Change strategies you say? Well it looks like the Hanks are in agreement: Mayor Pete must be assassinated.

Being dismissive and making fun of Pete on Twitter for the last 8 months has really paid off for his detractors. I'd recommend they change strategies if they want him gone.

One thing I worry about with Pete from an electoral perspective is that there are people who voted for Trump in 2016, who are disillusioned with him now and are looking for a reason to vote for someone else, and who will nevertheless vote for Trump again if Pete is the nominee simply because Pete is openly gay. I'm thinking mainly of boomers who are incredibly homophobic.

strike him down and he'll become more powerful that you can possibly imagine.

can we count on these close-minded, homophobic morons to vote for bernie?

these people sound like a lost cause.

(he's not going to be the nominee, so it's hardly worth the discussion)

You mean, will Bernie's base vote for bernie?

I'm thinking more like old people like boomer parents who have come to dislike Trump but might vote for him again simply because they don't want a gay fella being president.

I'm not saying that will happen, it's just something that crosses my mind when I hear people like my parents talk about Pete being gay.

decent gag, but you further confused dennison.

No, I get it. But I just wanted to discuss something I see as serious because I think some folks won't vote for Pete simply because he's gay. I think those folks would vote for Bernie Sanders because he's not Trump.

I don't think it's an electorally-significant chunk of folks and certainly not a bias we should shy away from or avoid in any way.

This is exactly like "We'll NEVER convince some people to vote for a black guy! His name's 'Hussein!'"

It won't take much convincing.

it'll be harder to convince you 😁

I was just vacationing in Utah this week and was reminded that Salt Lake City elected a lesbian mayor.  Pete is from a mostly conservative Republican state.  We're seeing more and more examples of this happening in traditionally conservative places.  Sexual orientation versus race, for example, seems to not necessarily follow the rules when it comes to assumed outward stance versus underlying sentiment.  There are probably a whole lot of people who can vote privately in support of a gay person they understand but otherwise can't muster the nerve publicly put it into words.  It seems different when it comes to race.  If your public face is one of racial bias, less likely you secretly vote for someone not your skin color.

it'll be harder to convince you [emoji16]
All Pete's gotta do to convince me is get the most delegates. I'm easy like Sunday morning.

FIFY. Same circular argument can be modded and applied for all candidates. Weak.

I don't see Pete's sexual orientation as any problem whatsoever in the Nomination process. There will be exceptions, of course, but not of any significance. With Trump,  he will go reptilian brain and vomit slurs. But those who listen are not gettable voters.

Pete's problem is his billionaires and how they moved him quickly from a progressive mindset to a billionaire lackey. It is not pretty. Remember DeVos' statement -the billionaires expect a return on their investment.

Sirota playing dirty pool?  In that tweet, David Sirota appears to be misrepresenting the contents of that Politico article.  Pete isn't "attacking MFA", he's talking about a different path with an eye on the same universal health care endpoint.  Warren has also acknowledged the difficult realities around implementation, though how bluntly she has advertised that has varied.

Bernie varies in how he relates his vision, but is at his worst when he stumbles in explaining costs and realistic implementation:

Please, please, please  let there be a camera rolling when you unveil this perspective to people your convincing how to vote in the D primaries.

Boomers are not the demographic he should be worrying about. There is a core democratic demographic he should be worried about.

I don't talk to anyone offline about how they vote in primaries or otherwise.

You get partial credit for understanding the Mueller report.

Russian election interference was designed to help Sanders in 2016.  And yes, they've picked up again where they left off.

Carville and Rahm Emanuel are about the only two left on the scene that really understand electoral politics.

Yang, "I don't think socialism foresaw technology."

THAT WAS THE ENTIRE GOD DAMNED POINT OF MARXISM HOLY SHIT

[edit]

This is all part of a section where George Stephonapolous asked, "Who here thinks Bernie being a socialist is bad" and he is literally just running down the list to give them a chance to hit Bernie.

lol Jesus Christ

Edited by bad_teammate

We are still in the "hey y'all got anything negative about Bernie y'all wanna say?" part of the debate. And I am not exaggerating, go look at the transcript when this is over.

Great statement by Bernie

Great response by Pete

then Old Man Biden stumbles around for a while unable to form a coherent thought

OK we finally have a question that isn't literally asking candidates to shit on Bernie lol

[edit]

What does Pete mean when he talks about these new politics? How are they different from "the politics of the past"?

Edited by bad_teammate

Joe just talking fast as he can, but saying little which is coherent.
