Could be wrong, but it smells like a good story Mateer’s best competition was Boise, UW, and Tech. Damn near ran for 200 yards against Tech. Threw for over 300 yards with 2 TDs and a pick against Boise. Threw for 245 with 3 total TDs against UW. It’s early, but Mateer might be the best QB in the portal. Arbuckle is better than the falling knife Seth Littrell. To state the obvious, they hired Arbuckle to get Mateer.

December 3, 20241 yr On Tuesday, OU announced the hiring of former AT&T chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson as executive advisor to the president and AD to oversee the university's implementation of the oncoming $20 million House payments to athletes and all that entails. https://footballscoop.com/news/oklahoma-hires-former-at-t-ceo-to-help-oversee-football
December 3, 20241 yr I expect every major football program will look like that in a few years. I'm surprised it took them this long.

During his tenure as CEO, AT&T acquired DirecTV for $49 billion in July 2015 and Time Warner for $85 billion in June 2018. According to Drew FitzGerald of The Wall Street Journal, Stephenson has "transformed the phone company he inherited into one of the world's biggest entertainment companies."[8] However, AT&T also failed acquisition of T-Mobile. On July 1, 2020, Stephenson retired as CEO of AT&T. He was succeeded by then-COO John Stankey.[9] At the time Stephenson announced his departure, it was acknowledged that the acquisitions of DirectTV and Time Warner had by this point resulted in a massive debt burden of $200 billion for the company,[10] forcing the company to cut back on its capital investments.[11] and In December 2020, the Financial Times said Stephenson's "legacy has been stained by poor acquisitions".[12]

December 4, 20241 yr They hired Wazzu's OC to get Wazzu's QB. They then told the Wazzu OC he had to keep OU's entire remaining offensive staff in order to keep their 9th-in-the-SEC class together. To sign a 5* OT, they purposefully kneecapped the guy who is supposed to resurrect Sooner Magic. Things are great in Norman. Just wonderful.

There seem to finally being some talent evaluations going on there. It's amazing. In order to keep a subpar QB, they agreed to keep a subpar OC. I hope it works out for him like I hope it works out for everyone. He's just not capable of playing the position at even close to an elite level.
December 7, 20241 yr I enjoyed when that rj young guy refuted the other dude’s point by basically saying that Oklahoma has always been a terrible place and that until now they’ve had a successful program in spite of that.

December 12, 20241 yr 6 WR gone to the portal 21 total Mateer, the QB they hired an OC to entice, might not even come. He might stick with Wazzu. They're on fire and it's beautiful.

Surely he is getting better advice than that.
December 12, 20241 yr In two weeks, they play Navy. Now, a month ago, OU probably had a significantly better team than Navy. Now, they are down to Hawkins at QB, the receivers are injured or in the portal, and I have no idea on who is sitting out. Navy, like a typical service academy, actually wants to win the bowl game and will be at full strength. This will be fun Edited December 12, 20241 yr by statsman

Could we fundraise?

December 14, 20241 yr They better hope they get that WSU QB because they're going to face their old one next season.

His best offer in the portal is a 5-7 team whose coach is likely getting fired after next season. That says a lot. I'm guessing Miss State was an option as well, and that's not a good option either.
December 14, 20241 yr As has been discussed Arnold was not a five star and should not have already been starting at OU. With all that said, I watched him play a few times and he’s got something. With development he can probably be a reasonably good QB. It will be hilarious if he ends up performing better than whoever they get. That would be two QB’s in a row they lost who outperformed.

You really need two that can play some. You might sign Mateer, and if he gets hurt, you’re playing Hawkins again.
