In actuality, Zeke is costing the Cowboys $9M for the 2024 season. The Cowboys will still be eating $6M in dead cap from his previous contract.

The dead cap is a sunk cost and has nothing to do with what it cost them in 2024.  The question is he worth 3M or not to bring back.

And the answer is no.

The entire offseason for the Cowboys has been laughable and this is the icing. Back to Zeke?? LOL. Can't make this up.  I can't fathom how anyone manages to be a die hard Cowboys fan.  Jerry just steals your time and money laughing all the way to the bank.  It's truly such a unique blend of incompetence and DGAF (because the $$ will roll in regardless) that it's pretty fascinating to watch.

I swear it's almost performance art that Jerry's doing now as owner/GM. Let me do the most outlandish shit and see if you people will still pay good money to support this franchise. Of course you will.

Money? I haven’t bought anything Cowboys in years.

Yep, he was pathetic in NE. To be expected, he had a lot of mileage at Ohio State and early in his career here. The mileage took a toll like it does any RB. His burst is no longer, he runs like he is in mud. Brings zero value as he is now entering his 9th season.

Front office clown show never disappoints. But I'm sure they know so many dorky diehards love them some Zeke and he still holds a place in their hearts. Not sure, why as we never did this in his era. Had a great first few years and then it's been slowly downhill since and then a rapid dropoff. Those diehards will go out and buy some more Zeke gear. It also gets them in the news as they were non-existent in free agency.

This is why your Cowboys won't change.  Jerry is making the most money, no matter how the team performs.  So why change a damn thing?  He doesn't give a shit about the fan base.  So suck it up dudes and keep sending him your $.

1. Dallas Cowboys, $504 million

It's not surprising the Cowboys lead this list as they are the NFL's most valuable franchise by a considerable margin. In 2022, Dallas raked in $1.14 billion in revenue and had an operating income of $504 million. That's nearly $300 million more than second place.

In today’s NFL the general rule is the RB wall is 27 years old, and 1500 touches. Zeke will be 29 during the season (and he came in young) and has 2420 touches. It’s amazing he can still walk. Terrible signing. I wouldn’t give any RB a second contract. Get a good one cheap early and run the to death, replace, repeat. I wouldn’t give Jim Brown a second contract these days.

Later in the day after Zeke passed his physical and his contract became official, he posted another reaction that will fire up Cowboys fans.

Well brown is dead. But Jerry would still sign him

And he’ll still likely have a higher YPC than Zeke this year.

Reminds me of another situation where someone just bullshits and promises to make things great again yet only brings terrible results and consequences.

Cults don't require results. It's a short circuit in the human brain wiring.

sure you would, he'd be the best linebacker in the league.

Run what back? The mediocrity. Man, do I have a deal for you, Zeke!

With the cowboys 3rd place nfc easy finish this makes 2000 years since we had a back to back nfc east winner

Cowboys will probably do pretty well in the regular season. Then lose as quickly as possible in the playoffs

And Jerry and Stephen sit back and think they are geniuses for this move.

Jerry legit thinks he shut everyone up with this draft.  He's senile and irrational.... Someone needs to call him on his bullshit but the Dallas media is bought and paid for.

But remember back in that 16' draft..... we could have gotten Jalen Ramsey instead and followed up with a guy named Derrick Henry in the 2nd..... He's still getting it done okay.  This wasa major fuck up.  Cowboys were still operating like they were in the 90's, drafting a RB in the first 20 picks.  Still fucking up after all these years.

I know Jerry looks like an old fool, but don’t you know there is a method to his madness? I bet he has a warehouse of Zeke jerseys from three years ago that he can sell now.

And qb play will improve now that his bff is back

Dak should be the #1 fantasy QB this year. Since our running game is going to average 2.5 ypc, he’ll be forced to throw it 50 times a game.

All his distributors dumped a million of them into Nigeria and Ghana the last time. Here comes the redo.

His jersey in the pro shop online is back to full price though the women version is half price.

The NFC East Champion t shirt has been reduced to $23. What idiot would wear something so stupid?

It's too bad. There's simply no way to top this inspired bit of buffoonery for Zeke's final play as a Cowboy.

Zeke should have accepted that he belonged to the ages after that.

They won’t. As long as they’re have Dak and a competent defense they’ll win 10 games and maybe have a shot at the division? Maybe?

And I’ll go out on a limb and say the defense might be…better than last year?

Maybe not in big plays. They probably wont feast on bad teams and below average QBs like under Quinn…

But they’re probably not giving up the stupid big plays on 3rd down and absolutely folding against teams with a pulse or above average QBs.

Geno Smith ain’t gonna put up 35 on you imo.

Plus Diggs is back and while losing gilmore sucks, this Carson kid should be a step in top 4 DB. The LBs will be better imo with Kendrick and Overshwon coming back and the rookie who seems a perfect fit.

It Mazi makes any improvement at all they have a chance to not be trash against the run and not give up huge plays.

"I get this clip sent to me 250 times a year from Cowboy fans." 😅Safe to say @tonyromo had a liiiiitle bit more fun reliving this play than @JJWatt 😭

The most poorly managed team in the NFL.

look at how much cap space each QB has taken up the last 5 years (2000-2004)$151M - Dak Prescott<gap>$134M - Jared Goff$129M - Kirk Cousins$124M - Matthew Stafford$123M - Patrick Mahomes$118M - Deshaun Watson$103M - Aaron Rodgers$103M - Jimmy Garoppolo$96M - Kyler…

I'm beginning to think that Ickes is on to something.

Before we get into the football payroll side of things, let's talk about a concept called the "Family Office" the family office is a tool used by the ultra wealthy to make significant investments into private companies. These are fully incorp'd investment businesses...
In addition to that, the Jones' own a massive NTX land/real estate developing company (Blue Star Land LLC), and a multitude of other significantly sized ventures with which the family are intimately involved, as well as Legends Hospitality, etc.,
So if they can just toss $100M into a Nat'l Gas company to refinance some bank debt, they clearly have cash available... So why won't they pay football players? That's where the speculation comes in....
See, despite what fans want to believe, the upside for return on investment of a dollar spent inside an NFL team is relatively capped, ESPECIALLY for a brand as prominent as the Cowboys.
This wasn't the case when Jones bought the team in 1989 when he essentially staked EVERYTHING into the team. Clark Hunt called it the greatest risk anyone had ever taken in sports.
But now Stephen, who was placed high into the FO months after he graduated from Arkansas, doesn't have the same view. His view revolves around the portfolio as a whole.

This is why I talked about the idea of a "loss leader" a few days ago. The Cowboys don't lose money for sure, but now, the Jones' main purpose is not to "win" based on the Cowboys, financially or otherwise it's to let the Cowboys brand be the thing that gets them ahead other ways
So my theory is that there is a cash budget set somewhere in the range of $200M cash for the year, and that that number likely hasn't changed for several years. From 2021-2023 they never crossed $200M in cash spending, despite the size of their QBs contract.

Signing a Dak extension this spring, or really anything more than one vet FA over the league minimum would push them to the point where they are at or over their budget.
In short, they could easily spend another $100M cash on players this year, and stay well within cap compliance, but they'd rather invest that same $100M into an O&G company, and blame the salary cap for why they didn't do more.
