May 23, 20241 yr Just finished Episode 10. This whole thing was excellent. Spoiler Toragama using the same line Yabushige had told Omi earlier ("Why tell the future to a dead man") when he seconded Yabu was absolutely awesome. I presume it meant that Omi had been in league with Toranaga the entire time or at least that Toragama's spy network was so effective that he literally knew everything that was happening everywhere. I think that's why he waited before taking Yabu's head; he wanted to make sure he understood what he was saying and got it.

June 9, 20241 yr finally got a chance to restart on ep.7 but goddamn if hulu hasn't gone fucking berserk with the ads.... it took 3 hours to watch 2 hours of content if they want people to stop paying them altogether that's a great way to do it

June 12, 20241 yr George RR Martin uses double-spaces after periods. Which proves double-spaces are superior, and the Chicago Manual of Style et al can go suck it.
December 7, 20241 yr Finally started it up this week. Through 4 episodes and I think it’s great. hulu ads are an asswhip though.
January 6Jan 6 Already cleaning up at the Golden Globes. Hiroyuki Sanada wins for Best Performance by An Actor and Tabadnobu Asano for Best TV Supporting Actor. Anna Sawai should win for Best Actress shortly.

The fact I know this or have an opinion is something of a character flaw (because Awards season is stupid), but the Globes always go for international co-productions.

January 7Jan 7 Swept the Emmys. Swept the Globes. You got the bag. Time to end the facade. https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/shogun-season-2-update-writers-room-producers-1236266521/ Every non-update from Kondo and Marks is we have ideas, we’re writing them down. I would be shocked if they start production on a second season. Edited January 7Jan 7 by billfromlaketravis

They are using Shogun as their centerpiece for promoting Hulu like Netflix did with House of Cards and HBO did with The Sopranos. If there’s any chance they can put together a second season they will want to take it. I’m also sure the series does bonkers money in international sales.

January 9Jan 9 Would season 2 be Taipan, or are they just going to make up shit for Shogun after the book ends. I mean it really went well for GOT when they didn’t have any book material. Fuck that fat turd.

That's what really brought in a lot of folks. Taipan might be a chronological "sequel" but it's not really a sequel. It's an unconnected story and I don't think the general public would really follow it if they called it "Shogun 2: Now in Hong Kong! (and 250 years later)" That said, I'd love for someone make a Taipan series with the same level of thought, effort, and production as Shogun. And a new Noble House miniseries would kill it, too. The Leftovers and The Watchmen..... although I do not think Damon Lindelof is involved in this.
