And of course, in the HEB thread, we discussed these amazing El Patio chips, which are the best store bought tortilla chips I've ever had:

Have you discovered Voodoo Pretzel Stix yet?

If you like the Voodoo flavoring, they are worth a try. They are very heavy on the seasoning with them. Honey Mustard ones were also good.

My wife was back home in Charlotte, Nawfkurrlyna and brought back a few sacks of this stuff.   I’m not a pretzel guy but these thing were quite good.

speaking of Julio's, just bought a big ass bag after not having any for a few years.

New bag design/material and it STILL fucking rips right down the middle under any amount of pressure.

Still great chips though.

I'm near the end of our first bag of El Patio tortilla chips.  Personally, I don't get the hype.  They need a little more salt for one thing.  For a basic white corn tortilla chip, the house chips from Randall's cost less than half as much and taste better to me:

yeah, el patio are incredible. way better than the HEB style chips (unless you like the superthins)

one of the new HEB wavy chip flavors is lemon pepper

heblelempeppotch.jpeg

had two bags now, the first ones were some of the best chip flavorings i've had in who knows how long. second ones are just ok, still good but not as awesome as the first batch

tastes like the salt and pepper version of the kettle chips with lemon. actually really good. highly recommend

Another new Doritos flavor. They’re really sweet and have a respectable little kick. They’re different. I’ll finish the bag but I probably won’t buy them again.

They actually are hot.

Also, I grabbed a bag of these the other day (kinda chip, kinda cracker):

Frank's isn't that hot, so I wasn't expecting much.  They actually have a real bite to them.  Which made me think they'd be freaking GENIUS to sprinkle onto a good tomato soup.  I am actually impressed.

I’ll try to remember this in about 6 months when it might be cool enough to eat soup.

Just a throw out question. I’m a type 2 diabetic. Any recommendations for some chips I can enjoy that won’t kill me?

Pork rinds. My former MIL is type 2 and her doctor said that’s a pretty safe snack.

Someone gave me a bag of taco flavored Quest protein chips. Gotta say, they tasted a lot like the old Doritos taco chips. Not half bad.

Agree. Chili lime is my favorite though.

Yet another new Doritos flavor. So now they’ve got ketchup flavor, mustard, pickle, and late night cheeseburger. I’m passing on all of them.

Chicharrones.

Not diabetic, but been around enough keto/Atkins people to think their solution would work for you. Better yet, dip them in fresh guac. As good as any chip, possibly better.

I’m open to trying anything to get my numbers on track. It is extremely difficult to manage.

I've tried a ton of different Chicharrones or pork rinds. Not a huge fun (I eat low carb). That being said, I do like these a lot:

I usually get the heb brand vinegar and salt, but the heb ones and yours above all contain maltodextrin for some reason which is very keto unfriendly.

I'd be interested in any pork rinds that are maltodextrin free.

What makes it un-keto friendly?

Buy fresh ones from a messican grocery.  And again, dip them in guac.  Chicharrones and guac is one of God's gifts from the heavens.

Maltodextrin has a glycemic index of over 100. It's probably ok if it's just a small amount though. I think you also have to watch out for maltitol since it has a glycemic index of about 65 and isn't counted in net carbs on nutritional labels.

I see that online but weirdly it’s not listed on the ingredients from my bag at home.

These are our go to for guacamole when eating low carb.

For plain eating these are the best I’ve found. If you can find them.

Southern brand has a hot honey one right now that’s pretty good too.

Half the calories and fat of potato chips. It’s all relative though when talking snack foods to begin with.
