They’ll need to protect Robertson against Nwankwo or that could end up being an issue.

He could choke out a drive or two.

Other than that, bang-up job.

Houston's defense is the second worst unit in the conference per adjusted epa metrics, only slightly ahead of Baylor's offense, and if Shapen had been playing all year, then Houston's defense would be the worst

Nwankwo is a load, he'll challenge the worst part of our offense attacking the IOL. That said, there's nothing else.

Like to see Texas defense repeat this Saturday 🤘

Injury update from Orangebloods

  • Majors is out this week. Still likely several weeks away
  • Hutson is also doubtful this week
  • CJ Baxter still battling a foot issue and is not 100%. Sounds like he’s questionable.
  • “Pretty sure” Sanders will play.

Didn’t mention any of the other guys (Watts, Catalon, etc).

Rest them all for BYU

Injury reports, Cougar, Purple Line..... it don't make a shit.

Sark's top 3 priorities:

1. Crush the enemies

2. See them driven before you

3. Listen closely for the lamentations of their women

Team notes from IT. Didn't reveal much on the injury front but assuming the guy out til Kansas State is Majors.

Spoiler

It was back to business as usual this week after the post-RRS bye. The previous game offered the coaches and players plenty of food for thought and plenty to work on between the lines.

At 5-1 Texas is still at the front of the Big 12 Championship race and part of a log jam chasing a national title. The program removed its margin of error for the former but are mainly focused on the latter at this point.

The road to redemption against OU begins in Houston as the Horns get ready to face a Houston team that has only played one game since September 30.

Were missed tackles against OU an outlier or a sign of things to come?

Our sources believe the individual missed tackles were a function of Dillon Gabriel being slipperier than they thought. Texas also feels like they over-played and were over-emotional looking for hard tackles and kill shots. In the process the defenders lost technique rather than coming under control and getting them on the ground. Tackling was heavily discussed and emphasized in practice the last two weeks.

Steve Sarkisian recently lamented the lack of forced fumbles

That issue is odd because they work on it so much. It’s always stressed in practice by coaches and players alike. The feeling is it’s different when ‘thudding’ a tackle and then going for the ball in practice and in a game where you have to get the ball carrier on the ground first. Players have to be more cognizant of going for the rip while letting other white hats tattoo the ball carrier. Pursuing and forcing fumbles was another heavy point of emphasis during the bye week.

How was practice this week, did any stand out?

It’s only been two weeks since they played but they’re definitely tired of practicing against each other. Practices have been chippy and competitive when the two sides of the ball go at it in team run.

Bloody Tuesday was really physical.

Players attitude and mindset after the bye

Everyone wants to get that bad taste out of their mouth. Only way to take away the pain is to give it to another opponent. They have to treat every game like the Big 12 Championship. They know they can’t let up. One more loss and it will cost them a lot.

Sark has said Johntay Cook should receive more snaps

Cook has great feel for a receiver at his young age. Good route running, speed, and hands are obvious. But he’s comfortable out there for a freshman. Freshman are normally nervous, don’t want to mess up, and play timid. He knows what route to run depending on what the defense shows them. He is indeed ready for more snaps.

As for his upside? He can be as good as Xavier Worthy per a good source.

How good are Houston’s WR’s?

The Cougar wide receivers are viewed as being good. They’ll be one of the best groups they face all year. But Texas feels it has the DB’s to matchup.

U of H quarterback Donovan Smith

Had the game of his life last year. He’ll be confident. Texas is expecting Dana Holgorsen to use him A LOT on the ground, similar to last week against West Virginia. Houston has nothing to lose. This is their biggest game of the year.

As for injuries

We don’t go into great detail regarding injuries right before a game. There are a number of guys who are questionable. At least one won’t play until Kansas State as the staff wants him to come back properly healed.

Another player had a minor setback after looking like he’d for sure play this week. We’d call him doubtful.

We do think it’s likely one starter will be back but that could truly be a game time decision.

We also expect somebody to try and ‘gut’ through the issue at center.

Parting shots

There’s confidence they’re going to score a lot of points. The belief is the red zone offense will be better than it has been. This was a huge point of emphasis by Sark but not just when it comes to ‘execution’. Sark has said there are things he needs to get fixed on his end and there’s a lot of confidence he’s on the right path.

Per a source, as much as they hated losing it’ll be interesting to see if they come out better for it after having some flaws exposed and time to work on them.

Right when I’m pretty sure sonny dykes has the most punchable face in college football…

Bobby revealed a little bit more on injuries on IT's livestream this morning:

Baxter- "Expected to be full go"

Majors- "Likely"

Sanders- "Likely"

Catalon, Watts, Hutson- "We don't know"

That shit pisses me off. So watching Gabriel for 2 seasons they figure out he's slipperier than thought. WTF, I saw that after 2 games last year. And the kill shots BS is ridiculous. Why wasn't that corrected immediately, if not at half time?? "Hey fuckheads, the next player that tries to make a kill shot instead of wrapping up is gonna get sent to the shower." Are they going to let Smith run for 300 yrds??

The injuries sure suck. Means Sanders may not be playing. And, everyone wants to wear down the other defense with depth, but then the starting C and backup are out. Why is it when Texas players get hurt it's always 2 at the same fucking position?🤕

Edit, didn't see 2147's post, maybe Sanders plays, but 2 db's out against a passing team isn't good.

Damn, I havent heard the name Lance Gunn in a hot minute!  And who is this Peter Gardere guy?

Nope. You sync Craig Way via the Texas app or the Varsity app and you never hear a single utterance from Brando. You just have to make sure you look away from the tv when they show his smug mug so you don't punch the screen.

I apologize if the question has been asked 20 times, but does anyone know which side the Horns will be on in relation seating section? Just found out we’ll be able to shoot down and need to grab some tix.

A "Saturday showdown". More like a Saturday beat down.

This is a cupcake game that fortunately counts as a conference game.

My only issue is Hulu is like 40 seconds behind, so it's impossible to sync up.

But I'll be at the game for this one so allllll good

They should be on the north side i'd think.

Hard to believe now, but in a year we beat OU, A&M, Arkansas, and Penn State, that was the most satisfying win of them all.

BTW, for anyone familiar with TDECU, are the SRO tix worth getting?

Just a fyi, don’t bring your handgun and keep it in your truck. Especially if your truck has any maga / trump stickers, go Brandon, come and take it, ect … You’re begging for someone to break into your truck. Last week they caught two guys breaking into trucks around Minute Maid, they had 40 pistols
