Whew.  Glad Rudy was able to clear it up for everyone.

What happens to his voice and face?  Is this the RFK Jr path to success?

Alina Habba gonna be the next AG?

This trial turned out just how Trump wanted.  He wanted to lose, bigly.  Alina did exactly what she was supposed to.

You can’t destroy the rule of law, which you’ve told your acolytes is sad and unfair, if you win trials.  You have to lose. Then you lose and it’s proof it was unfair, these judges and the jury and the deep state but you’ll fix it! After you’re president you’ll just declare everything you do or did legal and you had to, because the courts are so unfair.

I am not kidding. Americans are like dodo birds, we are entirely unprepared to recognize what’s in front of us. We can’t conceive of a would be dictator losing his cases on purpose just to prove to everyone that it’s all unfair and we shouldn’t have laws apply to him. But that’s what’s happening. Winning court cases are for chumps, winning elections and never leaving means you never have to win a court case.

I just like how there are like nine different conversations happening in this thread at once.

His followers don't need proof of anything other than him proclaiming it to be true.  If he were to win the upcoming election, he'll do his best to give himself a lifetime get out of jail card irrespective of however many civil/criminal trials he's involved in and whether or not he's found guilty.

He's not playing 4D chess.  He hires people who do/say what he wants.  It just doesn't work as well when he can't pay the judge and jury as well.

Two different states (Florida and Texas).

Super proud of this: one of my younger daughter’s roommates works for the law firm that represented E Jean Carroll and worked on both trials! The hours she and the team into it were insane. She’s starting law school in the fall.

Do you have a gin preference?

I’m not a gin drinker but I suppose Tanqueray is the standard. I tried Esme gin and noticed a not insignificant flavor difference. Also, Tanqueray has 7% more ABV than Esme.

Not really. Aviation is good and I’ve also used Bombay and beefeater. It’s not worth using expensive stuff like Hendricks IMO.

For a Negroni I wouldn't use Tanqueray. I'm sure DDD will chime in with his picks, but ive always found Gunpowder Gin and Anitca the best combination. Something like Junipero or Aviation could be good as well. The London dry gins are a little too bland for a Negroni in my experience

So I stayed away from gin altogether for about 30 years after bad experiences at Debutant balls involving Tanqueray.

recently came to the conclusion that my issue wasn’t gin but tonic (and of course too much gin).

LIVE: Scene of the jury, leaving after the E Jean Carroll verdict. Defendant Trump had walked out during closing argument, and none of them looked at the well-done steak supporting Trump sitting in the row behind Trump’s counsel as they left the building.

Lol. My take away from debutante balls is vodka is the go to martini. Also, God bless the taxi industry.

Losing $83m before even getting started is impressive.

Odds of her actually collecting any of that $83m are about zero though, right?

If he appeals, he has to put the cash in escrow, or post a bond.

So yeah, unless he prevails on appeal, she will collect.

What about NYS running his businesses once his licenses are forfeited. I would imagine the monitor / trustee would have an obligation to pay the judgment.

I’m not familiar with NY law but most states do not require a bond or deposit  to appeal. That just prevents post judgment collection efforts on appeal.

If the judgment is against him personally then a receiver wouldn’t have authority to use company assets to pay the judgment (unless I guess if Trump were the sole owner of that company).

No cents from Trump, just a few scents.

He's already posted a $5M bond for the appeal in this case.

Let's be clear, the bond is not required to appeal, but it stays execution of the judgment during appeal. If no bond, Carroll can attempt to execute the judgment.

Not this case, the other one. They're independent judgments.

Just when I think I have it figured out.  I thought they were independent awards with one liability judgment, which sounds messed up to begin with.  But I've never underestimated how screwed up procedurally a civil case can get the longer it goes on.  Live and learn.

I’ll go on record as promising to eat my shorts if she ever gets anything close to that $83M

Yeah and since none of his “wealth” is actually his I doubt it matters if he posts the bond. There will be so many gymnastics to avoid collection it really won’t matter in the long run. If he can post with Saudi money or whatnot it just save some attorneys fees that he’ll never pay from racking up.

Can she collect from his estate when the best day in the history of the world happens soon?

This could be great. I imagine the bankruptcy trustee does have an obligation to Rudy’s  creditors to pursue any potentially collectible assets of the bankruptcy estate, which in this case would include legal fees owed Rudy.

It would be a lovely thing if the trustee hires attorneys to sue Trump for Rudy’s attorneys fees - so that Ruby and Shaye get something.

Yeah, I'd guess most of it is tied up in entities, like LLCs.  Supposedly, he has a real quagmire of them, partly or mostly to avoid this.**

But, as someone pointed out earlier, potential liquidation of his New York entities may put a bunch of cash in his personal name and ripe for collection by those whom he owes in his personal capacity.

** Probably worth noting that anyone that creates a legal entity contemplates separating their personal and business affairs, including liabilities.  Usually, that's intended to keep entity liabilities "off the personal books," but in Trump's case, it will have the opposite effect of making him personally potentially judgment proof.
