Some highlights from the announcement speech...

Let’s be clear: I won't take a dime of PAC money in this campaign. I won't take a single check from a federal lobbyist, or billionaires who want to run a Super PAC on my behalf.

And I challenge every other candidate who asks for your vote in this primary to do the same.

We need to #EndCorruptionNow in Washington. Let’s

Close the revolving door between Wall Street and Washington

End lobbying as we know it

Ban foreign governments from hiring lobbyists in Washington

Fix the Swiss cheese definition of “lobbyist"

I believe real democracy requires equal justice under law.

It’s not equal justice when African Americans are more likely than whites to be arrested, more likely to be charged, more likely to be convicted, and more likely to be sentenced.

No more.

More than 50 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. went to Montgomery and warned us about the danger of division. That playbook has been around forever. The rich and powerful use fear to divide us.

We’re done with that. Bigotry has no place in the Oval Office.

I believe real democracy requires equal justice under law.

America’s middle class has been deliberately hollowed out. The richest, most powerful people in America lobbied Washington and paid off politicians to tilt the system. And year by year, bit by bit, more of the wealth and opportunity went to the people at the very top.

Time to change the rules to put more economic power in the hands of the American people – workers and small businesses. We need to put power back in the hands of workers, and take on Wall Street so that the big banks can never again threaten the security of our economy.

Pete's rocking that Fred Couples haircut in that interview.

Can you imagine how bad the staffer responsible will get excoriated for this weather!  I kid, I kid.

Klobuchar's announcement in a snowstorm may be one of the most Minnesota things ever.

Caught Klobuchars speech in the car, curious how it looked. She has chops.

klobuchar speech notes

Klobuchar gonna start a new trend. We had one president die after getting sick during his inauguration speech. She's gonna kill herself at her announcement speech

good:
- lol @ pink "democratic socialism not neoliberal capitalism" sign held up in the crowd
- uh the Mississippi river is cool I guess?
- rebuilt iw-35 bridge... ok?
- lol her 90yo dad is there. she's killing him by making him stand in a blizzard
- her dad sounds cooler than her, Klobuchar's Dad 2020
- "my mom, a proud union member" - ok there we go now I'm listening
- pass a Constitutional Amendment to overturn Citizens United
- restore the Voting Rights Act
- automatically register voters when they turn 18
- Paul Wellstone reference
- immediately reinstate clean power rules and gas mileage standards
- rejoin Paris Accords on day 1
- digital privacy... attacks on big tech are good
- guarantee net neutrality
- all households connected to the internet, including rural (I guess she means broadband?)
- even the centrists hate big pharma
- universal background checks (guns)
- racism is bad

bad:
- ugh, Obama as an applause line
- "if you don't know the difference between hack and Slack it's time to pull off the digital highway" ... what?
- "bring down our debt"
- "bringing down the cost of prescription drugs" way to dream big lol
- "common sense gun legislation" what does that mean amy?

This one was a serious wtf

She'll drop out after that first 12-person roundtable debate on CNN.

Isn’t Slack some kind of app or instant messaging thingy?

(I hear the Pod Save America guys talking about it)

I guess she was saying if you don’t know how to work an iPhone (like that dumb Senator in that hearing), you probably shouldn’t be making laws on tech/internet privacy.

But some speechwriter got pithy with his hack/slack rhyme.

it's essentially chatrooms for work, with a bit more functionality.  kind of a cringey rhyme.

and goddammit, I knew I was going to be right on Trump

Huge field now but it’ll have consolidated by March Super Tuesday and be down to 4-5.

Let the silly/pandering season officially commence.

Did she talk about government surveillance?   Because looking into her voting history recently, she seemed to be literally the strongest supporter among the Dems of every bill to extend NSA's powers.

Someday we’ll figure out government and corporate surveillance are essentially the same thing.

They’re both bad FWIW.

Not really surprised given she’s a former prosecutor. Met her in DC year before last and she’s sharp and funny. Had me and a bunch of old white businessmen and women cackling away. Only saying that because she’s one on the Dem side that could pull the voters that Shultz is trying to.

Mayor Pete would absolutely crush Donald Trump in a debate.

People way younger than you don’t vote though, Pete. The boomers scared of “socialism” do (but ok with the socialism that benefits them like SS and Medicare).

This isn't as true as it once was, we need better turnout but for a midterm this is impressive,

We'll see. Trump in office the last 2 years has been a wake up call and the younger people are probably paying a lot more attention to US politics.

lol that's good

No need to "fall in love" with a candidate, though, just get in there and fight for the most progressive causes that are out there and the personalities that are bringing them forward. Even if you think Warren is too radical and what you want is something more right-wing, then you should support Warren pushing the overall window to the left so that the eventual compromise will actually be close to what you want.

Don't be a pundit, be a voter.

The only one here who is guaranteed to win  Midwestern white voters is Biden.

Amy, if you wanted to win me over....

GREAT JOB

Clever. Clearly she’s banking on a top 3 Iowa finish for her “midwestern” credentials. But Iowa is Feb 3 and there’s not another midwestern primary until March 10 (Michigan and Ohio).  There’s 13 states in the middle. Easy to fall behind after California/Texas on Super Tuesday.

Primary calendar favors the candidate who appeals to the AA in the south (SC and Super Tuesday)  and Nevada/California. Still think Harris is the “front runner” based on timing. Especially if she gets a top 3 showing in Iowa beforehand.

What a pointless campaign.

This is it right here.  Love this woman.
