Don’t know if someone is creating a 2025 thread. Besides the indoor simulator, I’m now going down the rabbit hole of internet video golf instruction. Been at it for two weeks and it’s potentially a game changer. At the very least, i understand the golf swing 50x better than before. I’ve been playing for 50 years but never really sat down and understood the true mechanics of what causes a golf ball to do certain things. I finally do now. I’m kicking myself for not taking the time to figure this out 49 years ago.

Playing a CTGA tourney at Lions. First lifetime ace! Sadly couldn’t see it go in, was behind the raised lip of the short right bunker. 158y, 5 iron.

Played Banff Springs course today.  Shot a 88 so not horrible.  Scenery is amazing.  Plus the wildlife on the course like elk and coyote/wolf (not sure what it was).

I bought his annual membership like 5 years ago and happily renew each year.

Check out speed golf rob on Instagram. He's nuttier than squirrel shit and the posts take a bit to get used too, but he boils things down better than most. Even if it's very unique. And he's not just some psycho. He has a few euro tour guys that he coaches.

I don't know if it's still out there, but the secret in the dirt by elkington was the best online instruction I ever found. I bought the whole course and still refer to it 10 years later.

From various YT videos, Mac seems like a genuinely cool guy. Some of his shot shaping is damn amazing.

He actually played in a Asian Tour event last October. Not surprisingly, I think he finished last. I think he shot in the 80s on first 2 days.

Maybe we just rename this to the "Golf every year" thread?

Name lacks creativity (I'll leave that to you clever folk), but you get my point.

Thread should be called, wait for it......Golf

Played the Ocean course yesterday in Kiawah Island.  Been waiting for months for this round and the weather was mid 40’s, 20 mph winds and pouring rain.   No refunds so we went out and played.  It was pretty miserable even with 4 layers, rain gear, rain gloves, etc….  I think our caddies were wishing we didn’t play.  We had fun but it was fucking miserable out there.  I was in the sand all day long.  Now I want to go back another time and try again with good weather.

Hate that for you. It’s a great course

Yeah its hard enough when the weather is great.

Love that area.

yesterday in a quick 9 holes I

  • putted in from off the green on par 3 2nd (bird)
  • stuck the 3rd shot (PW) to 18 inches on par 5 5th (bird)
  • same on 7 (bird)
  • holed out on 2nd shot from 50 yards (52deg) on par 4 9th (eagle)

That’s ok, I guess.

@4th and 5 that's finominole.  Assuming you broke par?

I pulled my usual routine Sunday.  Mostly consistent, a few amazing shots, and some absolute blow ups.

Amazing punch shot on 1 (par 4), then drained a 30 footer for bird.

Pull the tee shot on 2 (par 3) to a waste area.  Double.

Par on 3 (par 4).

Stick a 6 iron to 5' on 4 (par 4).  Bird.

Drain a 20 footer for bird on 5 (par 5).

So, I'm -1 through 5.  Up and down through the middle, then finish double, par, triple, double for an 82.  Been working to draw the ball more consistently, and that's occasionally turning into a pull hook.  Goal for this year is to minimize my mistakes and get away from those big numbers.

I havent touched under par in like a year. Just been shooting anywhere from 73-83.

Playing Crystal Falls on Friday, and I assume their greens will be all dormant and fast as fuck.

Going to England with college teammates in June. Playing Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham and st Anne’s, Royal Liverpool, Sunningdale old and new, swinley forest, and another not so famous.

We did Ireland a couple years ago: Lahinch, ballybunion, old head, Waterville, Tralee, and Dooks. We had an absolute blast.

Has anyone done both? What should my expectations be? Pretty pumped to play some of the Open rotation courses.
