I came to a realization recently that it is incredibly stupid that I haven’t dressed these windows in some way prior to now. This is my office, I get a fair amount of toddler banging on the glass while I’m in [serious] meetings and also I just want to be more separated from the rest of the house when I’m focusing or trying to think (or fucking around).

I’m googling and finding some useful information but also not just a…. good primer on something that I bet I could pretty easily fuck up. Is it possible for me to go get some 1” blinds with a keeper on the bottom from Lowe’s/Home Depot and have success? Do I definitely need pro installation? Any caveats or recs from the Surly braintrust?

good suggestions - the gil solution looks like the right sort of thing although I don't think aluminum will get the wife seal of approval. trying to figure out if there is something similar that will look a bit more like the faux wood blinds we've got generally around

We put plantation shutters on several French Doors in a previous house. Very functional but may be more visual weight than you want.

Buy new doors with internal blinds with the levers facing the office side, hang on existing hinges.

no noise, easy to clean, less likely to be broken by little hands or happy dogs.
