I’m so sick of the Dems = identity politics line. Identity politics is the ONLY thing the GOP can run on because they have no actual popular policies. Dems are out there running on health care plans and shit, the GOP is just running the same fucking War On Christmas playbook ramped up to 11 so now it’s about look out white man your country is being overrun by messicans and mooslims and feminists and they want to tell you Santa isn’t white! Central Americans are invading and it’s an existential threat, Minnesota is under Sharia law, and illegals are voting to steal the elections!!! And it’s all nothing but a cover to take health care away and cut taxes for rich people, which nobody would vote for if they just said that.

Warren, who helped create the CPFB and the candidate with the most specific policy proposals for taking on the corporate culture in this country was probably the worst example you could have used, but you do you.

Anyone who uses the term “identity politics” exposes themselves.

It’s the new “playing the race card” and it’s a right wing dog whistle to shorthand “The Democrats pander to the gays and the blacks and the women and I don’t care for that”.

It's how we've gotten to the point where it's not uncommon to see someone claim, without a hint of irony, that white Christian males are the most discriminated-against group in America.

I’m not a US citizen, so I don’t get to vote. But if I were a US citizen, I would withhold my vote as protest. If you vote D or R, you are implicitly consenting to the farce that is the two-party political process in America.

Also, I’ve been reading your posts for a long time. You’re a smart guy. You don’t need to lower yourself to what you just posted above.

Not voting directly supports the status quo.

This is stupid.

Voting R or D directly supports the status quo. Think about it.

You may be right with your second paragraph. One should make a habit of self appraisal. Your first paragraph is absurd.

I would vote for a reform party above anything else. Right now, the two party system is the only thing checking a fascist Idiocracy.

Right now, we're in a conflict of status quo (admittedly shitty) versus evil. I'll worry about the old status quo after (if) we beat back evil.

Correct.  This is the problem with the anarchist's arguments against the "duopoly".  Right now, we no longer have a duopoly.  We are at a tipping point where we are bordering on a monopoly.  Therefore, it is vital that we at least restore the duopoly to regain stasis.  (Pseudo-pun intended.)

I can live with this as long as it involves the complete destruction of the GOP and replacement with a party that actually believes in some fiscal accountability and has a strong disposition towards civil liberties. I don't see any way that the GOP can survive as anything but a minor opposition party for the foreseeable with its current strategy. I think that they will get their ass handed to them in 2020, 2022, and 2024 and need to do a reboot around someone like Amash.  At least, that is a direction I would like to see.  OTOH, never underestimate the odds that the Democrats decide to leave the GOP an out, coupled with the complete depravity of our electorate at large.

I used to think that. Then I grew up.

Nah. The GOP base, coupled with “thoughtful both-siders,” will do all they can to undermine the Dems as any sort of effective opposition, ensuring continued GOP wins. Thus, not only will their efforts NOT result in the disintegration of the GOP, but they’ll actually ensure that the GOP continues to be rewarded for its insanity with the White House and senate. And thus the SCOTUS too.

But the both-siders will be real thinkers, who have maintained their detached, objective, academic perspective, so it’s all good. That’s what’s really important.

Republicans get outraged at tan suits, Dijon mustard and failure to more quickly release long form birth certificates.

Democrats get upset at bragging about pussy grabbing, paying off porn stars you fucked shortly after your sons birth to keep quiet, refusal to release tax returns, and tweets saying hey kids this investigation is “total bullshit.”

Both sides.

I don't think that what I or people with a similar political perspective do or say really matters to any of the outcomes to be honest, but I think that the democrats take the WH under pretty much any circumstances.  Senate will probably stay slim GOP, but I think that who ever is at the top of the ticket for the dems may drive that outcome. One of the smarter polling minds can probably highlight the differences between the Bernie block versus the Biden blocks and the resulting GOP blocks that might turn out on election day in key red states. Either way that will be close. Dems might have to wait another two years to pack the court.

It's obsessive-compulsive. They can't stop themselves. Like the Aggies with the Longhorns, they don't know who they are if they're not anti-Dem in the great cause to save America from the ebil libs.

It fills the place where a soul once lived.

this is very well stated, imo. there are several posters on this board who fit this characterization. it is beyond obvious that this is the most corrupt administration probably in the history of the republic, but whatabout dem libs?

While I don't doubt that shit heads might use the term in this way, I also don't think "identity politics" is particularly helpful or constructive in most all instances. It tends to focus on differences and division when (I think) we should be focusing on what brings us together, what makes us all part of society and how we share in it.

We all come from somewhere, we all have identity shaped by our experiences and environment. Cool. But how does focusing on that help us all progress towards common goals and a better society?

TBH, when people start the conversation focusing on their identify, outside of some specific, related circumstances, it generally turns me off.

We're at the point where sitting idly by and doing nothing isn't an answer anymore.  Even if you can't vote maybe you can do something to support a cause you believe in.  If you can't come up with that, then you really don't care.

Mitch goes away if the Democrats win the Senate.  It also ensures that Trump gets impeached or pushed from the White House if he loses and tries to pull some stunt about deserving two more years.

Mother fucker. I want to know what the official reconciliation is for breaking, "The Biden Rule."

No shit. They want election interference. There may be no collusion, but there is an absolute dereliction of duty and a blind eye/open door policy for hacking and interference. In the private sector, that would get you sued out of existence.

Republicans are the clerk at the convenience store who leaves the back door unlocked so their buddies can rob the store later that night.

Mitch McConnell Feeling Emasculated By Wife Who Makes More Illicit Money Than Him

Spoiler

g5slaynjkdcyuclnraj3.jpg

WASHINGTON—Admitting that the financial arrangement of their marriage made him uncomfortable, Senator Mitch McConnell revealed Monday that he often feels emasculated by his wife, U.S. secretary of transportation Elaine Chao, who makes more illicit money than him. “I don’t like saying it, but it makes me feel like less of a man to see how much more ethically compromised money my wife brings in,” said the Republican Senate majority leader, adding that despite his own efforts to leverage his congressional standing for ill-gotten gains from a variety of dark-money financiers, the vast majority of the couple’s wealth came from his wife’s work using her government positions to give favorable treatment to her family’s overseas firms. “I’m a traditional guy, so it’s just hard to stomach looking at our joint illicit finances and knowing she’s contributing way more dirty money than me. Plus, her family gives us a lot of cash, which is kind of embarrassing to be a grown adult man receiving financial help from your wife’s corrupt parents. It’s just hard being in a marriage where your wife is the primary payola winner.” McConnell also admitted that in his darkest moments, he feels emasculated by the thought that his wife has been way more successful at undermining the principles of democratic government in the United States than he has.
