November 16, 20232 yr watched this last night and it's great. as an added bonus, hbo max has added a bunch of his movies as well.
November 16, 20232 yr I got to watch this. When he would be on Carson he would just kill it. He was my favorite comic back then though lots of folks couldn’t get past Steve Martin. He is so fucking funny.
November 16, 20232 yr Watched it a couple nights ago. Excellent. You forget all the movies he was in for awhile there. "Lost in America" is one of my all time favs. "The Desert Inn has heart!"
November 16, 20232 yr Defending Your Life is one of my favorites. Albert Brooks and Rip Torn were awesome together.

November 16, 20232 yr Watching him in Drive as a Jewish mobster showed incredible range. Love his stuff.

November 18, 20232 yr Really good documentary, and I’m glad Reiner touched on the absurdity of the name “Albert Einstein” and the legendary tale of the passing of Parkyakarkus. I also watched Defending Your Life the other day (I think the NYT prompted me with a blurb). The doc led me to Modern Romance, which I’ve never seen before. Found it on Tubi, which may actually have some worthwhile content (I’ve never tried it before). I watched a few minutes late at night to see if I wanted to continue, and I’ll finish it soon. Cringe-inducing relationship self-destruction is a theme with which the younger Vito can identify.

November 19, 20232 yr I watched Real Life several years ago after being intrigued by the absurdist trailer for it and was very entertained
November 23, 20232 yr I always believed, or at least suspected, that As Good As it Gets was written for him, as the role was absolutely perfect for him and he'd had success with James L Brooks in the past. But that's just pure speculation on my part.
November 23, 20232 yr "The bird lives in a round STICK!" I nearly suffocated laughing the first time I saw this.

November 24, 20232 yr Albert Brooks feels like one of those guys for whom there’s an age line where people older than the line know him and people younger have never heard of him at all. Edited November 24, 20232 yr by Liquor and Poker Feels kind of intrusive to ask
November 24, 20232 yr If you haven't seen Modern Romance, it has his two greatest set pieces - buying running equipment from his brother, Super Dave, and the space special effects running sequence. It was my introduction to hm and remains my favorite. Edited November 24, 20232 yr by The Original Greaser Bob
