Mitchell last year. Golden this year. And leaving as a legend in. One season imagine 2-3 seasons of him

One of the most dominant performances by a Texas Longhorn WR in a post season game ever. What a fucking dog.

It's definitely top 3 with Shipley vs Bama in the natty and Roy vs LSU in the cotton.

Given magnitude of the games I'd say this is top the receiver performances

2009 Jordan Shipley vs Bama(National Championship) 10 catches 122 yards 2 touchdowns
2025 Matthew Golden vs Arizona St(CFP Quarterfinal) 7 catches 149 yards 1 touchdown
2003 Roy Williams vs LSU(Cotton Bowl) 4 catches 142 yards 1 touchdown

Don't forget Roy's 39 yd rushing TD

Quan Cosby game beats Roy and Shipley

I've got a feeling this guy may work out.

I meant to post this a year ago but forgot.

Dude is an absolute hoss. Catches with his hands, not body, rarely drops a pass, blocks, and is clutch in every way possible. This dude is a legend.

When we brought him in I didn't care one way or another since he came from UH, but God damn am I glad to be wrong.

Wouldn't say block... That's his only weakness

I've seen a few blocks where he helped propel Blue to some good yards.

Now he's not Wingo who is an absolute monster in the blocking game. Now that dude knows how to use his size to punk people.

wasn't he the one that whiffed on the tackle that caused the hit in the backfield for a safety?  look i'm not blaming him.. he just isn't built to do it

cut him or recruit over him.

Probably a miscommunication with Juan Davis

Yeah, I believe so. He messed up there. I think another player was also in on it, too. Regardless, it was a whiff.

Damn good player.  Glad to call him a Longhorn.

  • 3 months later...

Golden ate it up, G on his chain, and now G on his helmet. I’m going to have to buy a T-shirt once we know his number.

I’ve been buying T-shirts (NFL Shop) for all our guys since Bijan.

Hook’em!!!

From Sark:

Quote

“He showed everyone his speed and explosiveness at the combine, but what a great player Matthew Golden is,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “What I really loved about him was the way he worked, his commitment to his craft and how he got better as the year went on. He came to us from more of an air raid system at Houston, so the transition wasn’t as easy, but the end result was that he was our most productive and reliable receiver.”

“He’s a fantastic player. Matt showed everyone how fast he was with that 40 time, but his short area quickness, how he gets in and out of breaks makes him truly elite. He has extremely strong hands, makes contested catches, can do it at all three levels – whether it’s the short game, the intermediate, the deep balls – and he’s at his best in the most critical moments. You top that off with the blue-collar attitude he has, the fact that he’s a great teammate who you can really count on day in and day out, that’s what really separates him. He works, he’s no nonsense, he’s tough and does the dirty work blocking linebackers, safeties and event defensive ends. All in all, I think this guy is getting all that he deserves, and Green Bay is going to love him.”

There is no way, even in the world of Shedeur hype, that Golden gets that draft position as a Cougar.

Young Mister Golden got a hell of a lot more than just NIL buckage as a result of his transfer to Texas.

Watching Scott Van Pelt on ESPN after their draft coverage, he separately interviewed Herbstreit and Saban. When he essentially asked each their favorite picks of Rd 1, Saban said Golden and Herbstreit said Jahdae Barron.

C on Banks and B on Barron? Fuck this guy. Also, the Golden moment was amazing (but I'm a pack fan).

Go Pack Go!

You couldn't script that any better. For Green Bay, for Matthew Golden, and for Texas!!!

It's incredible the turn around that Sark has done here. For the longest time, good Texas players simply were not getting the respect that they should have. How many undrafted Longhorns ended up on NFL teams. The players had talent. The GMs just didn't respect Texas players to draft them or drafted them much lower than they should have been. That's all on the previous coaching staffs going back to Mack's FUPM years.

I read the long form article on The Athletic website, and he said the C was based on the Saints needs, not on Banks as a player.

True, but he also seemed pretty meh on Banks as a top ten guy. It was a real "it's not about the player... But I also don't love the player"

That is a little better, I guess. I, as we all do, watch a lot of college football. I still find it strange that Banks wasn't the first OL off the board. Did he get beat? Yes. Was it often? Hell fucking no.

Edit: the one before literally looked like a T-rex. All body, no arms.

I can’t imagine what Golden would have looked like if he had a qb who could throw a deep ball than me/Quinn Ewers.

To be fair, he was nails at those mid level throws that Ewers was actually good at. His hands ripping that TD in from the Arky DB were so good.

He was.  He was also open deep plenty.  Didn’t matter.  Quinn is the worst deep ball Texas qb in the last couple decades.  Case McCoy was more accurate downfield.
