At some point you have to wonder if Cuban is nothing more than an internet bubble baby who lucked into a $2 billion exit on top of a fairly worthless business built with funny money, and once loaded simply used his incredible wealth and to make more money, like all billionaires can do pretty easily. I like Cuban but I don’t think he’s nearly as smart or effective as his wealth and reputation implies. Timing is everything. He was in at the beginning of the PC Boom like Dell and then he sold at the right time during dot com bubble. he could be lucky or he could know something. Seems to know tech. He's basically gonna waste 2 top 25 NBA players because he knows shitall about basketball. He's tech money version of Jerry Jones.
March 3, 20241 yr Nico is doing fine given the shit hand he was dealt. They have a decent roster now that is more talented than the one they made it to the WCF with. Time to cut the cord on Kidd, though, or I will call for Nico to go as well. Dude just brings nothing to the table. Not being a top 6 seed with this bunch just isn’t okay.
March 3, 20241 yr Jason Kidd makes Avery Johnson look like Phil Jackson. No idea how that loser is still here. He has no feel for in game management at all.
March 4, 20241 yr If Hardaway is cold we lose. It’s been that way for a few years. Mavs are better with Gafford/Washington, but they still need a real #3 and Kidd isn’t the guy.

March 4, 20241 yr Kidd has to go. Maybe Kenny Attkinson or maybe even coach Bud would be a a huge upgrade.

Jason Kidd as head coach was a bad decision. he doesn't scheme. players love him because he doesn't yell at them and doesn't keep them accountable. players also respect his playing career. he's not a leader. he doesn't make his team better. he doesn't keep himself accountable. he wouldn't be a terrible coach for a team that has strong veteran leadership with a solid identity. but he's a terrible coach for a team who needs a strong guiding voice that teaches a team how to win. he should never have been hired for this team. i think cuban hired him b/c he's likable. all the failed free agent trysts with jordan, dwill, dwight howard... plague cuban and he desperately needed someone who FAs and players (esp LD77 in light of his fallout with rick carlisle) would find attractive. hence kidd. Quote 3. Wasting Luca is frustrating. we are doing him no favors by keeping kidd as HC. he needs to be strongarmed into growing up. take each game, each possession, the entire process from pregames to postgames to offseason... seriously. Quote 4. I highly questioned the Nico hire primarily because of his lack of experience as an NBA GM. i did too but he's been great other than the brunson debacle and who knows what really happened there. Quote 7. The constant lack of focus on defense is frustrating. i don't think there's a lack of focus on defense. the coaching staff has a plan and the players are trying hard. the gm has been trying to find the players necessary to execute the plan. in reality, the coaching staff's plan is rubbish and is next to impossible to work in today's NBA. you can't have a team of small perimeter guys who can't defend 1v1 rotating all over the floor after collapsing on someone in the paint. every team in the NBA can shoot from behind the arc especially when they're left open because you came off them to help defend.
March 4, 20241 yr What I find so frustrating about Kidd along with everything mentioned is that he was a magnificent defender. On and off ball. He was a basketball genius that could see two passes ahead but doesn't help his team offensively at all. It's like he forgot all the things that made him so good as a player. Also Fuck Mark Cuban

Also Fuck Mark Cuban The issue is that Kidd isn't coaching Kidd. He knows what to do, but he is incapable of teaching someone else how to do it. He was a great improviser, and that is something you can't teach. And let's be fare, as great of a player as he was, he only has one ring to show for it, and he owes that mostly to Dirk.
March 5, 20241 yr Why isn’t someone reminding him that Gafford was playing great AND they gave up a first round pick to get him. Burying him on the bench behind maxi makes absolutely no sense.

He played 26 minutes against Philly and got 2....2 points. It's not an isolated game either. Here are his last 5 games.

March 6, 20241 yr Gafford 16/10 in 21 minutes Kleber 0/1 in 15 minutes Lively 0/1 in 16 minutes sure, Gafford is the #3 option...
March 6, 20241 yr Author Lively and maxi were terrible tonight on both ends of the floor. Gafford was bad on defense despite his blocked shots but at least he contributed offensively. I can't believe how we couldn't grab defensive rebounds.
March 6, 20241 yr This team has taken on the demeanor of their coach. Hands in pockets, no emotion, and just out there going through the motions. I can't believe Kidd has lasted as long as he has here.

The roster is an issue but Kidd is just not a good coach.
March 6, 20241 yr 1 hour ago, idigTexas said: I was wrong...it was smoke and mirrors. yep. we got some new toys. teams needed some time to figure it out. Kidd is holding the team back but we all knew that would be the case. Luka and Irving were supposed to overcome his coaching. They play sloppy against teams with a pulse. hardaway is still on the team...so that tells you the roster situation.
March 7, 20241 yr I feel bad for THJ. Under a competent coach and certainly wherever he goes next he won't be getting nearly the same amount of attempts/minutes.
March 15, 20241 yr Is there a reason as to why Texas didn't, doesn't get a college night at one of the Mavs games this season? The hats for the other schools are actually nice.
March 17, 20241 yr I’m happy about the outcome but Maxi looks horrible out there on both ends, and nearly cost the Mavs the game.
March 17, 20241 yr I can’t be the only one who almost had a stroke watching THJ nearly pull the trigger after getting that rebound at half court. Great team win though and great to see Lively play well in this type of matchup vs very capable Denver bigs. Edited March 17, 20241 yr by ITHorn

PJ at least gets some boards, but goodness they're black holes
March 18, 20241 yr Strange game. Nuggets shot better from the field, way better from 3, and better from the line, but the Mavs got 21 offensive rebounds. Weird box score.
March 18, 20241 yr I understand in theory why Tim keeps getting minutes. But at a certain point I think Kidd has to come to terms with the fact that it’s no longer a cold streak from 3 and just who he is as a player at this point.

But at a certain point I think Kidd has to come to terms with the fact that it’s no longer a cold streak from 3 and just who he is as a player at this point. I disagree, Timmy's a lifetime 36% 3 point shooter over 11 seasons. This low 20% cold streak he's on will revert back to mean and it'll come in a string of ridiculous >40% games. In the meantime I think kidd's going to keep doing what he's done recently, giving him about 20 mins a game hoping he finds his rhythm. I wish Kidd would give Hardy Timmy's minutes though instead of exum. When exum plays too much he loses his efficiency and he starts to press.

Timmy will win us some games when he snaps out of this. But yea, the leash needs to be short until then.
March 20, 20241 yr Pretty entertaining game. The spurs court, logo, uniforms all suck tonight. Mavs cool as always
March 20, 20241 yr Absolute stinker from Luka and still get the win. 14-6 in the past 20 (includes the Strus miracle and Luka missing vs OKC). not too shabby
March 20, 20241 yr I wonder what our record is when we give up less than 115 points. It had to be pretty good.
March 20, 20241 yr 10 hours ago, Rex Kramer said: 24-3 So basically, if the Mavs play league-average defense, they are elite.
March 22, 20241 yr Sac and NO both lose so Mavs move into the 6th seed and only 1.5 games out of the 5th.
March 22, 20241 yr I'm trying to figure out this stat. Luka and Kyrie played the same number of minutes but with a huge discrepancy in +/-. Luka's stats are all decent. Our defense when he was on the court without Kyrie must have been nonexistent.
March 26, 20241 yr Really big 2-game stretch here against the Kings. I think if the Mavs can split them, they're in a really good spot to pass the Kings in the last few weeks. Kings still have LAC, NYK, BOS, OKC, NO, and PHO left. Meanwhile, the Mavs only have one team after this that's in a playoff spot (Heat are in a play-in seed right now) and that's OKC the last game of the season.
