Better cut the pizza into six slices, because I'm not hungry enough to eat eight.

And today is the day I learned this gal posts on Surly:

Quitter

Brad's girlfriend is about to get really Brit-large, because she apparently eats 8 slices of pizza when she goes to their favorite pizza joint.  Come on, Brad, wake up.

The salt is a killer. I eat pizza and then a few hours later have the urge to guzzle a gallon of water.

well, it's important to be properly hydrated regardless, eh?

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose ability to ingest massive amounts of pizza pie has diminished over the years.

In high school, when I was playing basketball and my metabolism was cooking like a blast furnace, I ate 29 pieces of pizza at a Gattis buffet, with two plates of salad, three bowls of pudding, and lord only knows how many sodas. I regretted it for about two hours.

I would kill an entire Hot-and-Ready for our pre-game meal before football games. Probably one of the many contributing factors to me riding the bench, along with being small and slow.

Now, yes. I couldn't keep weight on then.

Early mid 20s me made Kent Tekulve look obese and I'd put away 4 wings/rolls, fries and a cherry pie on my break back in my Church's days.

Used to crush the Gatti's buffet on MLK back in the day.  Failed Math 305G, so I don't have an accurate slice count.

Last week, ate five slices of the Double Dave's Pizza of the Month (the Naughty Dave).  But that's a smallish Medium thin-crust.  Had the remaining three slices for breakfast the next day. #csb

The correct answer is how many pieces has the pizza been cut into? Whatever that number is, is the correct answer!

Reminds me that I used to go to Double Dave's buffet on Saturday at the Castilian to watch football and put away pizza. I'm not sure how I walked back home after that.

I can eat a Papa John's large in one sitting. This? I'm lucky if I can finish two slices. Shit be fillin'

Eating a whole one of those would be like eating a whole 13x9 lasagna.

We used to have eating contests there. A few of us did one before the first day of baseball practice. I puked on the right field foul pole. I wasn’t the only one.
I won the contest though.

Kind of works like a churrascaria with waiters walking around with various pies. We went fairly soon after it opened here in austin, and it was hit or miss depending on the pie. We all agreed we'd probably rather hit double Dave's, if only for the pizza roll option. But it's been pre-covid since I've hit up DD's, so it's possible they've gone to shit as well.

Man was not made for defeat

Interesting, I thought it was just me. We have a nice place by the house that makes a great pie. But these days 2 slices and I’m good. I’m an old, but damn I used to be able to put pizza away.

I can vouch that pizza rolls are still good as ever. Although the DD's I go to seems weird. It's a full restaurant, but literally no customers are ever there when I visit. It's just the counter staff and it's been that way for a while now.

Does Double Dave's still do a buffet? I know they took it away during Covid, but I took my kid to the one by our house (on Metric) last year and they didn't have it.

Since COVID, I went to the one way south (Slaughter?), and they had the buffet.

These days, we mostly get our pepperoni rolls when we pay stadium price to get an order of 3 at Q2. Which is plenty for me nowadays.

Man, I haven't been to a Double Dave's in years, ever since they closed the one on Mesa Drive.  Those pizza rolls were legit, especially on $1 night.

Yep, on those nights, my wife would pick up a couple of dozen - we'd have a treat for dinner, and then the kids would get pepperoni rolls as their lunch once or twice later that week.

  • 11 months later...

Didn’t see a regular pizza thread so I’m dropping this here. Wife got a clean bill of health on her poop chute exam this morning, Doc wouldn’t take my word for it, so she wanted pizza in celebration, 4-cut cheese and 4-cut EBA…

Someone on DFW radio the other day said the average American consumes 180 slices/year. Are you kids over or under?

Under, but if I gave up on life, I could go over easily.  My younger son is a sporadic eater and is pretty thin, but will regularly put away an entire pizza for dinner.

Avoiding carbs these days, but put a Conan's whole wheat Savage with anchovies and japs in front of me -- there is no telling what I might do.

When I hit my late 30s pizza just didn't sit right anymore.  I'd eat two slices and just feel it sitting like a block of wet dough.  Just made me feel nasty.  Nothing else has the same effect.

No sooner had I posted than my wife and son brought home a pizza.  3 slices and 2 garlic cheese bites.

Oink, oink, my good man!

Depends on the crust, tonight the crust is a bit thicker, heavier than NY style thin crust so we both only ate 2 slices each and we average about 3x a month for pizza plus she'll get a couple slices at work just about every week. A hearty but respectful fuck you to the poster above mentioning Conan's savage on wheat.

My only limit is the amount of sodium I can intake before I stroke out.

I'm not even close to that.  Maybe 6 slices a month (72 per year).

You people need to mix in a salad now and again.

After church in the 90s our youth group would go to the Gattis on Lake Creek in north Austin.  They had a buffet we would murder, a large screen tv room and a decent arcade for teens.

Then one night a week we'd head to the Double Daves also off of Lake Creek and eat our weight in pepperoni rolls.

God those were the days.

I'll get a large cut into 4 slices instead of 8 so as not to feel I eat too much...
