October 29, 20232 yr 1. Pull for Texas to beat everyone, including in the B12 champ game. 2. Pull for Washington AND Oregon to lose to either USC or Oregon St. Theoretically Washington could also lose to Utah If this happens. We are in. Washington and Oregon don’t lose? Weird unlikely losses would have to ensue for us to get in.

It’s when people kiss their pants and hype up an opponent as unbeatable that we are better than objectively. Stanford back in the day was the first one, right? Stanford in 2000. And we promptly lost. Mack Brown had Jerry Scarborough send out a letter to his subscribers that week admonishing the fans for not being grateful for having Mack Brown. This was after a lot of disgruntlement in the stands, among reporters and online after a lackluster opener against North Texas or Rice. He gave a vague threat to leave after the season if people didn’t appreciate him. That letter came out after I’d written the mudhole and we were all like “ohhhhhhhh fuck!”. I’m like 19-9 for them and they’re usually only for big or scary matchups. But people fret that they’re a curse. So I can’t lose, really. But yeah, sentiments on here are getting laughable.
October 29, 20232 yr The Pac is getting ready to crumble as the CU and SC shine wear off. Washington sandwiched in a Oregon win in between close wins against Arizona, ASU, and Stanford. They'll lose before the title game. Oregon has SC and Oregon St left. They could get got before the title game. Don't worry about the pac if we win out.
October 29, 20232 yr I don’t think so. Fl St is in if they win, and I don’t see anyone beating them on their schedule. Pac 2 losses are probably the only other path, unless somehow Georgia farts against Bama. Doubt it. FSU is extremely vulnerable, see BC and Clemson games. Maybe Miami has something for them.

October 29, 20232 yr If we win out, we could easily get left out over a 1 loss Oregon, Washington (depending on who they lost to) or Alabama. 1 loss ACC/B1G champ probably wouldn't jump us if Alabama keeps winning. As much as I hate measuring "quality of loss", OU's glorious loss yesterday could come back to bite us. If we had ended beating an undefeated OU in the CCG, our 1 loss would look better and we'd have a win again a top ~5 OU right at CFP decision time (timing is everything). Now, if we win out and meet OU (or someone else) in CCG, we'll only have a single signature win - Alabama before they got their shit together (that will be the narrative/justification). And our OU loss will look worse. Texas would almost certainly be passed over by a 1 loss Alabama if they beat an undefeated GA in the CCG (again timing is everything). Lots of football to be played, just win and see what happens.

October 29, 20232 yr The B12 has made 5 playoffs and each time that team has had 1 loss. No 1 loss B12 title game winner has been left out of the playoff. The B12 even has a 1 loss non champion who made the playoffs. Here's what those 5 losses looked like: 2015 OU- lost to 5-7 Texas 2017 OU - lost to 7-5 Iowa State 2018 OU- lost to 9-4 Texas and got redemption in the title game 2019 OU- Lost to 8-4 K State 2022 TCU- lost to 9-4 K State in the big 12 title game. Only once has a P5 champion been left our after winning the title game and that was 2018 tOSU. They got left our because ND was undefeated and they for blown out by a 6-6 Purdue team. Winning out will take care of itself. 🤘

Bama got punked by some scrub team at home by 10, Ole Miss got punked by Bama by 2 scores, Mizz got beat by 2 scores by LSU. Our loss (which was stupid bad) was to our arch rival with under 20 seconds left on the clock.

But mostly I'm worried that we'll drop a game and make it all a pointless discussion. There are two discussions. One is worrying about the games in front of Texas. The other is regarding a CFP scenario in which Texas wins out. In the former, there are and will be threads for that. With that latter, the premise that multiple 1 loss teams will get in instead of a 1 loss Texas team that lost a rivalry game on a play with :15 on the clock, beat Alabama by 10 on the road and then won its conference, is so absurd that it defies the logic required to have a serious discussion about it.

Is it just because their loss looks a little less bad after the OU loss? Yep, there is no way Oregon jumps us today if OU wins against Kansas yesterday. And it's also a timing thing. Memories are short, recent games get much more credit than early season games. Our best win of the year (unless we make the playoffs) will be a week 2 win. Our best possible win going forward happens next week against a team barely in the top 25. Would have been nice to knock off OU in CCG when they were sitting in the top 5 (or whatever). At that point, you'd have 2 top 5 wins and no debate against other 1 loss champs. I'm not as convinced as others that a 12-1 Texas gets in over a 1 loss Oregon or Washington. Media has been propping PAC up all year and beating on Big12 (somewhat fairly). Everyone will forget how bad SEC was OOC by the time decisions are made.

I think it will be a dangerous game for them. Then they have Kentucky and Auburn (both away games). I wouldn't bet against Bama in any of these, but I think there is a decent chance they drop 1. As long as Texas keeps winning, it actually makes some of these other games more interesting.
