Romain Grosjean back in a Lotus

Damn

I was curious what that car would be like

Looked like the driver never even tried to counter-steer.  Just rode that shit all the way into the barrier...

What, the actual fuck, happend here?

Answer: light malfunction at the worst time in the worst way.

Penalty ocon

Omg the zoom out! Lolololol

Reportedly Newey to Ferrari isn’t going to happen. If the bolded part of the story is accurate… I mean, it seems to me that Ferrari NEED someone to override the system in the company. Especially someone who has designed cars that have won [checks notes] 12 Constructors and 12 Drivers Championships. Likely 13 after this year.

“Sources close to Ferrari have told BBC Sport that chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna has baulked at the level of salary Newey commands and that there is a concern he would have too much power and could override the system inside the company.

“Senior sources in the sport say that Newey is actively engaged with Aston Martin at the moment, and that this is looking his most likely destination. McLaren remain another possibility.

“Newey, meanwhile, is said not to have made up his mind where to go.”

I feel like in a few years, that will be viewed as a yuge fuck-up by Ferrari.  Just one in a line of many recently, especially on race day.

Lewis is like....

sigh-fuck.gif

Wouldn't want the guy who has designed 2 different cars that blew away the rest of the grid having too much power in a racing team.  He might do something crazy and build a really fucking fast car.

But this is precisely why Ferrari is what it is.  That completely incestuous internalized culture.

Look back to times when an outsider came in and shook it up--  Michael Schumacher or Nikki Lauda-- and good things happen.

But no, can't have that.  Too much winning is bad for the kids.  Or something.

I was hoping the Newey to Williams rumors were true. Just to see if he could get them back on top.

That is the most Ferrari thing I've ever read.  Oh, noes!  Our system!

Ferrari deserve all the misery they inflict upon themselves.  It really does make it easy to root against them.

In Ferrari's defense, Newey has never proven that he can build a car capable of winning on Plan L, modifier 3.

So is Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 about to lose a sponsor? :)

Well, rumor has it that Mercedes couldn't get their cars fired up for FP1 today.

I saw a pic of the Mercedes pit wall that had most of their monitors with a bsod.  I hope it was real.

How it started:

”Tell Lance my brake balance suggestion. It’s a good help.”

How it’s going:

Checo, gracias por todo!

Tremenda leyenda!

Adiós amigo.

I hope it’s Sainz they pick up.

would love to see a real driver to compare Checos performances of the last few years in the second seat

Russell out after Q1. So is Perez, who didn’t have a time to go through, and the two Alpine cars.

Q1, Perez into the wall. Hard smack on the car.

Stick a fork in him.

Tired Over It GIF by Jonas Mosesson

Yeah he just needs to walk at this point. They pay him out and he flips to like the fucking Williams for the rest of this year.

He can't recover. If he drives well in the RB then they will blame it on the car and him being ok but if he goes and drives the doors off the Williams he shows he can actually do it and maybe gets a seat next year?

At least he has the "they didn't fuel it enough" excuse

Norris on pole with just under 7-minutes to go. A light drizzle happening.

Max is second.

Yuki and Danny Ric in Q3 is a good day for them.

Red Flag. Yuki with a bit of an ugly crash.

just over two minutes to go.

Should be enough time for another go.

McLaren front row. Nice. Max in 3rd, Sainz 4th

Hamilton and then LeClerc in 5th & sixth.

Well done McLaren and Norris. Piastri is really good, too.

Lando Norris GIF by McLaren

Russell was 15 places behind Lewis in Q1.  Wtf?

Yuki's wreck really messed up the last 2 minutes of qualifying that would have been fun.

Is RB ever going to do anything about Perez? What videos does he have of Horner?

The only guy left was Lando. It was over if Yuki didn’t crash.

I’d rather it be a video of Mrs. Horner, that eventually gets leaked.

Alonso was on his hot lap as well, but he wasn't threatening for pole. Might have improved though.

ETA: And Fernando was pissed. They red-flagged a T8 incident instantly, when he was in the final turn on a quicker lap. Then they directed him into Parc Ferme prematurely.

Max fucking up a corner again and gaining a spot.

I don’t think that it was cool that Norris practically drove Piastri into the wall on the start. The ruling on Max seems to make sense in giving back the spot to Norris.

It's gonna be boring most likely.  It's hard to pass here.  Lando is real bad on starts.  It's even money that he's gonna get passed on the first lap when he's on poll.
