December 1, 20232 yr This game is triggering my PTSD of so many past teams that started the season strong and then collapsed and were barely mediocre by March.

December 1, 20232 yr I think he shouldn't go by Ace-mas until he starts making shots. He is Abe-mas for now

December 1, 20232 yr its gonna be a rollercoaster watching Max play all season. Dude aint afraid to put it up.
December 1, 20232 yr This game may be a blessing in disguise. We need to run more zone like this with Mitchell at the top of the zone. We should not be getting beat off the dribble against teams that can't shoot. Let them shoot from the perimeter and then it leads to fast break buckets like it is now.

We weren't an elite defense last year, and we will not be an elite defense this year. You can't be an elite defense when you start two 6' guards. This team needs to score in the 80s consistently because the offense can be lethal.
December 1, 20232 yr PnR doesn't work with Shedrick. This is why we need Disu back. Keep Shedrick on the low block.

Texas State hitting jumpers and we're getting fast break points when they aren't hitting tough shots. We need to run more zone to just keep the ball in front.

We also aren’t scoring in the 80s on offense when our guards are Abmas, Hunter, Horton, and Weaver.
December 1, 20232 yr Way too much dribbling on offense this game … they’ve shown earlier this season they can whip the ball around and get open shots but don’t seem interested in running any sets at all on offense tonight

December 1, 20232 yr 2 minutes ago, Rickylovesweed said: Lol wut? Yeah, we were Top 15 in both offense and defense last year (one of only 3 teams along with Connecticut and Houston). We were borderline elite, and maybe things get better when Disu gets back and we have some help side rim protection to go with Shedrick. Edited December 1, 20232 yr by HtownHorn

December 1, 20232 yr Texas finished 13th in adjusted D last year (Kenpom) and I think it was actually better than where we were before Beard went full idiot mode. Or it was right around the same ranking. @SalJust making shit up.

December 1, 20232 yr I don’t want to bash the kid but this team is going to be much better when Onyema is playing sparingly as a 3rd big behind Shedrick/Disu. All the dude does is foul and run around aimlessly. Edited December 1, 20232 yr by Hookem2147
December 1, 20232 yr RT also needs to blow out teams before he starts experimenting. Texas State went on that run when we were up 22 with RT playing a horrendous offensive lineup including Weaver, Johnson, Mitchell, and Shedrick together. 1 shooter on the court. Once you let teams think they have a chance the game flips.
December 1, 20232 yr Weird First 8 minutes and last 11 minutes UT 53 - Tx St 12 Middle 21 minutes Tx St 46 - UT 24

I think he got up 22 and thought he could just start playing everybody.
December 1, 20232 yr I think a 9-9 conference season and a first round exit is gonna be about it for this team, Disu or no Disu.
December 1, 20232 yr That was messed up but I still enjoyed it. Basketball on November 30 is a learning experience.

The Big 12 is really good at the top again but I don't think it's great at the bottom. K-State, Texas Tech, UCF, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Iowa State all look like they have some major issues.
December 1, 20232 yr This is a weird year for the Big 12. Normally, it's the depth that makes it an insane conference. I think this year there are more elite teams but there are also 6 or 7 teams that might not make the tournament.
December 1, 20232 yr It’s impossible and silly to try to predict the future for this team right now. More often than not March comes down to guard play, interior defense and how favorable of a draw you get style wise. We are missing a player who is pretty damn important of the middle part of that equation.
