A 3 loss Texas next year would get in. Bama had 2 of their 3 losses to spares this year. Had Bama had an early season loss to Oregon, a loss to Tenn, and a loss to OU. They wouldve gotten in. Instead they got punked by Vandy.

Vandy isn't why they didn't get in. It was their absolutely horrendous late-season disappearance act in Norman that kept them out.

Edit: Nvm, I see that was covered by @Vic Mackey.

It surely doesn’t have the high stakes like the 4 or 2 team playoff, but the way the committee treated losses this year still gives this game some gravitas. If Texas or OSU gets left out with three losses, you can say goodbye to these heavyweight non conference matchups. It would be horrible for the sport, but why play them if the risk is so much greater than the reward?

The winners get the rewards, not the losers.  Where is this idea coming from that losses shouldn't hurt you?

Okay, y'all, as promised, I have some Longhorn news to share.

I got to hang with Arch Manning today in a stadium doing football-type stuff. It was really fun.

We sometimes forget that these are young men, and he is just a another super-chill guy who likes to have fun. He's taller than I thought he would be in real life.

Like every Texas player I've been fortunate enough to meet in the last three years, he is very approachable. Texas really does pick the best. What a great representative he is for the school.

And to top it off, @immamac, I got him to add his signature to the Sacred '24-'25 Surly Horns Football. The ball now has the following signatures:

  • Arch Manning
  • Quinn Ewers
  • Isaiah Bond
  • Jhadie Barron
  • Tre Wisner
  • Gunnar Helm

The ball is already a treasure that will forever remind us of some of the best players from this magical season, but I am going to see if I can continue to add to it.

I will share pics when I'm allowed to. Thanks and Hook 'Em!

FUCK THE OFFSEASON

Its the Archseason.

i’ve seen multiple “publications” rank Texas as the no.1 team heading into next season and i feel like it’s 100% because of Arch, which is a wild level of expectation considering that we’ll be replacing the lion’s share of our offensive production, not to mention most of the o line.

It's a pretty fascinating situation for us next year on that side of the ball. If you consider 2021 as a throwaway season, all we've really seen during Sark's tenure is the Quinn Ewers offense.

When you consider the issues in 2024 - Baxter ACL, Wisner eventually taking the lead role, Quinn's abdominal and ankle injuries, troubles with the deep ball - we just seemed to be very limited offensively. Inconsistent running game, QB was zero threat on the ground, defenses not scared of getting beat deep, and most of our success passing on predetermined or one read throws. Think about how many big plays in CFB are off schedule. VY's highlight reel is full of them. And we rarely saw that the last few years. By the 2nd half of this past season our offense felt choked out already.

I don't think Arch will improvise a bunch, but it will happen more. Based on early returns, deep completions are back on the menu. Arch wants to and will go through progressions. While his running ability is probably overrated at this point, it's still a weapon. We'll see what happens in the Spring/portal, but I expect the RB room to be in a better situation heading into Game 1 compared to last year. We have a shitload of young talent at WR, maybe need one in the portal.

I've seen many offensive players praise Quinn for the "calmness" he played with and how it positively affected the team. I believe it. 4th and 13 was probably the crowning moment that displayed that particular strength for Ewers. Arch is very different. He will bring physicality and an aggressive mindset. While he's a Manning, he's clearly a modern version. Dude loves to celebrate, talk shit, and has shown a lot of emotion on the field. The energy he brings will be noticeable and, hopefully, hugely effective.

Yeah, I can see him getting in a lineman’s face if said lineman isn’t kicking somebody’s ass every play.

More of an alternate reality persona. You know, like a doppelgänger.,

Did we ever get any actual reporting on his alleged concussion?

Given he'll be toting the rock at least to some degree next season, could be messed up situation if he gets one more next season.

I didn’t get quiet.  I complimented Quinn when warranted and criticized him too.  Posting his qb rating isn’t criticism btw.

anyways, root for the name on the front fella.  It’s more enjoyable when you root for the entire team not just your favorite player

Posting a player's QB rating? It's not about QBR it's about what your offense is asking you to do. What kind of offense is it? What down and distance are you typically throwing on? What kind of routes are you being asked to throw? Not every college QB is being asked to throw 15 yard outs field side. A lot of them are building their qbr on throws to stationary targets. It's a lot easier to throw a 15 yard pass to a receiver who sat down in a zone vs a 15 yard dig vs that same zone. Navy's QB has the 6th QBR in the country Gus. Hope you don't think that means he is the 6th best QB in cfb.

Lastly, dudes like you showing up talking about root for the name on the front? The irony! It's people like you that are the problem. The starting quarterback is in the way of your favorite player so now you don't like him and are unjustly critical of him because you are a fanboy of the guy behind him. So every little thing the guy does is under a microscope with you guys. You guys are like the guys who couldn't appreciate Lebron's time on the basketball court because they felt the need to hate him due to the comparison to Jordan. I appreciated what Quinn brought to the table. I will appreciate what Arch brings as well. I won't spend 450 pages tearing him down like you did.

Yeah, looks like Taaffe like pacman said and given the wardrobe choice maybe Milli Vanilli on his left (Moore and Baxter).
