Even if she loses tomorrow, I really hope Zeynalova chooses to play singles tomorrow. We need her to show some Ukrainian Strong Texas Fight.

Sabina is in the lineups for now

Disappointing but not surprising OKST swept us today. Just like last season, we have about a 50/50 shot of getting a top 8 seed in the NCAAs. If it weren't for the season opening loss to UCLA where we defaulted two singles lines, we would safely be a top 8 seed.

Currently 9th seed. Need UCLA to do well in the Pac12 tournie to jump Georgia. Texas will then be seeded ahead of the Dawgs and would potentially host the super Regionals against Georgia

UCLA just lost to Cal

Texas will have to hit the road if they get past the first two rounds

If we get the 9 seed, and somehow pull off the road upset against the 8 seed, we'll most likely face #1 OKST in the elite 8....in Stillwater. Even with Zeynalova we are not a title threat this year.

Looking to next year, Maya Joint is still firmly committed to Texas and I could see the freshman playing line 1 singles from the jump similar to how we had Stearns line 1 most of her freshman year in 2021. Next year we'll be younger but possibly more talented top to bottom.

I'm very much looking forward to next year with all the talent that team will have. Looking at the latest rankings for the incoming recruits, Texas has 3 recruits of the top 5 signed! That's impressive! Texas could and probably will play 4 Freshmen in their top 6 lineup next year just like 3 and 4 yrs ago.

Texas is the 9 seed as expected. Harvard in the first round, Illinois or Georgia Tech in round 2, and then we hit the road to face UCLA in Los Angeles in round 3 in a season opening rematch. Winner faces @ #1 OKST in Stillwater in the elite 8.

heres the embed. Quick notes:

Sabina has been dealing with a back injury these past couple months and plans to play this weekend. We shall see.

He alluded to a freshman player on the team that was ruled academically ineligible this season, so Must be CKP.

Maya just beat Liv Hovde. They're the same high school class and Hovde has always been the number one recruit. Hovde won the 2022 Wimbledon juniors and then turned pro.

At this rate with no points to defend, Maya is on the cusp of making qualifying list for Wimbledon and should be on the list once the US Open rolls around. Tennis Australia will also be heavily invested and give her a main draw wildcard in 2025.

Can't see Maya doing all four years of college tennis. May pull a Schnaider- attend one semester and then turn pro. She has sounded really excited when talking about enrolling at UT next year.

Maya and Lulu Sun have been playing in the same ITF tournaments over the past few weeks, and I’m sure Lulu has been a good advocate for Texas in the locker room. Maya being a one and done just like Lulu has been my expectation. Just like Maya switched her nationality from USA to Australia, Lulu recently changed hers from Switzerland to New Zealand. Oceania is very trendy right now, apparently

Playing indoors today versus Havahd

Looking for any updates and the live stats link has stopped after 2 games into doubles.

They only played a couple games before the rain started. They're moving the match to the indoor center which is a 30-45 minute drive depending on traffic. Play scheduled to resume at 3pm

Gotcha, thanks.

Texas takes the doubles point over Harvard. 1-0 Texas headed into singles.

In pro tennis news, incoming Longhorn Maya Joint will play against former Longhorn Lulu Sun in a 100K final in Florida tomorrow.

What is interesting about Lulu's transfer is the upcoming Olympics. Erin Routiffe has a top 10 doubles ranking which guarantees her an entry into the Olympics IF there's someone from your some nation in the top 300 in either singles or doubles. This was likely going to be Paige Hourigan (career high 200) but Hourigan took all of 2022 off for injury and is now rebuilding her ranking. Hourigan is close (ranking is now somewhere in the 400s) and if she doesn't make it, Lulu is almost virtually guaranteed to be an Olympian this summer.

Won the doubles point

Pretty much going to come down to #6 singles, as Rapolu is getting demolished in her third set. Vivian just forced a third set at #6

3-2 Texas

Match tied 3-3 with Vivian up 3-0 at #6

3-3 overall score with Rapolu losing. All comes down to Ovrootsky on line 6. Her opponent is currently getting treated for an injury, but it could be a momentum stall tactic because she’s down 0-3

I don't think it is. She was limping big time last set.

3 double faults but I think the crowd is also getting to her.

This girl is just giving points away with double faults.

Texas wins.

Huge for the Directors Cup because that would have cost us some points.

Even though she lost and looked rusty, its good that Zeynalova was finally able to get a singles match under her belt. She still hasn't played both singles and doubles in the same match since mid-season but she's finally making some progress. This season began with a loss against UCLA in Westwood, and hopefully we can pull off a significant upset to prevent the season from ending against UCLA in Westwood

1️⃣ #30 Zeynalova (UT) 🆚 #38 Lee (GT)

2️⃣ #20 Rapolu (UT) 🆚 Bilchev (GT)

3️⃣ #85 Chavatipon (UT) 🆚 Cruz (GT)

4️⃣ #42 Sasnouskaya (UT) 🆚 Nicholson (GT)

5️⃣ #122 Pachkaleva (UT) 🆚 Sharabura (GT)

6️⃣ Ovrootsky (UT) 🆚 Roach (GT)

Court 2 was obviously an upset.

AC Butsch was just on the Cracked Racquet Podcast

Apparently Texas only had 3 healthy players for the UCLA season opener as Vivian also was vomiting but wanted to play.

I have it on good authority the team will not be revisiting the LA restaurant they ate at last time. Also, good on Vivian for toughing it out that day, she gains my respect for that
