Well, to counter this, a lot of people don't recognize Westlake's underrated diversity - they're roughly 50% female.

There's soccer moms, yoga moms, pilates moms, spin moms. It's truly a melting pot

I would still coach him to get into the end zone.

So Westlake, with 2700 students, plays North Shore (4,600 students) or if we somehow win, maybe Duncanville (4,500). Obviously, Westlake has financial resources that neither school can match, but money can only get you so far when it comes to actual numbers. The system isn't working for us.

I thought this was a bit, but you keep going with it. Westlake just needs to recruit better or open a second high school to dominate 5ADII.

On the serious side, I do think that some of these schools with gargantuan enrollments are not serving their districts well. When you have 4000 students to max your football potential, you take opportunities away from the other 95% of the student body. I'd rather my kids go to high school in a district with 3x 1400 schools, or even 2x 2100, instead of a 4200.

The UIL should find a way to incentivize smaller enrollments for the benefit of all Texans. Maybe the top 24 enrollments are now 7A, idk.

Maybe the big schools need to run intramural football and recruit for their UIL teams from their own farm leagues.

agreed, would be good for everyone involved. You now have teams in districts where all their opponents have 1/2 their enrollment. Those games aren't fun for anyone on either side.  They shouldn't be in a district where their enrollment is more than double everyone else. Winning shouldn't be the primary goal for any high school sports program.

Agreed. 4,000-6,000 (Plano high schools) is crazy.  7,000+ students at Allen HS is insanity, although they have a separate campus for freshman.

The thing about Allen HS is you have the choice to not live in Allen. Frisco ISD is right next door and has a dozen high schools under 2000 kids

Desoto should’nt have opted up to 6A

So what is your rationale to Desoto being the reigning back to back State Champions and making the qtr finals this year with that same enrollment?

Because you saying they’re non competitive doesn’t compute.  If teams aren’t out here to do well in the playoffs, then what’s the goal?

We already did this bullshit drill with 6A and using 2 divisions.

Some a y’all have the attitude’ Let’s fucking break shit…just because’

The one rule that needs to change is if you transfer schools, you lose a year of eligibility. Classification size is not a problem in Texas.  recruiting is.

I'm pretty sure they don't have the same enrollment and that's why they were going to be 5ad1 but they opted up and UIL granted them that this year.

I still have Westlake winning this weekend. NS is not as good as last year and still has the same uncreative attack on offense. I have a hard time imagining that working on Westlake for 3 straight years. I do think Duncanville wins it all though.

I just called my bookie and put $10k on North Shore.  Thanks Helo!

Westlake is only in the D1 bracket because Bowie somehow managed to lose late in the season against Austin High.   Would Westlake have been favored in D2 vs Summer Creek?  Would they have gotten past Vandegrift in quarters?  Probably better chances than against the remaining D1 schools, but this is is one if the least potent WL offenses in recent memory.

Nah. North Shore is on another level. They don't have to be that creative to beat us. They just wear you down and then overpower and outrun you in the second half. Should be a great game between them and Duncanville.

Also Austin High is smallest school in district (or at worst second smallest) so spare me any hand wringing about a school having to play someone with more enrollment. Westlake beat Lake Travis twice and LT has ~900 more kids than Westlake.

you have not watched the chaps this year then. qb redefines mediocre and the offense overall is pretty putrid. north shore rolls.

Not complaining, just noting how arbitrary the D1/D2 lines can be in 6A.  I don't think a lot of people had AHS beating Bowie.   If you look back at what I wrote, you might see that I'm not sure that Westlake would have done any better this year in D2 (and not sure that they would have beaten Vandy in the QF).   I think they've hit their ceiling either way - out in the semis.  For this team, that's a pretty good accomplishment.

This is correct. A better QB would give them a shot, but they roll with what they have.

As an aside, did anyone see the "don't talk to me during games" FB post the QBs dad wrote a few months ago?

It's Westlake's 8th straight year in the semifinals, which is an terrific accomplishment. I'll have to be happy with that this year, along with getting to talk crap w/ my Lake Travis friends and clients one more year.

Would have loved to have Westlake play Vandegrift in the quarter-finals. I think we would have beaten them, but alas, the Football Gods did not smile upon us this year.

Yepper.  We need set those Eagles down on a nest.  They got an easy 3 yd TD early, otherwise Tigers would probably have a 7 point lead.  I see that Ganado is winning by 20.  I have some memories of those guys.

Anyone seen Boerne play? Soph qb Hendrix has insane stats- 5600 yds 63 tds 6 int 70+% comp including his playing time as a freshman.  Listed at 6'2" 170 and coach's kid.

Denton Ryan up early 14-0 on Highland Park, lots of football left.

Contrary to some, I like watching games where the broadcast team is so blatantly biased.  The HP guys are doing this game.  The color guy refers to the team as we, yells out 'There it is' or 'Come on now Let's go', and claps when HP gets a stop.   funny stuff.

That's good high school football announcing.

It's like choosing the opposing team's broadcast in baseball.  Nobody expects those guys to be "objective."  The homer-isms are part of the appeal.

HP stormed back with a TD, but had the XP blocked.  14-6 Ryan.  Scots moving the ball easily on the ground and via the air.  Ryan had a pick-six that hurt.
