September 18Sep 18 Ash didn't need defenders. He was very good when healthy. He needed to not get concussions. The Ash 2012 campaign was very solid and nearly as good as McCoy in 2009. It’s just in 2012, our defense and special teams were horrendous.GG in 2011 was booed off the field and had to be coached up at SMU by whats his name.

No return. (And that close in, the punter should be able to angle it OOB.) They may fair catch a high punt at their fifteen, but more likely the ten, and if the coverage team is good enough, you get 'em back at the five or the two once or twice per game. That's money in the bank for our D. Aussie Rules, or footy, puts a huge premium on accurate punting, both distance and direction. Dickson was - and is - masterful at those. In footy, the ball is moved best by punting to your own team. A ball caught before it hits the ground is the target, and Dickson regularly put the ball inside the ten yard line where the return man would let it go, hoping for a touchback, but a Longhorn would be there to down it. PM Banks and Bouwmeester.

So we don’t in fact have a QB with an inside mental edge or savant mentors, just another QB with great athletic genes. Doesn’t mean we can’t win a lot with him. That is the sense I get when I hear Peyton get asked questions about Arch. Its more of a "see you at Christmas" kind of relationship than a grooming to be the next great QB.

But at the very least, it appears to have been something akin to trying rework a swing right before the start of the season. In golf, the only thing worse than a locker-room lesson is a tee-box lesson. Is that what's going on here?

It gave me the impression that Sark is a stickler to scheme. Just my opinion, but right now the offense just needs success anyway they can find it. They look broken right now. IMO restoring confidence is paramount at this time. Little success could get them to loosen up and perhaps not look like they are attending a wake. Scheme is useless if your players have 0 belief. Sark not wanting QBs to run is just so fucking stupid. Watch nfl, it’s a necessity 26 minutes ago, Im_smarter_then_you said: To me that was an indictment on Greg and Mack. September 18Sep 18 Watching the Rich Eisen show from this morning. They had Tim Tebow on (I know...) and asked him what he would say to Arch. A lot of word salad, but essentially "remember that you love the game and play like it, block out the noise and enjoy time with your team." That was my takeaway... oh, he also said Oklahoma was the best team in the SEC this year. Not sure what to make of either of those statements, neither gives me confidence.

Yeah, Gilbert was recruited to run a spread offense and Mack forced a pro set, one that Davis was awful at calling, because McCoy got hurt and Alabama bludgeoned the defense with their running game. I don't blame Gilbert for not being able to adjust with a shitty OL and below average skill players.

I wasn't sure so I looked it up, SMU was 5-7 that season and finished middle of the pack in their conference. TCU finished 4-8 that season. SMU played Tech, ATM, and TCU that year and got smoked by all three. Don't know GIlbert's numbers in those games, but looked like he piled up some numbers in conference play.

Squints didn't have uncles with Super Bowl wins, but his dad held - and I believe still holds - the record for Super Bowl Futility, i.e. FIVE Super Bowl Second Place rings, albeit only carrying s clipboard. Be fair, though, his dad was the Cal QB who kinda sorta beat John Elway when the Stanford band marched onto the field while the game was still live and let Cal's rugby kick return score the winning TD.
September 19Sep 19 We're going to get it turned around....Wisener (sp) IMO is a difference maker. Ideally we get him back for UF. We get the Stanford WR back too and things will look dramatically different. With a little luck we'll miss Lagway and can get out of UF with a W , setting up a make or break game in Dallas.

Timing issues for both Arch/Wingo, errant throws, miscommunication, and Wingo drops. 3) Sloppy feet too often for Arch. Again caused by brain going too fast, rushing and pressing. Hopefully he will relax some and play free... get his confidence back and throw with more conviction again. 4) Arch, stop doing things that only work in high school -- dumb interceptions. Trying to do too damn much.

The entire offense needs to elevate their play to make this team go. I'm talking about, OL & TE blocking, WR route running, and RBs having a hell of a lot more success. Sark hopefully finds a rhythm playcalling for Arch that allows him to think less and have a lot more success. Arch has to get his timing right, and get in sync throwing the ball to WRs and RBs. Sure hope Arch can find a way to stop pressing so much, freeing him up to have a lot more fun playing a game he has enjoyed his entire life.

Flood needs to put a foot up these OL asses or change schemes or find different guys. The running game being this horrible is what is really killing the offense. If the WRs are useless need to run 2TE and start overpowering these weak ass teams and work on deep balls between smashmouth football. If we are going to have an excellent defense and Arch be stinky we need a way to win with the running game.
