Anyone using a "public" or free USB port gets what they deserve. Carry a battery or your own cables you fucking savages

Edited by next2naus

Is criminal an offensive word today? Is that why they keep using the term bad actors? Cause I really don’t see Lindsay Lohan as being up to these shenanigans.

Is this news? My company has had these warnings in cybersecurity training for the last 5 years

There's no storage in a USB cable - only what it is hooked up to - I guess the USB cables these criminals are using are specially made with memory. I assume the cable USB plug would be a little larger than normal.

Or just buy a case with the battery pack built in. They will last all day.

It's the USB ports that are sending and receiving malware/data, not the cables.

Gotcha - I guess criminals go to the airport and open up the USB port boxes. Obviously, airports should just provide electrical boxes and have people use their own voltage regulators.

They sell USB data blockers. They cut the M+/M- lines from the USB ports and then re-level them so they work with Android and iPhones.

Yeah, this has been a known issue for years.  No idea why it is popping up again.

I was expecting a thread on HGH-laced smoothies.

Anyone know where to get those?

That's less awful that what I assumed was happening here.

Juice Newton stroking you off?

USB C cables do have microchips in them to allow feature negotiation, so I assume one could be built to inject malware, and probably without making it any larger than existing cables

I am just very, very glad this post is not in a, umm, different forum.

You read Suttree recently?

I've also been advised not to click on links from suspect looking emails.

Also, when using unfamiliar ATMs, do not insert your card in much larger than average ATM card reader openings bearing Cyrillic letters
