The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to announce the completion of a deal for a new stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Tuesday, according to a report by the Tampa Bay Times.

The construction of the 30,000-seat domed stadium, which is set to open in 2028 and is estimated to cost over $1.2 billion, figures to end speculation about the Rays relocating to another city.

The Rays' current 30-year lease at the domed Tropicana Field ends in 2027, and the franchise had considered moving elsewhere, such as neighboring Tampa, amid consistently low attendance.

Rays owner Stuart Sternberg told the Tampa Bay Times earlier this month that the organization expected to "pay for half or more" of the cost for the stadium. The remainder of the cost will be contributed by the city of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County.

The new stadium will be part of a massive redevelopment of St. Petersburg's 86-acre Gas Plant District -- a project that also includes affordable housing, office space and retail in what was once a thriving Black neighborhood.

Apparently St Pete is growing much faster than Tampa and the downtown area has already surpassed Tampa’s in terms of nightlife, business and tourism.

Is there a stat for worst eye test in first 20 games at 2B?

Ha, he actually grades pretty well on B-R. Guess I've just seen the lowlights.

So I see 3 players that actually turned out to be any good at all. Great metric there.

Weren't you just touting Max Clark's minor league OPS after 4 games just last month?

BTW, Wyatt Langford is now in AAA and Max Clark is slugging .180 in A ball.

Crews is stuck in AA with a 595 OPS.

The new 30,000-seat stadium, that has the ability to accommodate up to 35,000 for other events, will open in 2028.
According to Major League Baseball, the new stadium will have three seating levels, a fixed roof, an artificial turf field, operable walls and a pavilion design.

the rendering forgot to include the tarp/curtain over that top level

So it's moderately less ugly than the current one?

Seriously.

my favorite part is how they had to stitch together pictures from all 81 home games to get one shot of a full stadium

Probably designed by elderly New York snowbirds.

Thought I saw on Twitter/X recently of the Royals looking to build a new place.

Now that the A’s and Rays are on record with getting new parks, who is the next team?

Angels if Artie ever sells?

A’s aren’t getting a new park. They’re stuck in that colesium for a long ass time

Ah, indeed

Kaufman is great, but yeah didn’t realize it’s already been 13 years since the last renovation and by the time any new stadium will come to fruition it’ll be ~20.

Was thinking about how Royce Lewis would be the AL RoY favorite if he'd been healthier, and started wondering how many times the 1-1 pick has needed 6 years to establish, and HOLY SHIT, LOOK HOW AWFUL THE 2017 DRAFT WAS:

This dude is now 0-24 in his last 6+ games.  OPS down to 1.052.

The Tampa Bay Rays are calling up top infield prospect Junior Caminero, bolstering their roster for a stretch run that will cap one of the best seasons in franchise history, sources told ESPN.

Caminero, who turned 20 in July, will make the jump from Double-A, where he ascended after 36 dominant games this season at High-A. Between the stops, Caminero is hitting .324/.384/.591 with 31 home runs and 94 RBIs in 117 games.

A shortstop and third baseman, Caminero joins a Rays team that at 94-60 is 1½ games behind Baltimore for the American League East lead. The No. 5 prospect in Kiley McDaniel's midseason rankings, Caminero is regarded for not just his offensive production but the elite exit velocities he has produced since the fortuitous November 2021 trade in which Tampa Bay acquired him from Cleveland for right-hander Tobias Myers.

Even though he was not in the big leagues by Sept. 1, Caminero will be eligible to join the Rays' postseason roster because he was already in the organization.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 157 pounds, Caminero is closer to 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, a physical specimen who joins a Rays lineup whose 809 runs scored are the fourth-most in the major leagues this season. The Rays' scoring has lagged in the second half, where they rank 13th in MLB, and in September, where they're 16th.

Bolded is funny.

HOU, TEX, SEA, and TOR all at 68 losses.  HOU and TOR have played one more game.  Should be fun.

They gave Pete Rose a Caesar’s Players Club Card.

Angels turned a pretty snazzy 6-4-3 against the Twins.  I would post a link, but Elon’s shit is so fucked up I can’t find it.

Come on man its the same as always lol

Kersh can still bring it. Dodgers baby. Dodgers.

Reds with an epic choke job today.  They led the Pirates 8-0 after 2 and 9-1 going into the 6th.  Pirates win it 13-12 for the biggest comeback in franchise history (140+ years).
