Remembering hearing from some Westlake folk he was even better than Colton. Though Reese Wise seems like an interesting prospect. He’s certainly gotten better in the pocket and the dude can run. Conner Vasek got injured fairly early in the season and has not seen that much of the field. He's one of the guys headed to Air Force. Wise throws a nice ball from a clean pocket to an open receiver. He rarely looks to the second option and he doesn't have much wiggle or speed as a runner, but he's a decent power runner for a QB. I've been discouraged by his lack of decision making development through the season. I expect he'll get some recruiting attention to a second- or third-tier school just based on arm and size. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him end up as a TE at the next level. Fwiw, I don't see any interesting walkons coming out of this WL team.
December 9, 20241 yr Lol at Westlake fans complaining about only having 4-5 college players on the roster, even at an academy or walk-on level. The majority of high school teams have one player of that caliber a year if they’re lucky. By my count my old high school (6A mind you) has had 3 guys play college football in the past 5 years combined. 2 D3 players and one current walkon at Texas State
December 9, 20241 yr From the time I was in 6th grade through senior year, my school had one guy go play DT for TCU and another go the West Point that never played. In that time span we beat Art Briles Stephenville, Todd Dodge's Carroll and Grapevine the year after they won state

You can’t choose what division you play in, that’s determined by final district standings. Desoto was 6A by enrollment until this most recent realignment, where they foolishly opted to stay in 6A. They’ve experienced almost unheard of enrollment loss in recent years (3300 students as recently as 2016 vs 2100 and now). Their days of being a power are over unless they move down to 5A next realignment.

FYI- before you start in on the name, it's a lot more canyon related than some of the other "Canyon" named schools in Texas

Westlake does have a huge number of players in their system and we have supporting families w money and can focus on off-season strength programs, private coaching etc, but there is a visible size discrepancy between our players and theirs especially with the lines. We just can't match their physicality just as so many schools can't match ours. For the last two years, they have worn us down in the second half.
