Or is that what they want him to do? Invoke the Insurrection Act so it will give a future GQP president the cover he needs to invoke it in order to overturn a lost election?

They're not going to need cover or think that they do.

Another less extreme option is for Biden and DOJ to give fair notice to the Texas officers that their further participation in the illegal occupation will place them at risk for civil asset forfeiture and prosecution. The same treatment for RICO defendants. And the same playbook, really. Go after the lower rung people first, get them to flip, rinse and repeat.

There’s no hate like Christian love.

I think the only realistic option is the comment above about federalizing the state guard. Biden is still their commander in chief. If they disobey take them out back for dereliction of duty.

Correct, the United States has always molded Jesus and Christianity to fit it's needs. I had to read this in grad school and it's a great little book on religion and civil religion in the United States.

Most "Christians" have no desire to live Christ-like lives and don't even try outside of going to church to be seen by the other hypocrites.  They think that calling themselves Christians and being seen as such is going to get them the golden ticket to heaven.  That's it.  The only fucking bible verse most are even familiar w/ is John 3:16.

They are true deplorables.

There are a lot of great Christians, and there are a lot of people like you describe.  People who are drawn to Jesus mostly for the promise of an absolution of the sins that they willfully engage in.

maybe if we let the migrants watch fox news, they'll find out what an economic disaster america is, and they'll turn back on their own.

How many Venezuelan immigrants does it take to open up cachapa stands next to the taco stands on every corner?

Republicans are unserious about border solutions:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/senate-deal-border-ukraine-risk-193955679.html

A bipartisan Senate deal to pair border enforcement measures and Ukraine aid faced potential collapse Thursday as Senate Republicans grew increasingly wary of an election-year compromise that Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee, seems likely to oppose.

Senate negotiators have been striving for weeks to finish a carefully negotiated compromise on border and immigration policy that is meant to tamp down the number of migrants who come to the U.S. border with Mexico. But now that negotiations have dragged for weeks, election-year politics and demands from Trump are weighing it down.

No.  Stop.

Greg Abbott is doing this for a reason.  And at the extreme risk (perhaps near-certainty) of stating the obvious, that reason has nothing to do with the border.

Greg Abbott presides over a Texas Republican Party that is in the midst of a civil war.  His attorney general is a criminal who is leading a campaign to primary most of the Republicans in the House who voted to impeach him (which is the majority of them).  Meanwhile, he can't get his legislative priorities passed despite calling four special sessions because--and this is important--nobody in the Legislature gives a shit what Greg Abbott thinks is a priority.  And all the while, the realization sinks in that governor is the highest office he'll ever attain.  But until he leaves, nobody else can move up the ladder.

So to distract from all of that--and that is a lot--he needs an outside boogeyman.  And nothing fits the bill better than the feds.

Look--I'm as anti-treason as anybody.  I think you know that I think treason and insurrection should be met with lead and nooses.  I think there should've been a whole lot more Ashley Babbitts three years ago.

But let's be smart about this.  Abbott is doing this to distract from his own failings, the turmoil in the Texas Republican Party, and the fact that the Republican nominee is an increasingly senile felon, insurrectionist, and rapist.  Don't let him do it.  Certainly don't let him do it over a stupid park in Eagle Pass.

The economy is going great.  And the perception of the economy is coming around to the realization that it is going great.  The challenger is weak.  The fundamentals all favor Biden's reelection.

Let's not do anything to upset that.

Insurrection 2.0

and the orange dumb asses is loving it

Of course they're doing this because they're weak. They're bluffing. Biden should call their bluff. I don't mean by sending the FBI to kick in the doors at the governor's mansion (yet), but he should absolutely send border patrol agents back in to cut and remove the razor wire. Abbott doesn't want his men shooting federal agents and if they do he'll have a shitstorm beyond anything he ever imagined on his hands (this would hopefully also have the bonus of turning border patrol against the GOP's bullshit).

No.

Today, the entire narrative is Romney and McConnell making clear to god and everyone that the Republicans are spiking a deal on border security so that Trump can run on the issue.  They're making clear that the Republican cries of "border crisis" is cynical bullshit.  And to the extent there is a "border crisis," the blame lies with the GQP.

Why would we do anything to get in the way of that?

Because ignoring escalation from the right in hopes they won't further escalate if you just don't engage doesn't work. History has borne that out countless times.  Abbott doesn't want an actual confrontation. He wants Biden to do nothing so he can make Biden look feckless.

And we'll have plenty of time to shoot them all in the fucking face after the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

But for right now, confronting this bullshit plays right into Abbott's hands.

Shooting them all in the face right now would play into his hands. Sending in border patrol to simply do their job (with a fucking hall pass from SCOTUS) would not. Abbott isn't going to order men to fire on them just so he can drown more children in the Rio Grande.

Yeah, if Abbott wants to take a shot at federal agents he can go ahead and do that. I'm sure that'd go real well.

In the meantime, CPB has a job to do and Abbott's goons can stand their and watch with their dicks in their hands.

The Office Thank You GIF

People really don’t seem to realize how much of a bind Abbott is in, and that his career has peaked and is on a decline - he can’t get the legislature to do what he (his donors) really wants no matter how much he threatens them, he can’t stop the TRP from trying to tear itself apart, driven by an Attorney General that will destroy the GOP in Texas in order to get his revenge.  Trump is not showing him any love.  This conflict with the feds is all he has left to distract everybody.

Another strategy would be for Biden to deputize Greg Abbott and put him in charge of border security beginning immediately, announcing that he takes Abbott at his word that the situation will now be completely solved in short order. Ha.
