I have a medium-sized 1-year-old puppy in good health. He was however bit by another dog randomly last week and I ended up with a $1,500 vet bill for stitches. I looked at getting pet insurance a year ago but decided against it as he was young and healthy. Dumb move. Anyhow, I want to get insurance for the future and there are dozens of companies and I don't know the quality of one versus another. Any recommendations are appreciated.

All insurance companies, especially pet insurance companies, pay out claims like slot machines.  Just pick one.  They are behind you 100%.

Actually they all suck.  Pick one and be prepared to knife-fight for everything

Manypets.com has been really good. As long as you

place the itemized invoice, they have paid everything out for me.

Not worth it.

If the other dog has an owner, they should be paying that bill.

Also, there are plenty of old school vets who won't charge that for stitches. Look for one whose clinic hasn't been updated since the 70s. If their clinic looks like a fancy day spa, avoid it.

Make sure your policy included a robust K&R piece.  Wish I knew that when I got my cat (RIP).
