July 13, 20187 yr Going to London in late Oct to see an EPL game. I've been to London and done most of the touristy stuff so my thought was to spend just a few days there then head to Amsterdam and or Brussels. Was thinking two days in Brussels and 3 days in Amsterdam. Good plan? Is Brussels worth checking out? Should I go somewhere else instead?
July 13, 20187 yr Brussels is OK, but I enjoyed Brugge more. If you have only 2 days for Belgium, that's where I would head.
July 13, 20187 yr the architecture cuisine and language makes you feel like youre in smaller paris, but its cheaper. so why not. 2/3 day mix is good.
July 13, 20187 yr Brussels is an easy train ride from Amsterdam and worth the trip. You could do a day trip from Brussels to Brugge. Brugge is nice, but I enjoyed Ghent more.
July 13, 20187 yr Author I was going to fly from London to Brussels and then train to Amsterdam then fly on miles from AMS home. There is an AA flight from AMS that goes to PHL then onto SAT.

July 13, 20187 yr Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent are all great, you can't really go wrong with any of them. Be sure to have some Westvleteren 12.
July 13, 20187 yr Author Booked. 52k AA miles Oct 25 SAT>DFW>LHR. Arrive at 10am on Friday. Game is either Sat or Sun. Fly to Brussels on Monday/Tuesday train to Amsterdam on Wed/Thurs Sat Nov 3 AMS>LHR>PHL>SAT Edited July 13, 20187 yr by midtown

July 13, 20187 yr Author Anyone want to throw out some hotels and neighborhoods to stay in in London, Brussels and Amsterdam?

July 15, 20187 yr Anyone want to throw out some hotels and neighborhoods to stay in in London, Brussels and Amsterdam?London, it all depends on budget. Amsterdam, stay at the Hoxton. It's on one of the canals and is a really cool hotel.Brussels, Amigo (location is amazing and it's a beautiful hotel) or Dominican.
July 15, 20187 yr Another vote for Hotel Amigo is Brussels. There is no better location and your surrounded by beer and chocolate.
July 16, 20187 yr Author Let me add my theory on hotels when on vacation is that I'm going to almost never be in it other than to sleep, shower and possible screw. I usually go 3 star

July 16, 20187 yr Author Id definitely use aribnb's as well so if folks can just suggest neighborhoods I'd appreciate that
July 16, 20187 yr In Amsterdam I preferred Rembrandt Square and Leidseplein Square for neighborhoods to search, but no clue as to airbnb's in those areas. Also Maastricht is great too, and would almost pick staying their over Brussels, and can't argue against Brugge. Edited July 16, 20187 yr by shnsajax

If you can get a room my real suggestion is to email St. Bernardus (Jackie is who you want to talk too) and see if their B&B has any rooms available. If so you take a train to Poperinge from Brussels which is a cool town and take a Belbus to Watou. From their you can ride a bike or take a Belbus to In De Vrede to drink all the Westvletren you want. Poperinge and Watou are cool tiny towns on the French border. The B&B has a beer fridge free to drink from and just a great place in the middle of nowhere.
July 17, 20187 yr Definitely do an AirBnB in both places. We stayed in an AirBnB just 4 blocks from Grand Place in Brussels and I think we paid less than $150/night.

With two days I'd much rather spend them in a bigger city than waste two hours going to a B&B. Maybe if I was with a special lady friend.
July 17, 20187 yr Probably hitting both for a night later this year. Brussels for the Christmas market, Amsterdam for, well... it’s Amsterdam. Time will be tight though, so maybe end up skipping Amsterdam. I dunno yet. Plenty of time to decide.
July 17, 20187 yr Don't skip Amsterdam. Do both. Market in Brussels is very nice. Walk, drink some hot wine, drink some more hot wine. Eat a waffle. Drink a shit ton more hot wine.
July 17, 20187 yr It’s a time thing for me. 2 nights available, and 3 options. Brussels for sure, for their Christmas market. Then it’s between Manchester (another excellent Christmas market) or Amsterdam.

July 19, 20187 yr There is one must you should do in Brussels if you are into beer. That is go to Cantillon Brewery. Beer nerds will hate you for going there without them. Only Lambic, Gueuze, and Kriek so you need to be into that stuff or at least willing to try.

You can also get cheap as hell Delirium by the Grand Palace and a great beer store called Beer Palace close by.
July 19, 20187 yr De Halve Maan brewery in Bruges is also good if you make it over there. There's a pretty good cafe as well.

July 19, 20187 yr Dulle Griet in Ghent also had it and just about everything else I wanted to try. Cash only. You had to put a shoe in the basket as collateral to get one of the big Kwak yard glasses. Edited July 19, 20187 yr by WBT pictures from interwebz, not mine
July 25, 20187 yr Author Anyone want to recommend a neighborhood in Amsterdam to stay? I was pretty settled on Jordaan. But read about Rembrantplein being more nightlife. At this point Ill be solo.

I just booked Mr. Jordaan in the Jordaan neighborhood. Great reviews. I'm just locking this on it but will keep hunting for a better deal as the date gets closer.
