So the wife this morning asked me when I think they will find this.  My response was never.  I then indicated that this would be like finding a tic tac in our garage that has been crushed, in the dark, while probing with some twine from our roof.

Scientists, is my basic premise apt?

Here is my question - which is found first: Submersible or MH370?
I mean there is a much more well defined search area for the Submersible, but after another week will there be any search effort? Can it stay pressurized, or will it eventually get crushed due to pressure at the bottome of the ocean? And on that note, why hasn't there been more debris ever found from MH370, there should be flotsam and jetsam from things that would float; or could it have been ditched in a relatively shallow area near an uninhabited atoll? To take this further, will Earhart's plane ever be found ?

Also - someone should tell @BamaATL that we have rules around here...

No. She never crashed. She was in the Witness Protection Program.

About 30-35 pieces of what is believed to be MH370 has been found over the years.

The ideal gas law ... is the equation of state of a hypothetical ideal gas. I know, ... no math.

PV=nRT,

where P, V & T, the variables, are the Pressure, Volume and Temperature respectively, and the "n" and "R" are constants, (PV=T);

So, if the volume is fixed, for any increase in pressure there will be a proportional increase in temperature.

Basically, if the pressure increases from atmospheric pressure (14.7 #/in2) to ~ 6,000 #/in2, there is a 400+ fold increase in pressure, which results in a proportional increase in temperature, the "heat of compression."

Spoiler. Don't read any more.

Eyeballing the pictures, the volume of air in the capsule would compress from the actual internal space to a volume a little bigger than a 5 gallon bucket. Envision a syringe the size of the capsule being instantaneously injected into a 5 gallon bucket, and in the process momentarily jumping to ~ 4,000  ° F (???), ...   or, don't.

So, in an instant, the air surrounding the humans and the gas within their bodies compressed to 1/400th of its volume.  And the temperature increased from whatever it was, lets say 73 for a placeholder, to 4,000.

Did the pressure increase crush them before the heat hit them, or did the heat boil them, before the crushing?

If I smash a bug with a red hot iron, does it feel the smash or the hot first?  I'm thinking the smash.

Also, another thought is that there was a large bubble of air and farts that rose to the surface somewhere shortly after this thing imploded.  Kinda like when that Russian pipeline exploded.  If we could go back and review satellite imagery and find that big fart bubble, we could use one of your math formulas, consider the rotation of the earth, and ocean currents, and pinpoint the location of the wreckage quickly.

Family Debriefing: Just know that they didnt die alone. They were found in the comforting embrace of their fellow mission specialists, huddling quite close together for warmth. And the ball gags were probably to regulate breathing or something. To be honest we're not sure how they set up that butterfly fuck swing.

So the scariest casualty for most nuke submariners was a steam line rupture casualty.  It brought me a lot of solace when I read the Naval Reactors study on it.  The pressure transient from the steam would either knock me unconscious or kill me first before I got cooked like a lobster.

So will the billionaires' estates reimburse whatever public funds are being wasted on this pointless search?

Those searchers just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and quit looking for handouts.

Nope.  Typically these search and rescue missions conducted by Navy and Coast guard are written off as training missions.

For want of a post-it note the spare battery was lost.
For want of a spare battery the game controller was lost.
For want of a game controller the sub was lost.
For want of a sub the first wife’s alimony was lost.
For want of the first wife’s alimony the spa’s income was lost.
And all for the want of a post-it note.

I think the rest of the world's billionaires have proven that they can keep the Rub N' Tug industry afloat...

There is a pressure release joke in there somewhere, but I'm not witty enough to Kraft one.

Heh, that’s kinda what I imagined this is all what it really is.

Game over (no pun intended...or maybe intended)

They’re dead.  Saddest part about this whole thing is they couldn’t get Elon’s dumb ass to climb in.

If I knew the outcome was likely death with little to no hope of rescue, turning into a debris field would have been my choice of ways to go.

Silver lining out of all of this came from one of my friends who quipped "Hey at least this shows the rest of us that rich people really aren't smarter than the rest of us"

If the thing collapsed that deep, there's no bodies to recover, right? Will they be presumed dead?

Maybe the air will trickle down there just like the wealth

Is the “debris field” floating on the surface or is it at the bottom of the ocean? Because if it’s at the bottom of the ocean, isn’t the site of the Titanic already a debris field? I haven’t heard anything more specific than that a debris field has been found in the search area. That doesn’t tell us much.

Pretty sure the Elon saga has shown that to be true.

"CAPCOM - GOLD
- Ah, yeah, Jim. Could you check your CO2 gauge for us?

JIM LOVELL - Yeah, Houston. We were just looking at that. Our CO2 measurement has jumped four notches in the last hour.

FRED HAISE - That can't be right. I went over those numbers three times.

CAPCOM - GOLD - Jim, that sounds about right. We were expecting that.

JIM LOVELL - Well, that's very comforting to know, Houston. What do we do about it?

CAPCOM - GOLD - Jim, we're working on a procedure down here for you... Do you copy?

FRED HAISE
- Oh, Christ.

JIM LOVELL - All right, Houston. We're standing by for those procedures.

FRED HAISE - Christ, I know why my numbers are wrong. I only figured it for two people.

JACK SWIGERT - Maybe I should just hold my breath."

Seems like I read that the 96 hours was for 4 people. There are 5 lucky winners today.

Debris field around the Titanic?  This is not news - that has been there for over a century.  We're looking for a new debris field.  Should look like a largely intact exterior metal frame, two round titanium endcaps, a pile of carbon fiber shards, and some ruptured piss bags.

"Hey, we found a debris field near this sunk boat that was about as big as a football field."

"Yeah, no shit.  That's kind of why these dumbasses went down there in the first place."

Pretty sure a guy with a billion dollars wouldn't get in a deathtrap carnival ride either, but now it seems like we're all learning new things as we go here.

Great, now I made the mistake of reading Daily Mail comments:

Lot of people just don't understand the ocean.

It's mean and will fuck you up fast.

Man, that 16 year old kid had to be hating the last hours of his life. Born into great wealth, likely about to go to the college of his choice where he would pull tail that a dork of his nature would never sniff if not for the 8 or 9 zeroes in the family account. And you know he was thinking what an awesome icebreaker he had with the girls. "Hey, have I shown you the pics on my phone from the Titanic wreckage?"

I hope before he died he killed Rush by stuffing the game controller down his throat.
