There are about 4 of us who know where that is.  LOL.

Wait until I tell you Edna from Loop lived most of her life in Fluvanna after doing a short stretch in Rhineland.

Wonder if she ever dated a Goree Wildcat?

Boerne HC going to Arkansas as senior analyst. Good SA area job available.

Dude had an attitude problem, at least the day I officiated one of his JV (A/B) games vs Somerset. I was the Referee working a “diminished” crew, as usually we had a crew of 4 working 5-6A JV games.

Now the kicker is that both my kids attended Boerne HS and I basically lived within a 3Wood distance from the HS property. Hell, my Son is on a mural (in the Gym) representing Boerne Boys/Girls athletics, as he was a Boerne HS Golfer.

Anyways, this was like CH’s first or second year of coaching in Boerne and I really didn’t know him, as my kids were out of school, plus my wife was a Boerne teacher. So COI considerations, I couldn’t officiate either Boerne schools varsity games, but only sub-varsity, as my wife taught elementary school.

First JV-B game, Dude walks out to the hashes to complain about my Left (visitor side) wing official calling holding on his left side WR 3-4 times. We’re talking 1st Qtr!
As I’m walking to reverse the field and he wouldn’t shut up! I responded with, if we’d have four officials maybe that would’ve helped, but I’m looking at the LOS and where the ball is, so that has my attention. I also said, if that “experienced” official “saw” it, I’ll take his word.

I’m still walking past mid-field and he’s still in my ear. He’s in street clothes, so I basically turn to him and say that I don’t even know who the Hell you are, but if you’re a Boerne Coach of any sort, I’m about to get you escorted out of the stadium! So he’s getting red/pissed at an official talking to him like that and he responds with I’m the Varsity HC.

I basically calmed him down at mid-field and said, nice to meet you, both of my kids were Greyhounds and if you don’t get off MY field in 30 seconds, you will be ejected from the stadium! And I also have the AD’s # in my phone, as he asked annually for a minimum of $500 each Fall for Boerne Athletics, as my son was a golfer. You are embarrassing Boerne Athletics with your display tonight. He turned and left.

Hook’em!!!

Between that night and the next season of officiating sub-varsity games, 7-JV, the abhorrent attitude of coaches and spectators took the “fun” out of it. I used to love doing 7th-8th grade games, as I’d do more “coaching” than officiating. Trust me, we’d have to swallow the whistle or we’d never finish a game.

Varsity games for me were numb, crowd/coaches wise, as I was an Umpire for many years (right behind the LBs) in the middle of the field. I loved Texas HS Friday nights in the Fall, but the spirit left me and thinking I’d just take a year off to “regroup/focus” I’d come back.

I found that I liked watching Game Day on Saturday at 8, instead of doing a Freshman A-B and getting home at HT of a (11:00 KO) Longhorns game at 12:30. The $$$ wasn’t really worth the time and effort.

Last FB season, I kind of missed the Friday Nights, but the rest ruined the fun and made it more like an obligation.

Hook’em!!!

They play freshman games on Saturday mornings now? No wonder participation fell off

Yes - too many schools with too few stadiums. Most Fr-JV games are on the HS campuses, but time restraints force many to Saturday. My last season I worked 5 sub-varsity Saturdays, not counting the two Varsity games that are usually afternoon/early evening games. Too many SA schools and fewer HS Stadiums. We’d even started doing Varsity games on Thursday night, at least 6-8 years ago.

Hook’em!!!

Yes - and TASO membership has decreased statewide each year for the past 5+ years. It’s got to the point where the newer officials (
Hook’em!!!

MFG - TAPA.

Most newer officials, less than 8 years exp, in the SA area and state wide are expected to work 3-4 days a week, to include Saturday.

TASO is thin statewide, as I stated earlier, where we used to have 4 for 5-6A JV games, we were glad to have three. I’ve worked multiple Jr High games with two officials.

I coach a couple of youth basketball teams and have had "mostly" good luck with parents and officials. Only have 1 tech and 1 dad jump a table to fight me in 10 seasons.

They advertise over the PA during our varsity games the need for officials and the steps needed to become one.

I read an east texas message board, and a thread was starting about a week ago about this possibly happening with some stuff that may have happened with him.  Nobody ever said exactly what, but the thread had lots of chatter.

I remember posting on that in HS in mid 2000s to late. Also 3adownlow/texasfownlow, it’s a shame Matt stepp and Matt Diggs gave sold/gave ownership of that to who they gave it too. Shit was worse than hornfans with moderation after that. Killed a great small school community message board. Pretty sure that’s where I met @Pancho who invited me to shaggy.

Not sure where to put this but San Antonio Harlan runner Tate Taylor won the 100M at State with an unbelievable 9.92.

The kid from Duncanville that's been lighting it up all spring ran 10.01 and lost. 10.01 in high school and you lose

https://m.facebook.com/reel/1602675970352619/?referral_source=external_deeplink&mibextid=Ls6BEq

There is a freshmen that ran 10.1, Tate is a junior, the 3A kid who ran 10.12 is a junior, just insane speed coming out of Texas these days.

7th-place finisher Elijah Clark was a backup RB for Westlake, behind some backs who were fairly average.  Didn't see the field all that much - didn't seem to have very good field vision for whatever reason.

Trophy Club Byron Nelson football coach Travis Pride died unexpectedly, Northwest ISD said Wednesday night.

Pride was 56. He had been the head coach at Byron Nelson since 2016 and had a record of 60-45 in nine seasons, including 32-6 over the last three years as Byron Nelson became an elite Class 6A team.

He was the second head football coach in school history. His Byron Nelson teams broke the school record for most wins in a season three years in a row, going 9-4 in 2021, 11-2 in 2022 and 13-1 with a regional final appearance in 2023.

He was the head coach at Mansfield Summit from 2009 to 2015 and was 48-32 there, including 10-2 in 2011 and 2015. He also spent three years as the head coach at Wichita Falls from 2006 to 2008 and had a career record of 124-94.

Pride was an assistant coach under Todd Dodge on Southlake Carroll’s state championship teams in 2004 and 2005.

What a gutshot.  Dude had a great career.  Was respected by the community and fellow coaches.

RIP.  You never freaking know...
