Alvarez was starting to get into a rhythm. Can't have that. Bench his ass and get Maldonado back out to take another in a long line of heaving, steaming dumps squarely in the middle of the field.

How does the Mets paying impact luxury tax?

More concerned about that than the cash flow to Crane and his partners.

As it was explained to me today, for luxury tax purposes, any money the Mets send the Astros to pay down Verlander contract is treated identically to having that money on their payroll. So if they’re sending $54M to HOU as reported, those are taxable payroll dollars for the Mets.

Counts against the Mets and not against us.

Dusty was facing pressure to put Yordan back in the 3 hole so he cleverly avoided it by giving him a day off.

Nightengale saying Mets are sending $54M, that's a lot and makes this a fair deal.

Holy shit that's a lot.

If we get a 3rd WS ring out of it defiantly a fair trade to me...heck could even get a 4th.

That’s my point; Houston has not made very many trades like this.  In fact I can’t think of a time they traded away one of their 5-10 best prospects for a replacement level player on a free agent level salary.

If this is the only move they make like this it’s probably no big deal.  I just don’t want to see 2-3 more moves where they give up significant prospect capital for players with almost no actual surplus value because the shit adds up.

I think he will be a quality MLB player, but if we win another World Series in the next couple seasons then who cares.

JV apparently will just meet us in NY and join us for the Yankee series.

Man I hope he can find a hotel room with such late notice. Busy time of year in NYC.

I knew the usual suspects would be bemoaning their prospect losses on this deal. This is the window. It may extend forever, like the Cardinals, or it may fade over the next few years. Still, no time like the present, motherfuckers, it is time to get to gettin'.

I become a septuagenarian in a month.  The clock is ticking.  We need to win now.

Yea but if we win a total of 4 then Gilbert wins 1 it means we lost the trade!

Either way, he will still be a douche.  I'm glad I don't have to grit my teeth and root for him.

Bob with the money:

The New York #Mets are sending the #Astros about $54 million in the Justin Verlander trade, one executive said, if Verlander's $35 million option in 2025 becomes vested.Verlander is owed about $93 million, meaning the #Astros would pay Verlander about $29 million for 2 1/3 years

$93M - $54M = $39M, not $29M.

Apparently I'm missing something here. What is it?

Some of you act like we’ve gone to 4 WS in 6 years and lost all of them. JFC. Enjoy the ride man. We’re on a historic run that most to all other franchises will never dream of going on. 4 WS in 6 years and 2 titles and right in the thick of it again and some are bitching about fucking prospects that might never pan out or maybe they will? Who gives a fuck right now.

re: extending tuck, this move sends the message that says (1) we will still have cash and (2) we are serious about winning every single year.

would have to think that matters to tucker, but i guess he doesn’t know anything else.

I think the only thing that will matter to Tucker is the amount of guaranteed money and I don’t blame him for that.

All money the Mets send reduces what’s against our cap. So it counts like 15M in 24 and 25.

who was the last player we gave up in a trade that hurt that much? Hader, yeah, maybe Laureano and Teoscar? But our organization has done an exceptional job at protecting its best assets and flipping well-regarded prospects for ML players.

Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is thrilled that Verlander is coming back. He said he texted him and said “Let’s go!”

let’s go.

#16934

1.  We win the World Series 100% of the time when we trade for Verlander

2.  Yes, I also feel a twinge of regret every time I have to watch Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron, and Jake Rogers appear in the All Star game wearing that Tigers uniform.

Lmao thats like HOF level shit. Gtfo

He is probably gonna be like Harrison Bader or some shit

I didn't want to originally trade him in this deal for JV but after hearing the full deal I am ok with it.

Saw a comparison today of Brett Gardner that was meant to be a compliment towards Gilbert.  How will we manage?!

Careful. There are multiple prospect goobers on this thread that are about to sprint over to your post and remind you that Jake Rogers is having an almost above replacement value season in his 28th year for the Detroit Tigers. Regret is all we know, sir.

Justin Verlander sent Maldy a text that said “Let’s F***ing go”That is how Maldy says he found out.

#16942

Here’s the details on the money including the vesting year.

The Mets are paying $35M on Verlander for this year and next year, then half of the $35M in 2025 if the option triggers. #Astros

#16944
Everyone’s gonna piss and moan for Astros praise, but (cheating aside) they are everything you should want your organization to be. They draft and develop stars, pay their stars to stay, sign free agent stars, trade for stars and go for it when they’ve got a shot to win it all.

he's locked up thru 2025 (i think).  if we get to the point where he's hearing offers from multiple teams, we've already fucked this up.
