Texas Women’s Basketball 2023-2024: Handing out ass whoopins and lollipops, and we’re all out of lollipops

Or if you show up in the 2nd Q instead of handing out turnovers and and-ones

Texas men winning at OU and Texas women losing at home against OU is the opposite of what I expected these past 2 days.

We def showed up extremely unprepared. That’s on Vic

Surprised at how inept our defense was. Since defense is Vic’s forte this loss is most certainly on Vic and his staff. Madison scored 29 points and played her butt off. Such a shame her effort was for not.

Oh he’s mad

Light a fire under them, Vic. Hoping he can keep them playing at a high level consistently. Even without Rori, this team is really good. They just have to execute.

I didn’t notice we dropped to 3rd in NET at some point but the OU loss only dropped us to 4th

I have never seen 2 of the luckiest bounces for OU.

3 that for basically every single part of the rim and bounced in

Pass that bounced off the court and into the basket

So what was the final margin again?

LSU would have won if it was a 3 quarter game. Outscores by 10 in the 4th to lose

Cincinnati is going to get an angry and pissed off Texas team.  I'm almost scared for them losing by 30-40

@TommysTinyTowels     Props for always posting the pregame summary.

AAS story on attendance,  not only at Texas but elsewhere.  (lengthy)

Excerpts:

In his postgame press conference, Schaefer described the crowd as "really special." Texas freshman Madison Booker surmised that "we didn't bring it but our fans did."

While the Longhorns were appreciative of the crowd on Wednesday, those in the Texas ticket office may not have been. For the Red River rumble, Texas announced a crowd of 5,478. That was the seventh-largest crowd of UT's season. Texas has played 12 home games.

On Thursday, an on-campus group voiced its displeasure with the student section at the Oklahoma game. The Longhorn Hellraisers took to social media to say that "As we faced our rival yesterday, we expected to see the stands filled with supporting students, and we're greatly disappointed. We need to come together to support all of our athletes."

The Hellraisers then announced that they are working with The Herd, which is an organization that "will support all women's sports, in hopes we can grow attendance in all sports." According to the Daily Texan, The Herd was started by three Texas students as part of a class project.

"My goal as y'all know is that I don't want my fans to come see who I'm playing against. I want my fans to come see our kids. It shouldn't matter who I'm playing against, y'all. Texas fans should come to see their Texas team play.

Fire Zach Zillner. The number of injuries is ridiculous.

There’s no way Vic just stands there and thinks it’s fine the way it is

We look crappy. This just might be a dog fight.

This seems exactly like the kind of game you let Maul run point and get some experience against a 10-8 team and yet…no?

Lloyd says Texas doesn’t have the numbers. We’ve played 6 players. Maybe Vic should expand his bench today.

Vic playing Hadi only one minute so far. Jak 2

Jones, Gonzales and Holle 20 minutes, Moore 18 and Amina 19

Looks like if you didn't play hard you sit. Doghouse rules in effect.

Gonna be a lot more injuries with that attitude. We can’t play the starters 40mpg

Yes.

They mentioned the lengthy practices as well. This team looks tired.

This team is a second round bounce if Vic doesn’t figure out how to incorporate more players

This was going to be the year.
Can’t believe we’re having another season completely derailed by injuries.

So disappointing.

If everyone comes back, besides Shaylee, next year will still be very special. Freshman class should be outstanding

50-34 Texas to the fourth. Finally pulling away

No Booker? Short bench? No problem

Texas wins 67-50. 3 players in double figures, Jones had 7 blocks

Held Cincy to 32% shooting and 14 turnovers

Nice layoff until @Baylor on Thursday

Nice win. Good to see Jak play well. Three words sun up how I feel right now: Fire Zack Zillner.

Jesus only raises the dead. He doesn't do ACL's or ankles.

Only dropped to 12th in the AP after the OU loss. Lloyd thought we’d drop to 14-15.

4th in NET

K-State up to #2 in the AP even after losing Lee.

Hopefully OU can beat them on Wednesday and we can add another game to their loss column on Sunday.

Thursday is #12 Texas vs #13 Baylor. Hopefully Madi and DeYona will both be back for that one.

The LSU women’s basketball team, despite clinching its first everNCAA title in 2023, is struggling with significant financial challenges, as revealed in a recent audit. The LSU athletic department reported a nearly $4 million deficit for the last fiscal year, according to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office, while the women’s basketball team had a nearly $8 million program deficit.

The audit showed that various sectors of the LSU athletic department, particularly women’s basketball, experienced substantial deficits. The championship-winning women’s basketball team faced a nearly $7.8 million deficit. The program’s revenue stood just under $2.5 million, while expenses soared to about $10.3 million, as reported by Holly Duchmann of the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. The significant expenditure for the program was attributed to coaches’ salaries and bonuses, totaling $4.4 million — nearly double the revenue generated by the program.

The audit showed the athletic department’s revenues at approximately $200.4 million against expenses totaling around $204.4 million for the fiscal year 2023, resulting in a deficit of roughly $3.9 million. This financial strain comes despite the school’s football program generating a substantial portion of the department’s revenue, amassing nearly $105.7 million last year — a $18.4 million increase from the previous year and netting a $54 million profit – a nearly 50% increase from the prior year.

So….LSU operating in the red….Mulkey apparently takes home twice as much as the whole ladle’s BB program.

Well of course it operates in the red. Gotta divert as much funding to football and baseball.

Big12 title is out of reach, but we need to keep our ranking within the top 12. A #13-#16 ranked team will get a 4 seed and will have to play a #1 seed in the sweet 16. Staying in between the #5-#12 range will keep us from playing a #1 seed until the E8. Gotta find a way to beat Baylor on the road

Regular season, yes.  Tournament, anything can happen.

But I agree, we need to stay in the 2 or 3 seed range. Need to beat Baylor in Waco, need to beat KSU at home, need to beat OU in Norman.

I assume she turns into a toad?

Gaston and Moore will “try” practicing today per Vic’s presser. Unknown if either play against Baylor but it sounds like a coin flip

Madison, not Moore perhaps.
