Crews wanted $10 million reportedly and that is why some thought he would fall. No way they are going to be able to pay him and go over $1 million if that number is correct.

Edit: The Nats only have $11 million to spend total

Do I love Scott Boras all of a sudden?

    No surprise but it's official.

  • Super excited for this season. April 16 circled on the calendar. My son is a true freshman OF at UTRGV. Right now it's looking like he won't redshirt. He's the fourth or fifth OF on the squad.

Jesus we're loaded.    If we add one more good arm from the portal, I think we have a legitimate argument to be ranked #1 in the preseason polls.

Updating my numbers. They have $14,502,400 to spend so not crazy to think they get both done.

They've got $9.0m to spend on Crews and $2.14m to spend on Yoyo.  Slot for Sykora is $1.0m.  Anything over that will likely have to be a result of coming in under on the first two, as the later slot values just don't provide much wiggle room for serious savings.

But, staying in reality, there's no chance they make that pick unless there's already something in place.

OB said Witt turned down $2 million from the White Sox.

I think we are in the clear.

i doubt they have something in place, but they know what he wants to sign

You can definitely find savings with later picks. They just drafted a senior with their next pick. The rangers proved last year how much money you can find by drafting seniors.

As much as I hope I'm wrong, I'm guessing he's gone

great org / landing spot for him

The Nats wouldn't draft Sykora that high if they didn't think he was going to sign. He gone.

But this is still a major win so far for us. Sykora was always the least likely to make it to campus.

Bigger news for me is Pierce being the pitching coach, how's that going to work?

Pierce has always been heavily involved with pitching and looks like he wants it done his way. I don't think this is that surprising.

If anything it’s the best case scenario. Relinquishing base coaching duties would be the cherry on top

I laughed. I don't know why people would be upset over this either.

Pierce is one of the best pitching coaches in the country and the reality is I don't think he's going to let any assistant really be in charge of pitching. I was pretty amazed hearing LBJ talk about pitching a few times. It was pretty clear to me that Pierce was much more in charge of pitching than Woody.

Every fanbase thinks their third base coach sucks. Kinda funny to see.

OB said the White Sox and at least one other team are still pushing hard for Witt but he has stood firm so far.

I’m not one who thinks he is an awful third base coach. I just prefer my manager in the dugout worrying about every aspect of the game.

He’s serious with his BATNA of returning to Texas. Might as well hold firm at his asking price.

Man, I hope he and Gordon return.

Looking at their picks so far, the Astros will likely have some serious extra slot money.  Wonder if they have their eyes set on trying to get Tanner to come home.

In terms of signees, if all we lose is Sykora it's a huge win.

We all know about Gasparino and Borba but Hayden Morris is a stud too. In terms of actual development, Morris might be ahead of Sykora. He just can't throw it 100+.

Are we sure we want someone with that poor of decision making back? jk jk jk

I'd assume he turned that down because he is expecting something a little bigger from another team?

He’d turn it down because if he comes back and shows 80% of his old self he is probably making 2x that next year.

Can get more next year and MLB legacies can shoulder plenty of $ risk

Gordon drafted before LBJ is a pretty big surprise but not sure it means much dependent on who goes over/under slot.

A bit surprised LBJ hasn't been drafted yet but this is about the range where he would probably go.

Value pick

Teams don’t usually draft someone in the top 10 rounds unless they’re really sure they can reach a deal.  If they’re going to take a chance on a guy they’re not sure will sign, it’s usually on day 3 and most often in the last few round (18-20).  Any Horns drafted today are very very likely gone.

Damn Gordon going this high hurts bad. Completely unexpected. Assuming he’s signing for under slot too.

Didn't Gus coach 3rd?  Augie in the dugout?

Gasparino just tweeted he's making it to campus.

HUGE WIN

Big time

Now we know why Texas hasn't been active in the portal for a transfer OF.

Gasparino, Belyeu, and Cummings is strong.

Amazing. Felt like his dad being the head of HS scouting for the Dodgers precluded him from stepping foot on a college campus.

Gasparino?

Gasparino, Borba, and Morris would collectively be one of the biggest wins we've had in a long time from a signees perspective.
