Texas Football: Marquise Goodwin torches fastest NFL player 40-time

by Andrew Miller.   2 days ago

The biggest non-conference showdown of any Big 12 team set for the fall will come in Week 2 on Sep. 7 between Texas football and the LSU Tigers. With that in mind, current and former players could be constantly searching for bragging rights until Sep. 7 comes around and this Texas football team and LSU are taking the field at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium under the lights.

However, it was the former Texas Longhorns star wide receiver and potential 2020 Summer Olympian Marquise Goodwin that was torching LSU competition during the NFL offseason. Goodwin lit the rest of the field on fire over the weekend.

The first annual edition of the 40 Yards of Gold took place in Sunrise, FL, at the BB&T Center with Goodwin and former LSU cornerback Donte Jackson in competition. Goodwin and Jackson were the two finalists in the competition, and a Tweet from David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel showed that the former Longhorn standout took the competition title by a 0.05-second margin.

The prize for this compeition, which was hosted by the former Cincinatti Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, was an overwhelming $1 million. Goodwin got to take that bag home while proving that he could be the NFL’s fastest player right now. That is good news for him since he is reportedly looking to compete for a spot in the USA Men’s Track and Field Team for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

There was good competition in terms of current NFL players trying to win this 40 Yards of Gold title over Goodwin. The rest of the field also included highlighting names like New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara and Washington Redskins veteran cornerback Dominique Rogers-Cromartie.

Goodwin does live by burning past opposing defensive backs for the 49ers in the NFL. He drew a lot of social media excitement from other NFL players and former teammates. This is cool to see Goodwin getting this title and prize for himself and Texas fans.

Nobody getting any scratch yet

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/07/05/players-who-ran-in-40-yards-of-gold-still-waiting-for-their-money/

Players were given checks on the night of the event but were told not to cash them until today. Sean Lindsey, a lawyer representing one of the players, told Sports Business Daily that the players were later told not to cash the checks and instead to provide bank account numbers to receive payment in the form of wire transfers. But that didn’t happen either.

“As to whether the money’s there or not, I don’t know,” Lindsey said. “I hope it is. The one thing I despise the most in this industry is individuals trying to take advantage of professional athletes. I don’t know if that’s what’s going on here. I hope not. But these guys need to get paid.”

40 Yards of Gold co-Founder Charles Stewart said “Every participant will be paid” but did not say when, or explain why they haven’t been paid yet. 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin won the event and was supposed to receive $1 million.

Did they ever post his times?

sadly, such details are too much of burden in a 40 yard sprint.

Still one of the best away games I've been to.  Man, what a blast that night was!

Damn I just saw that he missed today’s game for personal reasons...   Fuck.

The question was going to be which wide receiver would be a healthy scratch. Marquise Goodwin was on the field warming up before the game without cleats, so that gave it away. The 49ers didn’t practice on the field this week, they just filed injury reports. The short week likely has a lot to do with Goodwin being a healthy scratch.

So he’s back & healthy, just drew the short straw because of TNF. Better than the alternatives.

Saved $7M of cap by dumping Goodwin and Breida which should help ink Trent Williams' new deal.

God what a nightmare going from the Bay Area to Philly.
