Based on the offenses I watched him coordinate, I’d say you’re spot on.

The expertise are not in coaching.

I just hope T'vondre Sweat remembers how to rush the passer, what with our pass rush analyst moving on.

Wow..thank you so much! Being an old guy in my early 7O's, I had forgotten most of that crap. So pleasant reading three pages of that!!

That was Mack. What was said at the time was that Muschamp, being tired of waiting as the official Head Coach in Waiting attempted a coup. He pointed out to the big cigar motherfuckers that the O was pretty much entirely responsible for the plunge, and essentially forced Mack to get rid of GDGD. Boom wanted to poach Holgorsen from OSU.

Mack put on his silver-tongue used car salesman persona and whined that Holgo the Barbarian was unsuitable for the finer culture of TEXAS, because he was divorced, lived in a Hotel, was known to drink to excess, was known to gamble, associated with female companions of unduly young ages... and, well, you prolly get the idea. Just... unsuitable. I supposed at the time that the cigars decided to humor Mack and let him pick his new OC. He picked Chryst. Chryst said "Fuck that shit" and demurred.

I will agree with those of your who were at least somewhat pleased by the Harsin hire. It might have worked if Harsin had been able to ignore Applewhite's bringing of Mack's messages. Neither Applewhite nor Harsin had the personal strength to face down Mack.

You need to keep in mind that GDGD was always basically nothing more than an extension of Mack and always did exactly as he was told. If it worked, it was all to the credit of Mack; if it didn't work, GDGD accepted the blame. GDGD was never more than about .500 as a coach if he didn't have Mack telling him what to do. When Mack ran out of ideas, GDGD had no help to give.

Mac McWhorter and Greg Davis had mailed it in with their recruiting evaluations and strategy.

BTW, McWhorter returned to coaching this year for the Paris Musketeers of the European Football League.

Not a bad place to live and coach for retirement.

Assuming they can get past the Fightin' N'Apollyons...

Would Sark go to the NFL for a LB coach? Say a coach currently coaching the Texans?

Honestly, I'm don't know enough of the rumored guys to have a strong opinion.

Inside Texas has heard only one name to replace Jeff Choate as Texas linebackers coach. That doesn't mean there aren't more coaches under consideration, or that this coach is a lock for the position, but we do believe Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen is Steve Sarkisian's first choice to replace Choate.

Of note:

- Nansen has worked under Sark at Washington and USC
- Nansen played linebacker in college but has coached multiple positions in his career
- He has been very successful in his short time as a DC at Arizona
- He has a very strong reputation as a recruiter, particularly out West where Texas would love to strength its recruiting grip
- Nansen was born in Samoa and lived in American Samoa before moving to America as a teenager

Potential hurdles?

- He's currently the DC and play caller at Arizona. Would he take a demotion even if it came with a significant pay raise? He currently makes $750,000 but would surely enter the million dollar club on Texas' staff. There's always the potential Arizona would re-up to a satisfactory level
- What's his best route to becoming a head coach, assuming that's his goal? That could be a pro or con for Texas' chances. Time with Sark to better understand how to navigate the current climate would be seen as a pro

One thing's for sure, Nansen and Sark are close. Sark elevated Nansen from coaching obscurity when Nansen was at Idaho. Because of his ability to recruit, Sark made sure to find roles for Nansen on his staff.

With Texas going to the SEC and Arizona sentenced to the Big 12, that would be another reason for Nansen to seriously consider the move.

We'll have much more on this if circumstances warrant. Our info points to Nansen being the top candidate on the board to replace Jeff Choate.

Money whipping a DC to be a position coach is the type shit I'm here for.

I thought @closetojumping (or someone else- sorry if misappropriated) had mentioned that Nansen was Sark’s (heavy) drinking buddy back in the day.  It’s interesting that Sark has seemingly never gone to his previous list of assistant coaches even when they’ve been widely available.  It almost seemed like he purposely avoided them.   Just my thoughts on this

Arizona really isn’t in a very good position to win a bidding war right now.

Maybe but if you can get Nansen as a position coach it's probably too much to pass up.

He's an insanely good recruiter. Go see USC's 2018 LB recruiting class.

While I think that would be a great hire, this sounds like pure aggie fantasy.

I think we will see assistants across the board get raises this off-season especially Bo Davis. A Co-DC position is available if we wanted to make a splash type hire at the LB position.

Nansen was a top 5 recruiter at a school like USC. He's worth some major money if that's what it takes to get him as a position coach.

100% bullshit, Nahlin just googled former Sark assistants found the biggest name and ran with it. Nansen is the DC at a power 4 school that is currently one of the hottest teams in the country. He is absolutely not going to take a demotion for a pay raise, that’s a step back in his career.

It actually happens quite a bit.

Matter of fact, Willie Simmons (head coach of Florida A&M) is probably going to be the next RB coach at Duke. Mainly because of his connection to Diaz. Saban has done this a few times too.

The guy he would be replacing was a head coach when he was hired.  There's already precedent here.

And Choate is now a D1 head coach.

That's why the "career advancement" argument is sometimes a wash. Prove you can recruit/develop at a school like Texas and it's just as likely to get you a head coaching gig as a DC job at tier 2 or tier 3 school.

I totally agree that Nansen is a witch recruiter - and would be so at Texas.  The fact that IT is the first to mention this gives me some pause on its actual veracity

He'd be getting a raise and a co-DC title. As pointed out above, Choate left a head coaching position to come here.

I swear, some of you let your hatred of all things 9.95 cloud your judgement. "Nahlin said the sun rose in the east this morning."  "He's just throwing shit against the wall!!"

Florida A&M is a FCS school in the SWAC which is the lowest level of D1 football. Going from FCS to FBS is a promotion, that is not even remotely the same as going from P4 coordinator to P4 position coach.
