This fucking juggernaut beat 1-5 Arizona State 15 to 7 with a fortunate pick six in the 4th quarter at home.  Scares you to death.

We played like fucking morons in that game. The weather was atrocious, and we were bombing it downfield like it was 75 and sunny. We played like shit in a bunch of games in the middle of the season. We suck at throwing the ball in the rain, and I wanted our OC fired at numerous points because he refused to adjust his strategy. If our offensive game plan is anything like the ASU, Stanford, or WSU games, we’re fucked. They refused to let us throw deep, and we stupidly kept trying to. If we do what we did against Oregon in the championship game and take what the defense gives us, I think we win.

My prediction....if we score a TD every time we get in the red zone, we beat Washington by double digits. I will be in the Seattle area this holiday season. I’m not betting on Texas points or no points. W is the toughest matchup for us.

They were the one team of the 4 other CFP contenders I didn't want to face because of Penix. I have no idea how he'll fare in the NFL but he's exactly what you want in a college QB & he's going up against the weakest part of our team. If we can't get consistent pressure with only the DL we may have to score 40 just to have a chance. That said, if UW fans are expecting the same UT team from last year to show up they're going to be sadly disappointed. Worthy dropping everything, Casey fucking Cain being our leading WR, Brooks on 1/2 a leg & Krob rushing for all of 45 yards. I understand they've upgraded as well but this years team beats the Alamo Bowl UT team by 3 TDs.

So long as Sark isn't trying to get our guys read with the BS he tried in the cotton bowl "Hey, we're so lucky to be able to compete on this glorious field with this fine weather." la-tee-da bullshit & it's more along the lines of what we've seen the last 2 weeks where we're just in complete "fuck you" mode I think we'll be fine. If someone on the Washington DL or OL could give us some bulletin board material that'd be nice.

Hasn’t Sark already made a couple comments that make it sound like he’s just happy to have made the playoff? I thought in his interview on ESPN after the selection, he barely stopped himself from saying Texas is playing with house money, which is part of the HH lexicon after he famously said that after UW got to 6 wins in one of our magical 7 win seasons under him.

It would be one thing if Washington was trouncing everyone 56-17 but they didn’t. They literally didn’t beat anyone by more than 10 the last 9 games. I think it will be a good game and we pull away by 14 to close the game out. I’m beyond confident we have a better defense than Oregon and Washington didn’t score anything that should cause a panic. But that’s just me, I look at the schedule and see the facts on the field.

We actually see him as genuine, likable, transparent guy who understands how to build a program. more now a saban disciple than a 30 something year old green behind his ears jock. He has his weaknesses, but you aren’t even close to touching on them. You can hate all you want but it comes off pretty clueless. The guy turned Texas around in 3 years. It took our legends more than 5 years before they even won the conference let alone competed for a championship. We have damn good reason to be satisfied. Hell our best sark team probably won’t even take the field for 2-3 more seasons.

I love how this Washington guy comes on Surly bragging about how crazy and vulgar his “hard core husky” board is.  He’s about to learn a few things about us……

If he's still spouting off "just happy to be here" & not "we came here to prove a point" then I'll start getting worried. Beating a scrappy and well coached Iowa State on the road doesn't move the needle. We know those are tough games but nobody else does or cares.

SEC and Bama are all anybody cares about so yeah we are going to bring that up. And yeah we did something nobody had ever done before.

As for whether we would lose the hypothetical bowl, well we are notoriously bad in imaginary games. A&M has a 12 year streak over us in hypothetical bowls.

But in real games, we won. So we will have to rely on that.

1) Talking shit about intellect and academics on the board of a university that outranks your own by virtually every metric is weak shit.

2) No one gives a fuck about whether or not someone else thinks we're "classy". We've been villainized across the college football landscape for years, whether we're winning or losing, for a bunch of ridiculous shit beyond our control because of the size of our brand and the program's long history.

3) We all think UW is a nice school and the brand and history are quaint. It would be fun to have a home and home series with UW. We respect the team and what they've done this year. That considered, you're coming across as a pathetic ambassador for UW. Don't tell us you're not trolling when it's obvious that you're trolling. If you want to discuss football, get on with it. If you keep up the other shit, at least ask your home board for some help on the humor side because of your attempts so far are hot garbage. Jesus.

There's no way Penix wins the Heisman unless it's a conspiracy to pump up the playoff. If he does, the award is completely meaningless. He's been clutch as fuck, but he's had too many stinker games this year to deserve the award. I'm not really sure that Daniels deserves it for going 9-3, but his stats are insane. Nix would have been a lock if we hadn't shit on Oregon's dreams in Vegas.

As for media deepthroatings, the next one UW gets this year will be the first since we beat Oregon the first time. All we've heard since the ASU game was how Oregon was really better than us and was going to kick our ass in the P12CG. I've seen very few media pundits picking us the last couple days. I've even seen some say we're the TCU of this year's field.

tldr:  This won’t be the same Longhorn team playing Washington, or the same result.

Last year Texas’s 20-27 loss to Washington in the Alamo Bowl was pretty much a microcosm of the Longhorn’s 2022 season. Moments of greatness and the empty feeling of disappointment with so much talent and ability on display. This year the rematch in New Orleans has all the talking heads forecasting a close game and seeing a “shoot out.” These won’t be the same two teams taking the field, however, and Texas has tools to change that outcome.

Washington’s Run Game- Last year it was Taulapapa carving up 108 yards, 42 of that on a breakaway touchdown run. His other 13 carries still netted a 5 yd per carry pop due to multiple factors. Double teams on our tackles were effective and our linebackers frequently got caught up in the wash, made bad read/react moves, or simply were not gap sound. Ford and Dorsey-Tucker didn’t have “bad” games, but it was clear that without Overshown on the field, the communication wasn’t there.

This year it’s Miss St. transfer Dillon Johnson toting the rock to the tune of 1113 yards on the ground for the Huskies. He’s got prototypical NFL measurables and sits just outside the top 25 in the nation for yards carrying the ball. But Texas just faced the #1 rusher in Gordon and shut that shit down. Two weeks prior it was #4 in the nation Tahj Brooks. Brooks did fairly better than Gordon, but the Horns held him to under 100 yards and cruised by Texas Tech. The defensive line of this year isn’t the d line of last year. The linebackers will also be much improved. With a full squad of seasoned players on the field, don’t expect Johnson to run free.

Special Teams- Last year Texas blew a blocking assignment on a punt and gifted Washington a blocked punt, a short field, and an early 3 point lead. It wasn’t a back breaking moment, but these kinds of plays can swing momentum in games.

This year Texas has amped up its special teams play in all facets of the game. If Xavier is back and doing electric things in the punt return game, expect Texas to take advantage of Washington’s average punter. They have also managed to block a few of their own in critical moments this year. The momentum swinging moment on special teams is more likely to come from Texas this year.

Texas Offense- Last year Texas entered the game without generational talent Bijan Robinson and his dynamic duo counterpart Roschon Johnson. Needless to say, Texas suddenly was without an offensive identity and tried to rely on the arm of Q. Ewers without a proven RB to fill those gigantic shoes. Sark tried to give Keilan Robinson the bulk of the leg work, but he showed that feature back was not his calling. Texas ended up with a mere 14 rushing attempts from the RBs. Ewers did have a great game and outpass Penix for a sum of 31/47 369 1. It was just too little, too late.

This year the offense is scary good. An abundance of weapons to throw to, a stable of RBs that pound, pound, pound, and K. Rob burning around the edge. The best TE in college. An O line that just gets better and better. Recent games have shown that the Longhorns are improving in their red zone offense and scoring touchdowns rather than field goals unlike earlier in the season. Texas should mount a very balanced and dangerous attack. Washington is 90th in total defense. Texas faced seven teams ranked higher and averaged 39 points per game this season against those opponents.

Washington’s Pass Game- Penix played great. 32/54 287 2 td 1 int.  He spread the ball around to eight different receivers. He orchestrated two long td drives to extend the lead. He was everything as advertised.

This year the offense is pretty much the same, if not better. He has NFL receivers. Heisman numbers. Quality line. And he won more games than last year, putting them in the final four. He does struggle when pressured and isn’t really a running threat. Expect him to match last year's numbers. He’s a great quarterback who is going to find a way to score. He absolutely lit up the Stanford’s and Cal’s on their schedule, but the four teams he faced with top 50 defenses were tight games and nearly a touchdown below his team’s scoring average.

Texas Defense- Over the year last year, the Longhorn defense was a source of frustration. They improved immensely from their inaugural 2021 season, but still couldn’t seem to put it all together on the field at times. It was clear that key position units were in need of help, but Coach Kwiatkowski’s philosophies were starting to be evident and players were having more success. Players like Barron, Ford, and Sorrell were flashing signs of greatness by the end of the season, but Washington was able to expose a secondary still in transition and a defense that overall had not developed its identity, and was playing without its team captain. They still only managed 27 points.

This year Texas has that identity. There are still positional “holes” that could be filled, but this team plays with a passion. It starts up front, of course, with the best tandem of tackles in the country. Everyone knows what Sweat and Murphy can do to disrupt the run game and pressure passing games from the interior. Texas still lacks an elite pass rusher from the edge, but Ethan Burke is growing into that role and leads the team in sacks. Freshman Anthony Hill is emerging as a force on the field. Ryan Watts is expected back, but striker Malik Muhammad might be the better option attacking the physical Husky receivers. All in all, Coach K has his players communicating much better this year. The turnover ratio is way up. It’s really a team without any “stars” in the backfield, but lots of players who make plays. The obvious weakness this year was with deep balls and missed assignments. With a month to prepare, expect a bend but don’t break scheme, keeping everything in front of you, with plenty of well designed blitz packages to keep Penix guessing. The more attempts he has to make, the more opportunities for errors and takeaways. The Texas game plan for its recent previous opponents, stifle the run and make your team one dimensional, worked soundly. Expect to see it again. Penix could channel his inner-Brady and have a career day against the Longhorns, but he simply has not faced a defense like this yet this year.

In the end, defense wins championships, and Washington’s simply won’t be good enough to keep up with the Longhorn’s aggressive, multi-faceted attacks. They haven’t faced anything like it. Sark is one of the best at exploiting team weaknesses and the Longhorn’s are really peaking at the right time. Expect Texas to score big. On the other side of the ball, the Huskies will get some points, but Texas simply wears down Washington with depth, athleticism, and well-timed aggressiveness.

I mean he lost to Bama last year and we didn't call for his head.

We called for his head after Oklahoma State.

On 12/4/2023 at 3:44 PM, sith_horn said:

I don't know whether passes over the middle, etc. are due to Sark alone, or to Ewers perhaps seeing the field better, going through his progressions and distributing the ball better. Or maybe the OL is doing better at maintaining the pocket's front line? Point being is, I often see foiled plays decried as Sark's poor play calling when often it's simply a failure of execution by one or more players. I might have even been guilty a time or too of that myself. Difficult to see everything going on as a play unfolds. Reviewing film is often revealing.

I definitely think the run game has been adjusted somewhat since Brooks went down, and glad for it.

I'm more concerned about how PK and our secondary handles Washington's passing game than our O against their D. I do recall they defensively schemed us well in the bowl game last season. But much has changed for us offensively since then and we don't have star players sitting this one out. Ewers mo better, OL better, and multiple offensive weapons all over to stress them with.

An additional possibility is that QE's injury, which has made him wary to run (or instructed not to or both) and not get hit hard, has forced a greater degree of pocket presence than he has exhibited previously.

Penix will make some plays but he will spend most of the game on his back like a mattress actress while we have our way in their backfield.
