October 3, 20232 yr When a ranked KU team comes in and plays at UH,…they’re not getting 1.8 million viewers

The other four have been dominant BYU victories. One thing our program does is play to the level of our competition. We will play down to our competition, but we'll also play up to our competition when we have a chip on our shoulders. This team won't be fucking around on 10/28. fatwa

October 3, 20232 yr The gas to get the TV truck to Lubbock cost more than the ad revenue from 100k viewers.
October 3, 20232 yr 4 hours ago, statsman said: Yeah, those TT-UH numbers… That’s not good. So Tech vs UH got 3% of the viewership of Texas vs Kansas? That disparity is incredible.
October 3, 20232 yr 40 minutes ago, Paul Wesley said: So Tech vs UH got 3% of the viewership of Texas vs Kansas? That disparity is incredible. Tech is having a really bad season. Even when Coog High is having a really good season Houston doesn’t care. And, they suck. The apathy on both sides is astounding, but, 3% of a mostly non-competitive game - I don’t care if it’s UT-Michigan - is fucking weird. Tech is ginormous.
October 3, 20232 yr Seriously, something is happening. I remember, in 1995, when the program had an upswing after a decade in the doldrums, everyone was surprised at the demand for Texas Football- viewership, tickets, t shirts, loot. It was enough to launch a network! If we’re on another upswing, we will show everyone which one of OUT was the desirable one, which one is “USC” and which is “UCLA”. it’s hard to imagine a dramatic increase in demand for Longhorn football, but…get ready for a dramatic increase in demand for Longhorn football. My fear is that the IR8 and Yormark can see the avalanche coming and use their influence for the rest of the season to put on some brakes.

This is bad for the conference. Reduces exposure and payouts. Plus both of these teams could benefit from playing bowls and neither had any hope of a playoff chance, so there’s no reason to not play a bowl game. Extremely short-sighted on their part. Glad the Big12 is punishing them for it.

Glad the Big12 is punishing them for it. Agreed, two programs that very much need the conference, have coaches, and are costing the other members of the conference money. Seriously if you are Klein or Rodgers you and your new staff wouldn't get anything out of 3 weeks of practice and scrimmage film?
December 7Dec 7 There are probably 5 programs in the country that are satisfied with the status of college football in general. And one of those is Tech. i the last couple of years they’ve subtracted Texas and OU and added Cody Campbell. No reason they can’t win the conference every damn year. Maybe TCU can compete? But, they will win it and go to the playoffs because as the OP points out, the Big 12 is fucking awful.
December 8Dec 8 I legit do not understand how it is beneficial to skip your bowl game. The extra practices alone make it worth it.

We don’t have a big money donor like Tech has, but ASU should never finish worse than 2nd or 3rd each season in this conference if our QB, whoever that is each season, stays healthy. We’re the only school in the entire conference located in an area people actually want to live in. Overall the conference is just a mess though when you have one school being bankrolled to relevance with 12 or 13 schools that will never be able to compete financially. I’m glad ASU has the best coach in the conference, by far, but he’ll still need some financial backing to make it work every season.

I'd live in Denver, SLC, DFW, most likely Houston, and possibly even Cincinnati before moving to Phoenix. Orlando would likely be a toss-up. Have you ever spent much time there? It's a hot-as-balls hellscape of desert sprawl with no soul that shouldn't exist except for the dwindling water supply that has to be imported in from the (other) Colorado River even to make it liveable. Plus, their Mexican food fucking sucks.

Yeah, Tucson seems alright, though I haven't spent much time there, just passing through. But I've got family in and around Phoenix, so I've been there quite a bit over the last four decades. I've only spent a 4-5 days in Kansas City for a conference a few years ago, and the downtown area wasn't bad at all, and I've heard Lawrence is a nice little college town. Mostly, I'm just taking issue with the statement that Arizona State "is the only school in the entire conference located in an area people actually want to live in." It's just a patently false assessment. I can't speak to Des Moines/Ames, Manhattan, Morgantown, or Stillwater (OKC isn't so terrible, though, but Tulsa's actually okay) so no judgment against them until I see/experience them. I like Tempe / Mesa, which is where ASU is. Yeah, it's hot but doesn't feel like Houston ball sweat. It's just hot. I've only stopped for gas in Tucson. It looks like it can either be a cool city or a giant meth lab. Maybe both. Des Moines is quaint, but duck that winter at all costs. Manhattan and Lawrence are just Midwest towns. Lawrence isn't terrible and it's not too far from KCMO if you need some city. KCMO is cool. I've had plenty of fun there over the last 30 years. Never stepped foot in Stillwater or Morgantown, but I've been in Oklahoma and WV enough to know I'm not trying to spend much time in either place.

December 9Dec 9 Don't sleep on Houston next year. Keisean Henderson is going to be pretty damn good. UH doesn't have the NIL money other schools have, but they are signing good local talent. They have a good coach. Kind of reminds me of how people blew off UH basketball when they first joined the Big 12.
