"unfrosted" - pop tart origin story written & directed by jerry seinfeld

Featured Replies

I'm in, looks great, cast is funny as hell. Burr as JFK, fantastic. I also like how Jerry's hair looks like the bad haircut from the series, which of course just looks normal.

only took an extra year to iron out the kinks.

funny, i actually just noticed that my original post was on may 3rd and this comes out on may 3rd so it literally was a year.

another fun fact, on may 2nd, i'm seeing seinfeld, gaffigan, maniscalco, and bargatze at the hollywood bowl.

I thought Jerry was more of a cereal guy.

there's no trailer yet, but for those who haven't heard, seinfeld wrote and directed a film about the creation of the pop-tart, centering around the rivalry between post and kellogg's that took place in michigan in the 1960's.

it's a netflix film, but not sure if it will come out in theaters as well.  there doesn't seem to be a release date announced yet.

anyhow, i saw a screening of this last night.  it has a monster cast and it's everything you want/expect it to be.

I like to toast the ever living hell out of a couple of strawberry pop tarts and pile some Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream on top. No Blue Bell mind you because fuck aggy

What the hell did I just watch. That was terrible. But at least there were fifty thousand famous actors in it. That made it at least watchable.

I said the same thing on the Netflix thread and was told I just don't get the jokes because I'm not 75.

Mmmm, pan sausage with sauerkraut

i watched it last night and laughed my ass off.  i thought it was hilarious.  its ron burgundy/dumb and dumber kind of dumb, but as long as you arent expecting something highbrow you should be fine.  ironically, jerry seinfeld is the worst actor in the movie and probably the least funny.  i do agree with one of the posters above that commented about the target age demographic.  it definitely helps to be over 50 to get this era of american society.   last comment: hugh grant was almost academy award worthy.  great performance from him in this.

Saw it last night and loved it.  Completely absurd.  There's nothing ironic about the bolded.  That has always been the case, including the show.  That's kind of the point.  What a killer cast.

Yup, commented on the Netflix thread, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the critics are way overthinking things, as usual. I didn't get the feeling that you had to have lived through the 60's to understand the references, but maybe I'm the minority. Agree on Hugh Grant, he was really funny.

I liked it. It felt like a throwback to the old Airplane/Naked Gun movies. Maybe that's causing some of the hurr durr I guess you have to be old to get the jokes stuff.

Uh no. Not even in the same universe. Worst movie comparison I’ve ever seen in print.

Jerry Seinfeld is diving into a room full of gold like Scrooge McDuck and giving zero fucks what you think about this movie.

forgot about barzini's.  that was awesome.   the other thing i forgot about is how fantastic and well-casted the two dumpster-diving kids were.   they were hilarious.

Was it worth the journey from Milan to Minsk?

So do you think they got shrunk down or is it just a giant sack?

I don't know. I tried to go see it, but when I called Moviephone, I got the wrong start times.

For the record, "Why don't you just tell me what movie you want to see?" might be my favorite Seinfeld line ever. That and "I'm out!"

Those two and "The sea was angry that day my friends" monologue (that Jerry, Larry et al wrote overnight and Alexander memorized and nailed in about 20 minutes) are all top 5 moments.

I tried watching this movie and gave up after 40 minutes. It was like watching a Seinfeld fever dream.

When you have "Fuck You" money and someone wants to give you more.

When pop tarts first came out I was a mere squash. My breakfasts from mom became either pop tarts, instant breakfast, or some other convenience food.

Early pop tarts were shit. The pastry was hard and dry, the filling off tasting and sparse, and they weren’t frosted. Worse was fucking instant breakfast. That artificial chocolate flavor was putrid.

The show sucks as well

I got about a 1/3 of the way before bailing for some reason and forgetting I was watching it. Definition of a "forgetable" movie.

I wonder if it's not some avant garde, alt-next level satire, irony humor I don't get because I'm old.

No. It was just a bad movie.

Seinfeld is so selective with his film projects. This is more or less the first thing he's done since Bee Movie 17 years ago. That's what makes this so bewildering. Why this movie? Why...pop tarts? Why the weird "real product, fake backstory" premise that would have sucked as a 5 minute SNL sketch? This wasn't just bad. It was "study it in a lab to see how it all went wrong" level terrible.

The Bee movie was really creepy too, now that you mention it. The only thing I remember about the promo of that ws Seinfeld being a jerk to Larry King (who may have deserved it).
