If these temps don’t come down, the Sept 2 game with Rice at 2:30 is gonna see a lot if empty seats.   Wonder if they’d consider making it a night game?

50 DAYS  🤘

It’s been 197 days since the Alamo Bowl, so we’re pretty much 80% through the offseason. Always starts to feel real when the countdown hits 50.

I really liked Ty Allert, during my youth. IMO - he was awesome, prior to Britt Hager “hanging the moon!”

Hook’em!!!

Gib Dawson leading the team onto the field for the 1953 Cotton Bowl vs. Tennessee. In the first televised Cotton Bowl, he scored a second quarter touchdown on a 9 yard run in a 16-0 shutout. Those uniforms back then... we looked like Syracuse! lol
In 1951 he became the only Texas player ever to lead the Longhorns in five different offensive categories in the same season. He was twice all-conference and a 1984 inductee in the Longhorn Hall of Honor.

Linked below is the 1952 UT vs Arkansas game, starting at around 1:45. It's basically the Gib Dawson show. He ran all over Arkansas that day. 3 TDs in the first half alone. As Kern Tips, the Humble Oil narrator states, Gib Dawson was wearing #44 that day instead of his usual #47.

Speaking of Kern Tips....

Thanks for this. Brings back memories of watching the Humble replays with Kern Tips as a five year old that could not get enough football.

Interesting seeing all the things that distinguished the game back then. Flags that marked the goal lines, crepe paper on the goal posts, T-Formation, dive plays, quick pitches, fullback traps, no face masks and even a single wing.

Could have done without the aggy band though.

Now I will have to waste several hours watching more of these.

Love Rosie Day !!! 🤘

Today, Leaks hosts an annual charity golf tournament for children in East Austin, Texas. In 2003, he became the first recipient of the Living Legends Award presented by the Ministry of Challenge.
