September 5, 20232 yr I find it interesting that two of the biggest "artists" to come out of the greater San Marcos - New Braunfels megopolis (Sixpence & Blue October) are annoyingly precious acts that make me want to stab my eardrums out with an icepick. Edited September 5, 20232 yr by jimmyjazz
September 5, 20232 yr God, I love Squeeze. I could live on that kind of pop (Squeeze, Split Enz + Crowded House, Matthew Sweet) for the rest of my life. 2 minutes ago, locodos said: This live version goes a little harder than the radio version... Drummer is kicking ass.
September 5, 20232 yr Split Enz were great. One of my best friends got called a f$* for listening to Matthew Sweet like 30 years ago by another guy we know, and to this day it's the first thing I think of whenever I hear Matthew Sweet and chuckle to myself. I actually like Sweet myself, just to be clear.
September 5, 20232 yr "Girlfriend" is a mainstay on my (mental) 10 Desert Island disc list. I absolutely love that album.

September 6, 20232 yr Some of Alanis' work doesn't really fit the thread, but I think this one qualifies. Was bumping it at a stoplight earlier.
September 9, 20232 yr I couldn't decide if this belonged in covers, or live performance, or girly pop. I decided on the latter. Two of the two most gifted young female singers doing justice to Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over". I've long been a fan of Miley, her low alto is amazing, although she pushes it too much. Ariana's pure tone and chameleon-like ability to sound like anybody is astonishing, as is her always-dead-on pitch. I wish she chose better material. Anyway, I dig this, as much for the song (which is brilliant in and of itself) as the performance. Did I mention Neil Finn's a friggin' genius? Edited September 9, 20232 yr by jimmyjazz

October 13, 20232 yr This chick flips my switch. YouTube artist who must have hired one hell of a video production and choreography crew... SIAP. (I'm getting old and can't remember shit) Edited October 13, 20232 yr by Cajun
April 19, 20241 yr 90% of what my daughter listens to is K-pop and she finally played me a song that I liked. (There have been other good songs that I've heard. But has anybody noticed that Blackpink the most popular girl K-Pop group has zero good songs)

April 25, 20241 yr This band is blowing up. I'm sad that I waited too long to buy tickets and now they're sold out up and down the East Coast. Waited because I would be the oldest person there, and expect a lot of teens and/or college kids. I coulda worn a mask and just silently enjoyed their jangly pop sounds. And they're trying to sound a little Cureish. Edited April 25, 20241 yr by Mdhorn

April 25, 20241 yr I really wish this project with her and Oberst had kept up the steam I thought it would. This is such a great song.

I would have liked to know what a collaboration with Ryan Adams would have been like. But at least we got Motion Sickness out of the breakup, so that's pretty good I guess.
May 17, 20241 yr Get on that Chappell Roan. Entire album is catchy. My all time girly pop song I crank is I “Think We’re Alone Now”. “See You Again” “Since You Been Gone”

July 14, 20241 yr While I like Madonna's music just fine, something about "Ray Of Light" appeals to me more than the rest of her catalog.
July 14, 20241 yr My daughters are into Chappell Roan right now and I'll be damned if that's not some really great pop music. Pink Pony Club, Hot To Go, and My Kink is Karma are all pretty good.
July 20, 20241 yr Yeah just came here for Pink Pony Club. Good Luck Babe has been sneaking into my playlists and I like it, but I just listened to Pink Pony Club like 7 times in a row. I’m going to have a dance party with my daughter tomorrow.

Espresso and Please, Please, please are great. Videos make them better.
July 20, 20241 yr Didn't see this posted (shame on you!) or it already was (shame on me) and worth the watch/listen
July 26, 20241 yr I don't know if any of Lady Gaga's music is considered great but I am not ashamed to admit that when I come across some of her music I stop and listen. I think my favorite is Edge Of Glory. I am not going back through the thread to see if it has been posted already. Apologies if it has.
July 27, 20241 yr Just listened to Charli xcx's new album BRAT for the first time the other day. Throwback pop dance floor music with nonstop energy, melody and a beat. Also interesting lyrics.
