April 26, 20241 yr Center in the 2nd and sweat in the third maybe if they’re there and Jerry can stomach taking 3 linemen instead of splashy players. Yeah I know Barton was THE center. But there’s 2 other good ones that are 2nd rounders and some thing are as good as Barton. And they got another top 75 pick for the trouble. They get one of the top 4-5 centers and whatever else, RB/LB/DB and they’re good

April 26, 20241 yr Happy about the trade down, angry about the cluster fuck roster management that made trading down a necessity this year.Trading down to pick up picks is always smart at the bottom of the first as most drafts don’t have 32 players with R1 grades. So you get stuck paying a guaranteed contract to a R2 player. They got the guy they were projected to take for weeks, filled a need, and picked up a three.

Said Raiders and Cowboys need a QB and may consider drafting him in the 3rd Rd. 🙄

April 26, 20241 yr Dallas didn’t fuck up the draft so far. They trade back, get the guy most thought they take at 24 and get an extra third round pick. That’s about as good as it could have gone.
April 26, 20241 yr As a neutral observer, the trade down was smart. Clearly Dallas was targeting one guy and knew he'd be their later in the round. I do find it interesting that when I looked at mocks pre-draft, it felt like all of them had the Cowboys taking Guyton. Usually hard to for analysts to nail picks later in the round.
April 26, 20241 yr 8 hours ago, DougO said: Not sure Guyton is a plug-in left tackle, not a ton of experience there, has had injury history as well, developing player. Thought maybe they would go for Sweat or Brooks, but they have a lot of needs. I wouldn't be that thrilled about taking a center there. Yeah, most of Guyton's starts were at right tackle for blOU... not all players can switch from right to left tackle in the NFL.
April 26, 20241 yr The trade down and add a low 3rd was a good move. The team that lost to the packers needed a LBer and I think cooper will be an all pro. He is the player I was hoping the cowboys would take. But since the team has gotten decidedly worse since that loss to Green Bay, taking a CB or OL would be acceptable. I am not sure that Guyton will be that good, but I’m willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt, I guess. Overall, I think we should all expect the team to suck and go through a reboot cycle.
April 26, 20241 yr I mean god damn cowboys. Take cooper, then in the 2nd take a center/guard. Later in the draft take Christian jones and move him to guard. Lots of things that could be done to strengthen the OL and still grab a sure fire player like cooper. Or take kool aid to play beside diggs since the team let Gilmore walk. This team has holes everywhere and I don’t think a project left tackle is the best move when there were certified starters and at least one game breaker available.

As I recall, Summerall was the consummate professional and got tired of Brookshire buffoonish antics that got worse each season and didn’t want to associated with it anymore although he didn’t publicly say it.

We could have stayed put and got a day 1 starter at center, which we desperately need. This guy seems like a project and has an injury history. Dallas usually hits on their 1st round OL picks so hopefully this works. We need someone to replace Tyron Smith and he could never make it as LT in college.
April 26, 20241 yr Yeah, most of Guyton's starts were at right tackle for blOU... not all players can switch from right to left tackle in the NFL. If he can beat out Terrence Steele put him at RT. Move smith to LT. Steele to LG. Need to draft a center in 2 or 3.
April 26, 20241 yr The thing that keeps coming back to me about Cowboys drafts is that they probably spend more draft capital and salary on OL than any other NFL team over the last couple of decades, yet they seem to be rebuilding their OL every other year. They seem to do poorly at sifting out the later round OL prospects, even second and third round guys are often quick flame-outs, meh... or just total busts. Edited April 26, 20241 yr by DougO

That’s because O line is the absolute toughest position on the field to evaluate and you combine that fact with the numbnuts in charge and well there it is.

April 26, 20241 yr Unless the Oregon kid at center is still available, you take Brooks, Benson, or Corum in the 2nd. Not a deep O-Line class in general

The Cowboys seem to want to keep Smith at guard, but he seemed to take to left tackle pretty well, not sure that isn't the best option. You have to find a place for Steele because he’s got a fat contract. Maybe he was not fully recovered from his injury but he was awful last season. Coaching is very important for o line because they also do the philosophy and blocking scheme. Dallas has always done best with a road grater type line scheme. Fat Mike brought in his buddy Joe Philbin who’s an idiot who liked a ballet style scheme. Scolari i don’t know much; linemen tend to not talk much. It’s time for a major rebuild. Zach is showing his mileage a bit. Tyron and biadasz gone. We’ve really been needing a top center since Frederick; he was such a mean badass center but he also was brilliant with his line calls at scrimmage ( a rarely discussed important part of the game). Stepnoski and Donaldson were both great at that too. I was an o lineman and am biased; I am like Madden that the 7 man sled is the key to football. If your linemen can impose their will on the defense you will win the game.
April 26, 20241 yr It don’t make a shit who we draft none of them will be game changers for us next season and every team reloaded and we deloaded. If we make the playoffs. Futureman will fist his own ass. But we are likely number 3 in the nfc east.

April 26, 20241 yr They shouldn't take a RB at all in R2...I'm not even happy about R3 but no R2 for sure. Get the walk in center...you'll have addressed the OL issues in the first two rounds. I COULD see them doing the best LB available too and going C/RB in the 3rd. I don't want them taking Brooks. They don't need to waste a high pick on a RB, even if he's potentially the best...especially off injury.

April 26, 20241 yr Welp, the Eagles had a terrible secondary.... so they've upgraded tremendously with 2 CBs.
April 27, 20241 yr AD Mitchell on the board is...... tempting. With JPJ gone, then I pivot to the WVU kid or hope Beebe is there in the 3rd.
April 27, 20241 yr Jerrah being a moron continues..... Just a human telegraph. That's fine.... Again, AD Mitchell..... Hmmm.....
April 27, 20241 yr Bleh.... I guess Beebe then. He'll be a really good interior lineman. Cowboys gotta be the least aggressive front office in the league.
April 27, 20241 yr White linebacker with an injury history is still on the board. Jerry probably can’t control his old man boner.
