Not unheard of, but let's just say the mentality is different, and that includes smaller 2A schools.

The level of participation is amazing.  You are expected to play unless you just hate football and 'Merica.

I dare any state to find someone who knows as much about its football as Greg Tepper knows about Texas high school football.

We don’t talk enough about how Shiner High School gets their own personalized Shiner Bock logo that they use for their helmets.

Hell of a football game! I thought monster special teams were almost perfect, except for the onside penalty on the PAT, and they were the difference in the game!

Hope tomorrow can match tonight‘s games intensity

no disrespect to 6Man, but this game kicked off the championship weekend

damn good start to things

Maybe I’m misremembering things, but feels like 6-man state championship games are overwhelmingly non-competitive.

their two games today were both 'mercy rule'

Per Stapp on the postgame, Shiner only has 5 Seniors, one of whom is the QB/ DB, but...

Another rocking day of High School football on tap for today:

2A-D1  Stamford vs Ganado     11:00am

3A-D2 Gunter vs Woodville       3:00pm      Gunter defending state champions

3A-D1  Malakoff vs Columbus   7:00pm      Malakoff defending state champions

Really looking forward to the Malakoff vs Columbus game, seeing if Grayson Rigdon can get his 3rd state championship against the defending state champions, should be a good one

Malakoff

One of my favorite Texas town names. Love a good Crimean War reference.

a few of you guys have mentioned north crowley being significantly undersized for a state champ game team. don't they have one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the nation for next year's class?

cunningham ain't little at lb.

Those posters are simultaneously jealous and in denial of DFW's status as the epicenter of bigtime football in this state.

After North Texas goes 3-0 this Saturday they will transition to their yearly whining about Jerryworld and suggest we go back to the good old days of playing state championships in freezing weather in front of no fans

#1576

also, i grew up in east texas and my grandmother lived in woodville. i can not recall a single time in history that they have had a competitive football team and now they have stomped their way to a state championship appearance. does anyone know what's up with them and where this came from? do they have a dominant stud at qb or rb or something? did they unwittingly hire some program builder of a coach with a bright future?

What are we arguing? IMO Jerryworld is fantastic for the state games no matter what region of the state wins the most titles. Also Jerry does a fantastic job(surprising to say this) of giving UIL a very very nice discount.

Ty Robinson is from good football stock and has coached the Eagles since 2016.  To your point, before this season, they were 8-25 alltime in the playoffs. The last 4 seasons they have finished 8-3, 7-4, 9-3, & 8-4 respectively.  Each of the last 3 seasons, they have bowed out in the 2nd round of the POs.

I have made it  a point NOT to bitch about Jerry world, because it is a very special experience for the players.  As a fan, I couldn't disagree more.  $20 for game tickets is bullshit.  If we're talking the 3 games for $20,  Being locked in( no come and go) privileges is bullshit, especially if you consider a family of four and the realistic costs from 11AM to 10 PM for meals, parking, and everything. It is $25 for nachos and a pepsi.

It's fucking high school football, not Disney.

All the participants benefit greatly from it located at one spot because of revenue splits. $20 for 3 games is great, who gives a shit if you can't come and go as you please.

1. I acknowledged the win for the schools.

2. If I am just coming to see my school play, $20 is by far the highest price of the season for any game.  Again, a family of 4 is a reasonable sized family unless you're Tyreek Hill or Phillip Rivers.

3.  Being locked in for wildly overpriced concessions is stupid. If you extend the value of the ticket across 3 games, then honor it as such.

If your school is playing for a state championship then $20 shouldn’t be a problem no matter if solo for family of four. Especially if it’s your schools first time or a perennial powerhouse. It’s the state fucking championship

Those Westlake kids look like they all come from the same family.  Might have taken one picture and just tweaked it back and forth.

jerryworld sucks
As a stadium, correct. But for a site for all the state games, it's perfect. They wanted to rotate but when they moved it to Houston, it was a terrible experience. Houston's stadium is even worse than Jerry World. And the location isn't good as a central location for those games.
#1593

curious on concessions pricing this week. jerry world and four days of state championship football are the perfect match

easily one of the best weeks of the year
