I know it's probably been said on here a bunch, but people in the military have more gun restrictions than civilians. It's mystifying that we continue to do this.

might as well go ahead and charge the dad with manslaughter or something.  who leaves a loaded (maybe even cocked) pistol on the nightstand at all times?  Are these people so fucking scared of a home invasion that they are inviting a much more likely tragedy into their house.  Not sure how a father would recover from knowing that his stupidity/negligence/fear murdered his wife and unborn kid.

Weird, the family didn't look like Ohio gun nuts...

I think that's the case.  I really didn't know for decades as a pro-2A/"responsible" gun owner that there are literally millions of people who either keep a loaded weapon out 'n about in the home in case of invasion/government intrusion.  Or who open carry during the day and just kinda leave it in the bowl next to the keys, phone charger, and wallet.  I used to think kids would just seek out the family weapon and knew the code or pry it open to impress their friends.  But nope, we lose thousands and thousands of people each year because of loaded weapons just left out because people are terrified of Domino's delivery drivers or have to pack heavy and drop the gun on the foyer table because it was a rough day working at the strip mall.  I really didn't appreciate how many millions just leave them out because of some fantasy firefight that has yet to go down.  And that explains the hundreds of thousands of dead children over the years.  Because "responsible" gun owners are in fact, not.  Only good news is maybe dad will take one for the team and eat a round.  Maybe the kid's aunts/uncles can do a better job with him, I bet so.

Enforce our current gun laws! Arrest that stoned cold killer!

We should enforce our laws. Additionally, I’ve always been a proponent of the safe storage of firearms.  Shitty situation, but could have so easily never have happened with the smallest modicum of responsibility (safe storage).

Are these really the people we should be mourning though.

It seems to be a problem when unintentional shootings outnumber the defensive use of guns, which is, you know, their intended purpose. There also seems to be a problem when the number of killed or injured children (0-11) and teens (12-17) has increased so dramatically in the last few years.

3 year old shoots 1 year old sister.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/1-year-girl-accidentally-shot-killed-3-year/story?id=101414579

A 1-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed Monday by her 3-year-old sibling, who had gained access to an unsecured handgun, authorities said.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said deputies responded to the shooting at a home in Fallbrook, California, on Monday morning.

The 1-year-old suffered a head injury in the shooting and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m. Monday, the department said. The child's name has not been released at this time "out of respect for the family and the fact she is a juvenile," the department said.

"Sheriff's Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances of the death," the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. "There are no outstanding suspects and there is no threat to the community."

Fuck.  If only this occurred in Texas we could all sue this 2yr old for providing an abortion. #Profit

That's what happens when you don't arm your 1 year old. Both kids needed to be armed to de-escalate the situation.

"Here baby, hold this gun until the police arrive. You don't want mommy going to jail."
