Secondly, I also picked the wrong movie to take my (eventual) college sweetheart (also from Kingwood) to on our first date - Schindler's List. She cried for 5 straight hours. Well done Knox.
April 17, 20232 yr I read the plot of A Serbian Film online when it was brought up in a conversation like this and felt awful for days and wish I hadn’t. I am not sure I could be friends with someone that actually watched it.
April 17, 20232 yr I'll offer up The Devil's Rejects. My late-night movie list has some new potential.

April 18, 20232 yr I downloaded the book this is based on before I saw the movie. Was so fucked up I almost put it down and then found out it was based on a true story.“Why The Girl Next Door's True Story Makes The Movie Harder To Watch”https://screenrant.com/girl-next-door-movie-true-story-harder-watch/
April 18, 20232 yr I don't watch a lot of movies so I'm sure there's a lot worse out there, but I always thought American Beauty was super fucked up.

April 18, 20232 yr The one that comes to mind is The Perfection. Here's the trailer but it's really best to go in knowing as little as possible.
April 18, 20232 yr The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. Mulholland Drive Tampopo I’d say a John Waters movie, but I don’t care for any of them. Trainspotting is my favorite of fucked up films.

April 18, 20232 yr I’m not gonna claim it’s a “favorite” but for those mentioning A Serbian Film (which is extremely fucked up), 1975’s Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom says helllooooo

Since I was the only one I knew who had a jailbroken phone with popcorn time way back in the early days of streaming I was requested to host said activity. Of course there's the shock value but it's poorly made and cheesily done. It feels about as real as the Evil Dead movies. Just another poorly made exploitation film, and the thing I found most disturbing is the director/writer said it's an allegory to the state of Serbian cinema and the fact Serbian media is funded by the EU to push projects that depict Serbian remorse over the Yugoslavian war. Well yeah you tone deaf cunt, your people attempted to commit genocide against your neighbors. You're lucky you didn't get split up like Germany and made to suffer far worse than the EU wanting you to feel shame. You should have been gutted and dragged into extreme poverty.

April 19, 20232 yr I don’t recommend it, but Girl Next on Prime is the most fucked up movie I’ve ever watched.

April 19, 20232 yr This is going to be somewhat tonally in keeping with @blacklab's Sweet Hereafter pick, but I'll nominate Never Let Me Go. I don't know that I would call it "fucked up", but I also don't know that I wouldn't--it's definitely haunting and I never want to re-watch it despite it being 100% violence and gore free. Partly I don't need to re-watch it because too much of it seems stuck in my head. What might make it fucked up would be to spoil the film but it's an Alex Garland screenplay adapting from a Kazuo Ishiguro story (so somewhat science fiction meets British dystopia) and Andrew Garfield's performance was the best thing I saw in 2010.

April 19, 20232 yr Blue Velvet is probably my favorite fucked up movie - well done and enjoyable. Requiem for a Dream is also fucked up and well done, but more disturbing than enjoyable.

Saw that a year or so ago. Yep, much like Sweet Hereafter and Wind River, starts off depressing and every time you think well that's it, it can't be any more depressing, then they take it another notch.

Okay then I nominate Joaquin Phoenix's adaption of Joker. Left me feeling pretty horrible as we watched a dissent into mental illness and the making of a mad man, but it was good. Just didn't really want to ever watch it again.

April 20, 20232 yr Zardoz with Sean Connery is one of the most pretentious, trippy and generally ridiculous movies I’ve ever seen. It’s not fucked up in the disturbing sense like most entries here, but it is definitely fucked up in the sense of constantly asking yourself, “What the fuck was that?” It’s kind of my ultimate Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie, because instead of the usual low budget b movie it was actually supposed to be a big deal.I think it has a great trailer though. Hard to believe Boorman followed up Deliverance with it (though he then went on to do The Exorcist II so maybe Deliverance was the outlier?)
