It's the weak link when you fall and extend your arms Yep, most people I know who have spent a significant amount of time riding or racing bicycles has been through broken clavicle experience. I broke my right collarbone twice racing BMX as a teenager, then my left one racing a TMBRA mtb race in my 30s. They were all very painful, but took longer to heal when I was older. On the that last time I had even leaned how to fall correctly when crashing, didn’t extend my arms, and still landed just wrong enough to snap it from my sternum. Those kept me from meaningful riding and training for at lest a month or 6 weeks. I couldn’t Tyler Hamilton my way through it.
March 30, 20241 yr Team EF going with retro kits for Flanders. I don’t usually like gimmicky stuff like random retro looks, but I don’t hate this.

March 31, 20241 yr van der Poel has got to be the favorite. I'd have said it was a three race between him and Pedersen and Wout, but Wout's out and I'm not sure about Pedersen after the wreck.

March 31, 20241 yr Long way home still, but surprised they’re letting Pedersen get up to 30 seconds gap
March 31, 20241 yr I mean like the eurosport guys said maybe teams want pedersen to ride outfront and burn some matches
March 31, 20241 yr It was bound to happen at some point, but when he goes, it’s still something to see. Good for Matteo to stay in sight and relevant.

April 1, 20241 yr Yea I mean like the eurosport guys highlight he is just so symmetrical and fluid on the bike.

April 4, 20241 yr Author I don't think I've ever seen all the favorites go out in one crash like that. Jonas, Roglic, Remco all done. Even Rigo was in it

April 4, 20241 yr It’s a fair criticism, but cycling has done pretty well on the last few years of installing safety measures on high consequence turns at altitude and descents, especially in the grand tours. It’s a shame that some descents in this race were identified and the concrete culvert on the outboard side of a curve on a known probable high speed decent wasn’t covered by a mat or even cheap mattress. Still, you can’t nerf the whole world.

He could possibly be recovered in time for TdF, but not likely in his usual Tour form. Sucks for Pogacar, too. That dude loves to race and compete. I’m sure he’d be thrilled to get a his third Tour victory no matter what, but beating a diminished Jonas might not be as satisfying. That’s racing, though.
April 4, 20241 yr Author Roglic thankfully no fractures. Remco collarbone and scapula. Jay Vine fractured 3 vertebrae.

April 5, 20241 yr Horrific. Can’t imagine being sent into a concrete culvert at those speeds. F this spring.

It just keeps getting worse. I’ll still watch, of course, but was really hoping to see some great battles with a healthy and revitalized Roglic, along with Remco, Pogi, and Jonas at full strength.

I saw Matty was a PR scratch with only a reference to him not being 100% fit. I wonder if Visma are just being extra cautious? I wouldn't blame them, under the circumstances.
April 5, 20241 yr I'm a little glad that I can no longer ride. Not really, but this is getting ridiculous. Someone better put Pog in bubble wrap.

At least he’s doing LBL instead of Roubaix and doesn’t have to worry about the condition of the pavè, especially Arenberg, which they are saying is in even more shit condition than usual. Let’s hope he stays upright and whole going into those next two big races on his program.
