there was a shaggy thread (or maybe hornfans) about a couple crossing The Congo in a landcruiser

it was fucking amazing.  My SIL has been to Africa several times and i was recounting what I remembered from the story.  Does anybody remember?  @blacklab were you the OP?  I seem to remember that, but I've had a seriously fucked up week and I'm not thinking real straight.

Without a doubt, every couple years I read it again.

I love reading this type of story. Seems like a hell of an adventure. Reminds me of Malaria Dreams, a travel book by Stuart Stevens I read in the early 90s. Similar storyline but their trip was through the CAR instead of the Congo.

PJ O'Rourke has a book called "all the trouble in the world" where he goes to a bunch of shitholes and tries to find people to get drunk with and have a good time. If you liked this story you'll like that book.

Advrider trip reports have quite a few epic rides where people cross entire continents.

I love stories like this but if I were Belgian, I would stay the fuck away from the Congo.

Yeah I started reading that last night. Crazy

I love adventure travel shows. This has become my favorite. I’ve been following her Patagonia to Alaska trip on YouTube. She has finished the trip and has a movie but I like to watch her individual episodes when on my rowing machine. 25 to 30 minutes usually.
It’s a solo trip on a small bore Honda dual purpose bike. She does all the video, edits and all post production and uploads after each ride. Even the mundane parts of border crossings and finding maintenance/repair parts for her bike and equipment are interesting and South and Central Americas are fascinating and stunning.
