Used to frequent the Home Depot on South 35 in the day. Apparently he and Patty liked to get their hands dirty and garden quite a bit.

I have never not clicked a link that said "Led Zeppelin." No matter how ridiculous.  "Former Led Zeppelin Roadie Remembers John Bonham's Favorite Cow" CLICK.

  • Pretty cool story regarding Jimmy Page I ran across on FB. A GUITAR CASE STORY After 47+ years, I can finally share the following story: In June, 1972 I went to see Led Zeppelin perform

BIL lives in Travis Heights and saw them frequently walking the neighborhood back in the day.  At the time, Austin was attractive to famous people, as residents would leave them alone.

Yeah, they lived together from, what, 2010 to 2014? It wasn't really news at the time that he'd get around here and there in south Austin. Not surprising given the amount of time Plant lived here. I remember Fernando (Maria's manager at the old Taco X) saying he had come in a time or two. Our IT guy saw him at HD (it may have been the Brodie location although the Woodward one makes more sense.). Used to pop in at the Continental. I never got a chance to see him, unfortunately. Guessing one or more on this board did.

Patty was part of one iteration of Band of Joy while they were dating. Plant later admitted that his drinking led to their separation.

2011. Five kids with a great story to tell.

So I'm not sure where else to put this, but there is a Dread Zeppelin documentary out.

All Surly posters, don't forget to yell "mule dick" before the movie starts.

A buddy took his daughter last night and said it was pretty good.  He said there are several never before seen live Zeppelin performances that they play in their entirety.  So it's probably worth the price of admission just for that.

Saw it last night. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone here, though it is not as my friend claimed.

As the title suggests, this is the origin story of LZ. It goes from the back stories of each member through the release of LZII.

It seems to be a vehicle for 1) letting the members tell their version of events (there are no outside interviews) and 2) getting some footage/audio out there that hadn’t had a good place to be released before.

However, to the deep Zep fans that populate this thread, it’s likely you will have seen/heard at least some of this before - probably right here in this thread. There wasn’t much in the way of audio I hadn’t heard before but there was a fair bit of video that was new to me.

All that said, go see it. Even if you’d seen it all before (and you haven’t), it would still be worth it to see and hear it on the big screen with great sound. That was the part that as most enjoyable for me. I’ve heard a lot of these songs countless times. But I’ve never heard them like THIS.

Anyone know when it's gonna hit the streams?

DAMN was that good and I don’t think my evaluation is driven purely by the edible hitting at the right time.

Really enjoyed the looks at some of their inspirations and the buildup to that first performance in Sweden. I was floored by how quickly their sound came together!

Best part is you can FEEL the music in that theatre, and it teleported me back 30 years to when I would listen to these albums in the dark on my Sony headphones.

BTW something pretty rare is happening during the game today that you all might enjoy, regardless of the associated content (which I personally felt was bad ass).

Let’s just say, if you hear the greatest rock band of all time start to play, make sure the women in your life are watching.

Yeah I liked the little promo the NFL did with Baba O'Reily in the background.

This was the best ad of the night in my book - shared some thoughts in the commercials thread. Just dawned on me that it's Zeppelin in the background.

Is this what you were hinting at @Party_Taco?

Indeed it is - Glad you enjoyed!

Petrilli is an awesome player. Saw this the other day, damn good shit.

I’m a big fan and I saw the documentary last night. Fantastic and fun. It brought back a lot of memories for me. Saw them in Dallas when I was 16 and paid $4 for the ticket( the going rate in the mid-70s:).

saw it last night, thought it was great but a bit long. they also chose a strange place to stop it. definitely a couple of new live videos i hadn't seen before and it was awesome to see (and hear) all of it in IMAX. think i enjoyed the reactions of that studio audience the most...they were not ready to have their dicks rocked off by communication breakdown. i knew page and jpj were studio musicians but i had no idea the number of well known recordings they're on.

it made sense where they stopped it.  they basically went stratospheric after that and it was all documented and has been well chronicled(even if not officially). it was apparent they just wanted to give us their stories of growing up, influences,  and the process of forming the band and creating the sound.

But to your point, I want to see Part 2 Being Led Zeppelin.

I saw it at Alamo and dude behind me was ordering right as the movie started, his reaction was "shit!".  I LOLed

Maybe this has been posted before -- I dunno.  First time I saw it was today, though, so . . .

Unfortunately, the video only captures part of the song and cuts off abruptly.

Don't know if this has already been posted, but I really love this video.  First half of the video shows the scene in and around the old Sam Houston Coliseum before the start of the show.  This is the bootlegiest of bootlegs, with crappy sound and blurry video, but gives a pretty good feel for what it was like in the early 70s  Too bad there's no smell-o-vision, or we'd all be getting contact highs.  I know the Coliseum was a relatively small, dingy venue, but I always enjoyed going to shows there.  It had a gritty vibe that can't be recreated at newer places.  This video makes me miss my youth.

That’s a great video. Rock shows have come a long way.

Plant accidently put on on of the groupies shirts before they left the hotel.

I'm always struck by how small the stages were relative to now. It's pretty jarring to see. I've been on a kick watching the Stones '72 shows from Ft. Worth lately (top 3 all time live show imo), and seeing how small everything is compared to now is wild.

Rock shows? Yes

Rock music? No

Crazy. That Houston concert was in August 1971. Led Zeppelin IV wasn't released until November.  First time anyone in the audience heard 'Stairway'.

This is awesome.

I wasn't around that far back but caught the tail end of it in the late 80s early 90s.

Old news, but the "natural-ness" of entertainment is gone. Certainly big acts/shows/etc but even not that big of acts and shows are all scripted, marketed, tweaked, inflated, glittered up and made as fake and phony as possible in order to render AN EXPERIENCE.

When the real experience of the thing is being there in a more raw state. Music. Speakers. Bands (or insert art form here). Less shit in the way to clutter it all up.

And now everyone holds up a phone anyway to "experience" it later anyway.

Get off my lawn so I can yell at the clouds, etc.

You make a good point but you can still catch that stuff in some smaller shows around

True.

Just seems harder to find in anything except those small shows.

And, as alluded to, I am older and less likely to really seek it out.

An expanded edition of Live at the Greek was released last month.

10 or so more Zeppelin tracks than the original had (plus the Black Crowes tracks and a few standards).

the documentary is now available on Amazon Prime for 6 bucks.  It's quite good.

I, for one, had no idea how much Jimmy played a Tele.
