I'm sort of glad that Arch made some bad decisions as well as great plays. The last thing we need is a QB "controversy."

Dude could have thrown 80 yard TDs on every play and there wasn't going to be a QB controversy.

People are so damned Mack Brown brained about this. There is nothing wrong with having two great QBs. This is the kind of chickenshit that cost us a conference title chance in 2006 and a national championship chance in 2009. YOU FUCKING DO WANT TWO GREAT PLAYERS AT QB because this is football. People get hurt. So stop being afraid of it.

His deep balls do leave a lot to be desired at times, due to most receivers having to slow down.

That’s more a function of taking too long to pull the trigger than the deep ball, as such, imo.

But, throwing them a little short almost always beats throwing them too long.

Feels like with Quinn either through comfort or to mitigate injury they decided to go heavy on quick passes that feature his knowledge of the of the scheme and accuracy. With Arch they are going for longer passes that have Arch rolling a lot give him time. Those longer developing plays and Arch’s longer decision making is going to gas the oline. He’s also forcing stuff that isn’t there like Quinn did as a freshman which is normal.

One thing for sure…..

It is going to be awesome watching Arch to Wingo the next couple of years.

Both seem to be better than advertised and that is saying a lot.

It's so easy to forget he's younger right now than Colt McCoy was when Colt got his first start. Arch is still a baby freshman, he just got here super early. Colt was 5 days away from turning 20 when Colt started, Arch won't turn 20 until next april.

The socks in my drawer are years older than Arch.

I don’t think anyone is forgetting them. I don’t think people are saying he won’t be fine. I think we’re seeing why the “Arch should starts” idiocy was idiocy, is all.

It’s nice to have a backup who can run the real offense at a fairly high level, but there’s a substantial drop off right now. That’s perfectly understandable.

My take has been Quinn is better now.  Arch will one day be better

Loved the 1st start, but he's got a lot to clean up. Ewers is so much better right now. I think the ceiling is slightly higher for Arch, though.

When Arch learns to only go deep when it's there, he's gonna be real good.  He throws a very nice deep ball.  He just needs to not throw it when the wr is blanketed by 2 or 3 defensive backs.

#1211

It was pretty obvious that Sark told Arch to not scramble and he is still too young to just willingly throw it away. So instead, why not trust his arm and his NFL receivers against over-matched players in the secondary and launch it. Not the best set of routine to get into, but I can't blame him for being young.

I would love to see him hold it a bit less and use his checkdowns, but if he was prohibited from scrambling he is not quite to the point in his development to just throw it away.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news Eli but he’s not getting any depth on his drop which will cause him to struggle when there is a line in front of himWill be in town for TNF this week if you want me to work with him….

Definitely but he’ll learn that. Reminds me of Dan Marino when he first came into the league and was knocking RBs over with screen passes….

#1 Texas beats ULM 51-3 in Arch Manning's first college start. Arch: 15-29, 258 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTsHere are some of Sark's thoughts on his redshirt-freshman QB: "Learning lessons, right? To think he was gonna come out and play a perfect game - I don't think anybody in here…

Solid B for his first start

Bobby didn't mention Farrell's name yesterday, but said he regrets hiring him. He basically, without coming out and saying it, is he's a fucking moron.

Jackson Arnold > Arch Manning?

He's a grifter with no talent. Hates Texas with every fiber of his being. How anyone who could actually say Arnold is better than Arch, while getting benched is...something.

Arch tried to be a bit too perfect on some of his throws, especially those wide open wheel routes. Just lob it out there. He will learn. Arch had some issues, biggest one was chasing the big play. He will learn to take the 5-7 yard check down. I am sure Sark and his uncles told him that already

Sarkisian said as much in the postgame. More or less, once you hit one you want to keep hitting them but sometimes checking down to keep drives going is the smarter move.

I rate his performance a B.

UTSA was an A+ performance (so was Quinn Ewers, though).

What an awful problem to have. I don't understand why everyone hates us.

#1223

Arch just needs to temper the long ball and focus more on the intermediate passes to get more comfortable and build confidence. Those throws to Blue were bad. But he has plenty of time to improve. I don't know if Sark called those plays for if he panicked. But getting your start with 100k+ makes me think he wanted to hit the long ball to make an impression. Just dial it back a little, get comfortable, and then gun sling it. His arm is incredible, tho.

It felt like he knew the game was in the bag and said fuck it. Kinda like playing Madden.

Casey Thompson threw deep ball ducks. I’m not sure y’all know what duck throws look like because Arch doesn’t throw anything that looks like a duck.

Tom Cruise What GIF

Are ducks really that bad of flyers? Maybe albatrosses or songbirds. You anti-duckites have gone too far. It's frankly a canard.

Would you say rabid anti-duckites?

A Peregrine, fastest animal alive, will not chase a duck in a straight line. Gotta have that stoop. (No dicks)

Posted at 3.40AM? What ever he was loving about Jackson Arnold at that time, I don't think it had anything to do with being QB. Although, it may have something to do with being a receiver. NTTAWWT.

Arch is going to be the perfect decoy RB/WR on some Sark red zone play later in the year when Quinn is back.

Yeah, every eye will be on him as we toss it to one of the 4 wide open guys

Arch needs to figure it out.

we don’t need guys that throw wounded ducks.

we need guys that throw healthy falcons or at the very least, slightly obese owls.

An albatross?  Wtf?

I thought Arch's first start was about like it would go. Some good. Some bad. A lot of learning and growing to do. We won't win a national title with him as our QB1 THIS year. Quinn is definitely the guy. Arch will have his time in the next few years and there is nothing wrong with that. Do I feel comfortable with him as our backup? Sure. Do I want him to be our starter/full time QB against teams like ou or Georgia. HELL no. They will eat him for lunch.
