After years of talking about it I finally went ahead and built a stage in my backyard to host live music performances.  I'm pretty fucking excited.

I'm currently using Side Door Access to book touring musicians to come play in my backyard.

Some of you have seen pictures of my barage in the garage beer drinking thread.  I kicked up to 11 and added the venue.  I spent a great deal of time thinking of a great name and came up with Backyard at the Barage.  I know, catchy, right?

In the pictures you'll see wires running up the back and over the top.  I have hops growing up them and will eventually have a living, green backdrop and ceiling.  In the fall I plan on harvesting them and brewing beer.

Anyway, I just wanted to come here so you bastards could shit on me and bring me back down to earth.

If anyone is in the Portland area drop me a line.  Would love to have a beer and listen to some music.

I put my immediate neighbors on the guest list.  Other folks from down the street are excited.  So far, so good.  We'll see after the first performance in June.

If you put some plexiglass walls up on that, it'd look exactly like a place where a serial killer keeps his victims for observation until it's time.

Any shows July 4th weekend?

Careful around it.

I’ve seen Adrian Belew perform In a more modest setting than that. Another name that came to mind was Dave Chapelle but you’d probably have to live in his neighborhood. Never hurts to ask, though.

You need to hire a band that sidelines as a landscape crew.

I hear enough Tejano from the neighbors.

First show is tomorrow night. The hops are coming along nicely. They've grown about 10'-12' in a month.

The concert was awesome. Mike's videos and recordings don't do his voice justice. I had about 30 people there - hope to bump it up to 50 for future shows so the musicians can make more money.

I printed posters and gave one to everyone (Fillmore style - just need to add apples) as they left.

Put one up on my Barage wall, too.b368302a666e8715f29a960476b8fc99.jpg24d34cb4f2141c38510a377debea9a74.jpg

I hosted Anna Katarina on August 12th. Very talented singer and musician. Beautiful inside and out. 9468040b5902e073cd03a79b8f2e9a28.jpg7de8574ef8d65fc618fe138380735d6a.jpg

Next is Branson Anderson on August 26th.  I'm really excited to see him perform.  I think he'll be very successful in the near future.

Missed this first time around.  That is pretty cool.

Gotta say that this crossed my mind when I saw the title.

That rug really ties the stage together.

Did she freak out a bit when she realized you were the only one there and had locked the gate behind her?

You ought to see some of the shit front yards the guy's neighbors are rolling with.  His stuff is in fine shape by comparison.

Eight. Would bang, but the Tele would need to stay in its case.

Lol. Looked up the address. Yep, it's just a dude's backyard. Hell yeah, that's awesome... as long as I'm not a neighbor.

The neighbors are all invited and most show up.  Kinda the point.

All fun and games until the new neighbor moves in and his stripper girlfriend has a monkey.

Last night I hosted Branson Anderson.  He was fantastic.  I think he'll go places and I feel really fortunate to catch him at the beginning of his journey.

Let me know when you're hosting Susanna Hoffs.

Nuge, are you in Portland, Oregon?

So I had the last show of the season Saturday night.  Ordinarily, the weather changes in Portland during mid-October from the fire season to the wet season.  Well, guess what?  It changed on Saturday.  We went from 75 and sunny to 50 and rainy just in time for the concert.  I put a waterproof shade sail on top of the stage and the patrons in the audience huddled under a pop-up shelter, umbrellas, and a big tree in the backyard.

I had 3 amazing artists play and just loved every minute of it.  Found out the headliner is the manager at several of my favorite venues in town.

Guess who's on the guest list of any show I want to go to.  It's me!  Hurray!

Ritchie Young

As an added bonus my ex-girlfriend jumped on stage to play with Ritchie - she's the violinist.

This was a passion project for me and was a great success.  I have a ton of artists reaching out to me to play on the stage.  I'm still trying to build an audience and am only averaging 20-30 people.  I'd like to get it up to 50 so the musicians can make some money.  With everything getting to be so expensive its driving the artists and musicians further out of town.  I'm just doing what I can to help.
