I was too busy laughing at OU's misfortune to think of that. Would be amazing for Venables to hire Arbuckle/Mateer and then quit immediately.

That’s kind of my reasoning that he retires, it’s not working. Have some respect, take a pile of cash and walk away.

The carrousel of decent head-coaching candidates is slowing to a halt. Do they bring back Stoops for a bridge year? Hire another coordinator at a P5 team?

December 29, 2024Dec 29 From a SoonerScoop post from a regular fan, explaining why Zac Alley wants to part ways with OU. Probably not true, but worth posting anyways, for its literary qualities… Edited December 29, 2024Dec 29 by statsman

December 30, 2024Dec 30 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/oklahoma-sooners-unofficial-40/id1114209557?i=1000682173444 This is great. The podcasters are openly wishing Venables would resign, naming assistants they want gone…openly comparing Venables to Charlie Strong… It’s hilarious, because at this point in the season cycle, all the negativity does is turn up the heat on Venables, and make it harder to recruit and hire.
December 30, 2024Dec 30 On the above podcast, they describe Curtis Lofton’s job as OU GM- a player wants more money, so they go to him for help. Lofton then sits down and reviews the player’s aid, and the player’s expenses, and gives him advice on better budgeting.
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Just waiting for them to have a pancake dinner on a Friday night at the Norman FBC before Norman North takes on Ardmore and this thing will be complete.

January 3Jan 3 Things are not starting well this offseason in Okieville. They’re down big sad on their boards and it’s glorious watching the pumpers try to pump up FCS transfers and the new dipshit DC from Clemson. What they really aren’t handling well is the rise of Texas:

What they really aren’t handling well is the rise of Texas: Love it. Like many here, I took Strategy classes in MBA school. My big takeaway about Strategy? You ought to have one. Texas’ is straightforward- use the large SEC media money to make sure the football program is staffed as well and as fully as any program in the country. Leverage a large, successful alumni booster base and a location in a talent rich state (as flagship university) to have one of the nation’s most talented teams. OU, lacking some key attributes that Texas has, is fumbling for a strategy that might work. They keep trotting out variations of “get exceptional coaches that want to be in OK because of…tradition” or “hard nosed players that are just tougher and love the game”. You can tell how bad they are struggling by their boards’ repeated calls for salary caps. (The best is their cries “something has to be done e to fix this”, because, evidently, the world cannot tolerate a non-elite OU)

January 3Jan 3 Have they considered having the players sell Seitz fruit boxes or maybe doing a nice chicken spaghetti dinner fundraiser?
January 3Jan 3 Good, doesn't seem that long ago, people like okie and others could get by with providing 10k cash, car and small house for mom, and even a bullshit jobs for dad. Ou did this for decades and built their "win̈ing tradition " off of it. Every trophy that ou has was bought. So fuck them.
